Thank god at last the grafics will be massivly improved... exactly what the game needed. A focus on the grafics. Yeah. Seriously Bioware. That's the exact way to win back all whose which you scared away with DAII. :roll:

Why concentrating on a deeper story, more believable characters, a more believable world, less insta gratification and all the other shit which might make the game more interesting again?

After reading this I'm happy to confess that I neither paid a penny for DA:O nor DAII. DA:O was a christmas gift of my father who just read all the reviews about how DA:O is a true RPG and shit. DAII I never ever played, touched or looked at.

Yeah, to me, what was most incredible about DA2 is that it showed just how much budget Bioware had to spend on VO versus pretty much everything else. They obviously had a lot of already-paid-for talent laying around because of TOR.
Without numbers it's hard to say what the budget breakdown was. Of DA2's ~180 person team, artists took up the biggest proportion (about a third), as they usually do.


In Thompson's view, companion series Mass Effect is "the perfect example of a game that transcends its technology", using skilled visual design to hide or make a point of the limitations of the engine.

This is what Bioware actually believes.

I'd actually agree that artistically, Mass Effect looks much better than Dragon Age. It was rather jarring going from ME2 to DA:O, considering they were supposed to be roughly contemporary with each other, and DA:O looks like it came out of a monkey's ass. This isn't a matter of different types of game, either, there's plenty of old 2D RPGs that look much better than the DA series.

Main problem with DAO are the hellish faces. DA 2 sort of fixed that except everyone still looks like they came out of the cloning vats. Plus elves turned into Avaturds.

The first one? Not really.

ME2 came out a few months after DA:O, uses two companions instead of three (memory saved), uses a different engine, and was in development for a much shorter period of time (so they started with a newer techbase instead of the Infinity Engine/Aurora with some things replaced and more stuff added). They both have bad art direction, ME's is ~somewhat~ less eye gouging and has better graphix because of things I just mentioned.

This isn't a matter of different types of game, either, there's plenty of old 2D RPGs that look much better than the DA series.
"2D game looks better than 3D game" You don't say.

I actually liked Dragon Age 2's art style. One of the few things that fucking phoned in shit did right, making it look unique. I know you guys love your standard fantasy brown but it's nice to see something different once in a while.

That said a new look with new hardware would suit me fine. The important thing is they remember to try this time.

I didn't like the redesign of the Quanari, though. Thought they seemed sufficiently alien-looking enough in Origins without resorting to turning them into fucking horned demons. Now they just look stupid.

Been playing through Origins again recently, and it's a pretty thoroughly average WRPG, albeit on the easy side more often than not once you figure out just how overpowered mages are. Gotta say that the game's better as a proof of concept, though. Found myself getting more and more interested at my companions telling me about how amazing or bizarre their homelands are and how they are so much better than the stock fantasy middle ages setting that I'm stuck in. Like if all the NPC's in Oblivion spent all of their idle time talking about how interesting Morrowind is while I'm stuck in generic fantasy woodlands killing bears and giant rats.

Unique art style? It's pretty much identical to the illustration style in D&D 3rd edition.

DA2 was full of gray, tan, and other desaturated colors. A lot of the clothing and armor options were stupid and unappealing, though unique pc and companion armor was an improvement over the first one, where it was difficult to tell your people from the enemies in some situations. Claiming it's a desire for "standard fantasy brown" is odd when Witcher 1/2 is what's considered good fantasy art in a 3D game on these forums.

They're actually not any dumber than most comics being published right now. I guess it helps that Gaider's only providing the story outline with Freed writing the actual script.

Haters are really here spewing their 3rd class unfiltered hate around here. Dragon Age 2 was a solid entry in strategical Role Playing Action games, like Devil May Cry 3. Just imagine what would happen if Dragon Age series would stuck in it's slow (and frankly boring) gameplay from the first game? Any video game series needs to evolve. Just look at how Resident Evil 4 did it. It gracefully place Survival Horror back in the video game industry.

Personally, I would've suggested for the to look at Devil May Cry reboot, as their inspiration for how the new Dragon Age should be. I want a satisfaction, with finishing moves, combo's, action points, and what I want is more.

The structure of the game would need to be more mission based, but with a huge hub outside of missions, where you can pursue side quests. Open world video games are too much unfocused, and they need to please proud modern gamers like myself, or video game companies can only make a dead end for themselves, because I believe that the recent hardcore gamer renaissance, with such masochistic video games like Dark Souls is only a bubble, ready to burst, and the end result would be a Pearl Harbor. Don't believe the hype. I can tell, that these hardcore gamers are on some company payroll's, just because to set a new and unwelcome trend.

And since Bioware are storytelling masters, without a doubt, Dragon Age 3 will be another winner.

Are you implying The Witcher is colorful? TW2 has some vibrant areas I will grant you but overall both games are standard fantasy brown. DA2 has stylized characters and an animated look, something I found truly different and enjoyable.

Though in the end it means fuck all unless the game is good.
