That never gives you confidence, does it?

"Well, we sucked too bad to make good games in the past, but now we've miraculously changed! Honest!"
Isn't that precisely what everyone on the codex bet on with wasteland 2 and inexile, considering their trackrecord? Nobody shall accuse the codex of being consistent.

Yeah, there's a reason I'm not particularly excited about Wasteland 2, the screenshot just doesn't look like something I'd enjoy. It's why I'm leery of Torment 2, too, until I see a screenshot that looks like PE.

Not sure how that's relevant to slavery, but a week-long paid LARP with healthy, middle-class, white American volunteers? I had less fun at a summer camp when I was a kid.
Normal people turned into prisoners becoming meek and subservient, normal people given authority becoming brutes.

Demoralization is effective as a short-term solution to an immediate problem, but:
1) In a society where slaves are the main work force, it just isn't economically viable, as productivity plummets.
2) Being born and raised in certain conditions makes them the norm. A public portrayal of said conditions in negative light doesn't serve to demoralize - they've already had their whole life to adjust - it only serves to breed the idea that it isn't the norm. But eh, how bad could that be?
A lot of people don't consider the long-term when making decisions.
It wasn't until a massive slave revolt circa 25 Ancient that the City of Chains came to be known as Kirkwall when a popular elven slave named Radun was assassinated by wary magisters for his influence, which led to violent retributions, such as the sacking of Hightown and the expulsion of Tevinter leaders (by means of hanging).

Actually, hell, I'll go on. We've certainly got memorials expressing our regret for the near-genocide of the aboriginies and the mass programs of removing aboriginal kids from their parents over here in Australia. I've seen equivalent memorials in New Zealand concerning how the British broke their treaties with the Maories after the Maories fought them to a draw (awesome historical military campaign btw - to my knowledge they were the only indigenous population to hold their own against a rifle-armed colonial power without having guns themselves, and they didn't even have a significant numbers advantage).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka Though they had the numbers and the Europeans in South Africa were scared shitless. I'm coincidentally watching the TV series atm.
Sorry for this off-topic interlude.

Dragon Age III: Inquisition is shaping up to be a visual feast thanks to the new Frostbite 2 engine, according to BioWare's Neil Thompson.

Speaking to OXM, Thompson revealed that the game's artists have been left disappointed in the past over how their visions were realised using BioWare's own Eclipse engine, but were now feeling very positive.

The Dragon Age artists were always slightly disappointed at how their work was visualised in the final product with Eclipse, but with Frostbite, they've just done some amazing stuff.

"Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 were both done using BioWare's own Eclipse engine, and it was starting to creak a little bit when Dragon Age 2 came out," Thompson admitted. "Inquisition is being done on the Frostbite 2 engine and it is an astonishingly powerful engine."

He continued, "The Dragon Age artists were always slightly disappointed at how their work was visualised in the final product with Eclipse, but with Frostbite, they've just done some amazing stuff.

"There was a pre-production period where almost on a weekly basis I'd be sitting in the environment reviews and being blown away by what was coming out - it looks stunningly beautiful. So I think when we do start releasing screenshots, people won't be disappointed."

He concluded by saying that the team were trying something different to make the game stand out from the "subdued colour palette" of other fantasy games, pondering "Can you make fantasy beautiful in a different way? We think we have something special for Dragon Age III: Inquisition."

Seeing as Dragon Age II came under heavy fire for its reuse of environments and textures, supposedly in a bid to cram more content into the game, we're pretty sure this is a good move.

Not much is known about the next entry in the Dragon Age franchise, though it's possible we've already been shown one screenshot. It's also all but confirmed that the game will be heading to next-gen consoles and targeting a 2014 release.

:hmmm:

Can you indeed? Truly, Bioware will SHOCK and AWE us with a MAJESTIC work of ART nexxxt year.

Also, regarding the 'subdued colored palette'...I take it they haven't played Oblivion aka Bloomivion? Pete Hines is super disappoint.

yes plz

Christ is their PR cheap and repetitive.

"Game X is our super awesome masterpiece that is perfect in every way and is exactly what we wanted!"
[A year or two later]
"Okay, so Game X was really flawed and it didn't come out like we actually wanted, but Game Y is seriously perfect and is exactly what we had envisioned!"
[A year or two later again]
"So, we can admit it, Game Y wasn't perfect, it had its flaws but trust us -- this time, Game Z is truly perfect!"

Sure, this isn't unique to BioWare, but it's always seemed to be their go to way to hype up their game to me.

Your ignore list.
Gotta love how people comment on sites these days:

I just want moar DA:O!!!
Don't get me wrong, I think DA2 was good though.

I hated DA2! FUCK YOU BIOWARE!
Don't get me wrong, I think DA2 wasn't a bad game, I just expected something else.

I don't give a shit about the DA series anymore. Bioware killed the franchise with DA2.
Now don't get me wrong, DA2 was a good game, but I just couldn't enjoy it.

Spineless faggots.

And yet Bioware devs earlier said this:

It will be too expensive for next-gen titles to boast substantial graphical improvements like we've seen with previous console generations, according to BioWare art and animation director Neil Thompson.

The PS4 and Xbox 720 will certainly show vast improvements to the current generation, but Neil Thompson believes the difference won't be as obvious as it has been between previous generations.

Speaking to Official Xbox Magazine UK, Thompson believes that while the next-gen consoles will show marked improvements, the industry can't afford to "get itself into a corner where it becomes economically unviable to make a game."

"The last technology iteration caught folks by surprise - especially the number of people you needed and the skillset jump that was required to do the work that people expected," Thompson said.

It was expected that with the last generation there was "going to be a ten times improvement over the previous generation."

This time, Thompson believes the leap won't be as noticeable.

"For the next generation there will be a big leap, but it won't be as obvious. People will do things in a cleverer fashion...they'll be better prepared, shall we say - but we can't see a ten-fold team increase again as the budgets would just be ridiculous. You'd have to sell 20-30 million copies

I'm getting mixed signals from you, Bioware.

I'm pretty sure this was already posted in one of the other DA3 info threads (considering it's from January) and does not deserve its own, peace.

So stunningly beautiful that they didn't even need to show any screenshots/videos.
I'll trust them more when i hear the same words from someone who is not on Bioware's paycheck.

I lost all interest in the series after DA2 anyway.

Now don't get me wrong, I didn't think Origins was a masterpiece either. :smug:

As yes plz said, this stuff is always hilarious. "Never mind that shit we made before, THIS is the good stuff" on repeat for every project. Where was the designer disappointment when selling DA2?

I know it's capitalism 101 but it still grates on me how obvious it all is. If you're gonna bullshit me at least try to be good at it.

This is going to be delicious. BSN comparison threads always deliver.
Sometimes it delivers the other way.

Puttin' those cinematic animators to work, fine priorities.
I think I've just been trolled. People think Bioware's facial animations are good?
No sir, tis I who's been trolled. Why am I looking at a profile? Why is it delicious? I thought I was going to be reading some surefire stupidity.

Compared to CD Projekt's and a lot of other games? Yes. Those screens speak for themselves.
