I can't say I expect this to last once the sentimentality sets in and people get feels over whatever is in the finale, but for this brief moment, enjoy this profoundly weird time warp where this site and the Dragon Age subreddit are in a surprising degree of agreement (without the, you know, whole Baphomet thing). Initial reactions are absolutely roasting the game:

Screenshot-2024-11-02-014832.png

Just scrolling through, there are copious comparisons to Mass Effect Andromeda, praise of Skillup for actually being brave enough to say it, and an overall sense that companions are annoying af.

Again, I expect that to change over time as time goes on, sunk cost fallacy sets in, relative normies leave and die-hards take over, but for this one moment in time .... oh sweet god, glorious.

A cathartic moment. All it took was that sudden feeling that it's ok to be angry and dissatisfied if other redditors are too.

A redditor has to walk on eggshells so the jannies don't ban her and swear she's not white and not a conservative to simply give her opinion about the game.
Let me start by saying that I am NOT trying to dissuade anybody from playing this game. I'm a WoC married to a WoC. I am not a member of any arbitrary conservative police force.

I contacted steam support and they told me the community hub is moderated by the developers (that's actually a thing?),
Yes that's how it works for every game, do you expect steam to have a moderator for every game on steam? There is a reason valve has one of the highest returns per employee, they don't have a lot of them.

I guess it makes sense just didn't think about it.

BTW i forgot to mention the funniest part. There was no reason for the ban in the message i recieved, only an empty check box. So the troon moderating the forum doesn't even know how to use the system they are in charge with or couldn't even think of a reason.

I do appreciate how they're being honest about this being Identity Politics: the Game.

Developers used to really shy away from that and pretend they weren't talentless corporate nepotism hires, but I guess we've moved past that.

In Bulgarian for example(and probably most slavic languages) gender and sex are one word and the sorosoids need to use loanwords for that and it sounds retarded.
Really? In Serbo-Croat it actually fits very neatly. Gender afaik originates in linguistics and was imported into other disciplines from there so I'm surprised that there's no word in Bulgarian for gendered language especially since all Slavic languages are gendered.

some of the retards get real scared of stepping out of line because of muh scary downvotes and negative karma.
You also get literally permabanned for thoughtcrime on there. Some fat smelly tranny with mod powers doesn't like your post: banned from that subreddit forever lul.

That's why the correct thing to do is to delete your reddit account and never visit that cesspool.

Some more thoughts, I have completed the initial combat section finishing with a little boss to kill and then I had a little choice to make regarding whether to support Varric or challenge him.

The combat is kind of boring, it's very hack and slash. At least it seems to be reasonably challenging since I put it on the hardest difficulty. I mean, it's not actually challenging, but enemies are reasonably aggressive so there is at least the possibility of dying. The boss was OK. There is this parry mechanic using your shield and its somewhat interesting I suppose. I have only the first warrior skill right now and it's pretty cool, it's like the flying kick from Dying Light. You don't have regenerating health but you have 3 potions that get resupplied once every time you smash these pots that are littered about the level. Enemies just pop in to combat in a way that doesn't make much sense and feels very 'gamey'. There is very little attempt to preserve immersion. There was a path that was blocked due to it being used later in the level I guess, and when I approached the forcefield a little text appeared saying PATH INACCESSIBLE or something like that. Great stuff Bioware.

The decision with Varric seemed a little dumb, it was a coin toss whether to support him or not and then one of the companions (Harding) disapproves while the other (Neve) approves. Like, why? Makes no sense, just seems like a meaningless thing to add in approval there.

Obviously both of the initial companions are dumb as fuck so I'm just hoping to ditch them as soon as possible.

The graphics are quite good I guess. Moreover the presentation is good, but the colour palette is obnoxiously garish.

eople talk about you as friends and all I can think is ".... I just met you people?" Your dude says "Well, we have to do something, because no one will!" (direct quote) My dude is a grey warden, I know that whatsapp ran a little slower back then but maybe put a word to your buddies? I could go on.
Do please go on, I'd like more examples of this game's failings in the writing department.

That's why our boy in the review says "feels." He knows something is wrong, he's just lacking that little critical nub to get past the presentation and grasp that the core is profoundly hollow.
Well the issue I have is that the user lists more negatives than positives but still recommends it. I understand not being able to articulate yourself when it comes to critique. Not everyone is able to articulate themselves in a manner that befits proper dialogue especially on the merits of whether or not a product is good enough to recommend. Some people are only limited in the mental facilitates that the good Lord has blessed them with. However, when you list more negatives than positive, well, I call suspect.
Okay, this is probably going to come out in batches because you can't ask a poor soul to take on too much of this at once. Spoilers I guess but I feel like I should get paid for those.

So obviously you have to, like, go around and pick up rando companions because kiddies love the Avengers. You're sent after ... I dunno, some guy, I kinda spaced on the details, but he works for a mafia organization so cartoonishly Italian I keep forgetting that woke only applies to certain groups. His grandmother - because Italians and mobsters revere their family heads, right? - sends you to break him out of jail, which is underwater because why not. You free him but - oh wait, you can't leave yet because he has a contract to kill a guy who just so happens to be in the same prison, I guess because art assets ain't free. Not only is he in the same prison, but he's some weirdo bufffed out mage because you gotta have a boss fight, which is as piss easy as everything else.

So you get the beloved grandson back and it turns out that while you were gone some other mafia group broke in and murdered the dude's grandmother. He has literally zero reaction to this. None. You can see for yourself:

https://youtu.be/Tr8h2BzedNI?t=13786

"Welp, my beloved grandma who sent these people to have me freed from underwater fantasy jail is dead? Better get back to work, then."

Oh, but wait, there's more! Because he can't just be a hitman, he has to have a wacky characteristic!

There's a wacky demon spirit that lives inside of him that makes off the wall remarks. You, the player, can see him, but nobody else can.

The moment this popped up I stared at the screen thinking "wait ... are they for real doing a fucking Great Gazoo?" You'd be forgiven for not understanding that reference - when the Flintstones was on the decline, they threw in a wacky space alien that only Fred can see in a flailing attempts to juice declining ratings. It was a reference people used for "jumping the shark" before that phrase caught on, and such an infamous example of hack writing The Simpsons even made fun of it - https://youtu.be/OpFFAd9_DSA?t=65

So yeah.

I suspect a lot of languages have it, but no one realizes that the word can be used for people, instead of just linguistically. For example, in Lithuanian, the linguistic gender is called "giminė" - which directly translates to something like kindred, tribe, family, race. I am although surprised now, since I just google translated and one of the translations for giminė is gender, which I would never ever ever associate with the word.

I don't even know that we have these pronouns in robmanian. I did a google and all I could find was an article about some fag romanian forum where some fags wrote how they want to be called. In robmanian words are either male, female as per their suffix. And they want to change the suffix to X. As in, like Melon Musk did with his blue dildo.

So instead of "autor" (male writer) or "autoare" (female writer) they want to say "autorX"

So many of the 'recommend' reviews on Steam are something like:
"Yeah this game does have problems X,Y,Z and I didn't like A,B,C, and yeah the writing is bad and juvenile but it's a good game, really! Maybe not a good Dragon Age game but it's good, sort of! If you're not me you will enjoy it, probably!"
