The game has a lot more replay value than it appears at first glance. The number of solutions to the grimoire quest alone is pretty crazy.
The Dragon's Dogma wiki divides the game into seven stages, and has a separate page for each one, so you can start with Stage 1 and avoid spoiling yourself too much in advance while picking up any side quests you missed in your first playthrough. As for the billboard quests, there isn't any point in taking any of the escort quests unless you want the specific quest reward (e.g. Sir Berne offers the Gryphic Victory, the best weapon for a warrior prior to the final stage of the game or Bitterblack Isle), but the quests to kill x number of monsters of a certain type mostly take care of themselves if you accept them as soon as possible.Just some more reasons for me to play again sometime. I might try to do it with a walkthrough the 2nd time around just so I can see everything.
If you don't appreciate the combat of Dragon's Dogma, then you aren't going to enjoy the game, since it is very much combat-focused. I think that for action-based combat in an RPG, Dragon's Dogma is rivalled only by the Souls games, but Dragon's Dogma is more RPG-like in that it has less emphasis on the player's skills and has a party of 4 characters providing synergy. Combat is satisfyingly tactile in a manner that's rare even among action games; you can be knocked down or held by enemies but also grip smaller enemies in turn, be borne aloft by harpy-like creatures, set enemies on fire, etc. It particularly excels with the larger monsters (cyclopes, ogres, griffins, hydras, chimeras, and more), where teamwork is invaluable in defeating them (and it's always fun to crawl up them, if you aren't playing a mage/sorcerer).I'm asking because I tried playing 3 times, (Mage, Mage, Strider), and each and every time lost interest around 4h in. Combat is OK, but worse than Dark Souls, Bloodborne or Nioh. Plot seems meh (oooh you are the chosen one), characters seem boring, voice acting is terrible, quests seem also boring (kill 10 rats, kill 10 goblins), etc. Is the only appeal of this game to just gain level and fight different kind of monsters? Or am I missing something here?
His biggest challenge while working at Capcom, though? It's not even turning around Devil May Cry 2 in a mere six months, it turns out.
"Dragon's Dogma!" he says. "That was a brand new series - a lot of other stuff I'd done was already established. It was one of the first real new things. And back then it still wasn't quite so common for Capcom to do a simultaneous worldwide release, plus we were doing all this new stuff with the pawn system."
To say Itsuno holds Dragon's Dogma dear would be something of an understatement. It's the game he's proudest of from his time at Capcom, and you can even see flashes of it in Devil May Cry 5 - new character V, with his ranged attacks and devious use of magic, can feel like a straight lift of a sorcerer from the 2012 RPG. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to imagine a Dragon's Dogma sequel sits somewhere in Itsuno's future.
"I've mentioned this before, but when we started Devil May Cry 5, I'd gone to the people up top and said let me make either Devil May Cry 5 or Dragon's Dogma 2," he says. "I thought Devil May Cry 5 would be the better choice right now, so did that. If I could, I'd love to make Dragon's Dogma 2 - it'd be awesome."

The story follows a man’s journey seeking revenge on a dragon who stole his heart. On his way, the man is brought back to life as an ‘Arisen’. An action adventure about a man challenged by demons who represent the seven deadly sins of humans. In a press release, Sublimation representative director Atsushi Koishikawa said, “Sublimation team has long dreamt of working on our own title. We have oftentimes worked with partner studios to create partial CGI portions within a given title, so we feel very fortunate to work with Netflix through this production line deal.
