One thing Dragon's Dogma, but no other game I'm aware of, did and doesn't get enough credit for is visors being raised in town and lowered outside of them. A few games remove helmets entirely in safe areas (or give an option to make them all invisible), but none do visor raise/lower.

From the little I've heard it sounds like RE Engine is going to be their main engine like MT Framework was before it, and that they were working on it to handle larger environments. This was stuff I heard before the Rise reveal too, so that work could have been going on long before Dragon's Dogma 2 started development given that game is coming next year and we've already seen stuff for it.

Panta Rhei sounds like it was a dead end for Capcom, and that RE Engine ended up winning out of the two.
Rise is switch game. Moreover from what i have seen it will be reusing a lot of old 3ds/psp. Hardly good looking game with much detail.

I'm not sure what your point is with it being a Switch game. If anything you'd think because it's a Switch game it'd also be using their older MT Framework engine, but it's not, it's using RE Engine. Yeah they made World in MT, but Rise is RE Engine. If their newest Monster Hunter game is in RE Engine, and this is almost certainly being made by a team that just came off DMC5 which was also RE Engine, I'm not really sure why you'd think this 2022 game is going back to MT Framework. Now if Rise was also MT Framework, yeah, sure, I'd guess that's the way they'd probably go with Dragon's Dogma 2, (especially since they're still getting a lot out of MT Framework with Monster Hunter World) but it's not.

It also sounds like Rise is coming to PC sometime later, at least the first round of the Capcom leak reveals said something about that.

The point i made is that MT Framework is engine which can handle big open worlds with much detail. RE engine at best was used on small scale games with "levels". And switch game doesn't push graphics at all so maybe MH switch "worlds" will be ok in RE engine levels.

Each engine has its own thing going on. Just because one engine output great graphics at great performance in one type of game it doesn't mean it could do the same in other type of game.

NuDoom games are marvels of performance but i highly doubt that would be true if those games would be open world. There is a reason why they hired Avalanche to do Rage 2 because their engine was ready made for open world games.

Case of Rage 1 was great example. Their megatexture tech was amazing and worked well in small games but when it come to open world games it shat itself.

i dreamt of dragons dogma 2 folks

Did Warriors have more than three skill slots?
Three is enough.

The Warrior class is so Gut's from Berserk it'd be interesting if the class got some range options, and the Helm Splitter move...which is something Guts does a lot in the manga. I mean Gut's is mainly known for that giant sword, but he also uses throwing daggers, a crossbow, and his literal hand cannon. So, give him a cannon. Just make it some impractical to reload during battles you'll really only get one shot with it.

Warrior has got to be getting the rage meter this go around.

The Warrior only having three slots sucks, at first, because you just want to be able to do more shit. But after a bit with the Warrior it doesn't really feel like you need more. Your normals almost feel like skills. That said, there's so much bitching about the Warrior only having three skills that almost feels like something they'll have to change. It would be kind of cool if the Warrior just smashed through everyone with the giant sword or warhammer, making playing as the Warrior look like some ultra violent Berserk fights. It wouldn't be a gameplay change, but it would be a nice aesthetic thing that may offset complaints.

Your point doesn't make any sense though. Yes, they used MT Framework for Monster Hunter World (and other games) with big open areas. But their newest Monstsr Hunter game, Monster Hunter Rise, which is on a less powerful console than even the PS4 and Xbox One, and which I think has even bigger more open areas than World did, is using RE Engine. You pointed to World as a likely reason a new Dragon's Dogma would probably still be using MT Framework, and if this was before we knew anything about Rise (regardless of how it looks) that'd be a good line of thinking, but they revealed a while back now that their newest Monster Hunter game is moving over to RE Engine like their other new big titles have. If they're doing a game with big open areas in the RE Engine, then you can't really point and say the engine probably can't do big open areas.

Yeah, Switch games don't push graphics because it's the Switch. The PC version (which is yet to be officially announced, but seems to be a thing according to the leaks) will likely look better. It's also a more stylized looking game than the other stuff we've seen on RE Engine; so while it doesn't look as good as something like DMC5, it is nice to know they're doing other visual styles with it, which up until Rise we hadn't really seen.

If DD2 is at least as good as the first, and there isn't Terraria 2, all other games that will be dead to me when it comes out.

Clearly it's RE Engine.

They can't make a better sequel without bringing back Grigori.
Why, Grigori was only in the game for about 5 minutes?

They don't really need to have the same story. It would be boring. Just create a new fantasy world with a different story. Doesn't have to be a dragon eats your heart and you need to kill it. Just keep the same class/combat system, some good quests, an open world with a variety of enemies and that's it.

I don't know if the game has been patched since my first playthrough (of which I didn't actually finished because endgame Everfall felt kinda boring to explore at the time, even though I finished BBI multiple times), but man the C&C and reactivity of this game is ruthless. I got 2 side quests cancelled because I carried on with the main quests. I vaguely remembered not losing any of those back then, but I also can't remember if I actually looked up the wiki or not.

Still, the game is fucking fun. My casul side screamed when I first failed the Cassardis side quest because I started the Hydra escort, but it has since calmed down after I failed another one after finishing the Everfall main quest.

Because Grigori was the reason I even made it through the main quest. I would have dropped this game because of all the open world running if it wasn't for that guy. I played through BBI once and never bothered with it again because the characters there are shit and the place has no personality.
I'm not interested in more roguelite dungeons and mmo fetch quests for DD2, I'm interested in more classical western fantasy copy pasted from D&D with improved action combat. And every Grigori segment was the epitome of that. Awesome character, great writing, 10/10 voice, memorable fight.

You don't need to repeat the story in order to bring Grigori back. It's already established that shit is a cycle and there are multiple worlds. Perfect excuse to reuse characters and put them in different situations. I'd like a game where you ally with Grigori instead of fighting him.

Dragon's Dogma has always included the element of quests eventually failing if you ignore them to press onward in the main questline; this is not particular to the PC port much less caused by a patch.

If the quest you just failed involves Quina and the Witchwood, you'll miss out on substantial, albeit optional, content related to the main quest. :M

They really did a great job with this character. He really had a strong presence, and his voice was phenomenal.

And this enhanced his importance. Every time he appeared on screen, he would be the center of attention, as if he was the star of the show.

But I agree that they should move on. Repeating the same character would just make him less important overall and way too predictable. Hopefully they'll be able to come up with a character as good as Grigori.

Wasn't the cut out content of DD exactly about the existence of multiple worlds/universes connected by the endless tower? I hope they roll with this idea and move the sequel to another world while keeping the gameplay formula and maybe aesthetics of the original

All of that was just concept, it was never cut because it was never implemented.

Also for anyone interested, Itsuno talks about the development and other stuff here (like the fact that he's a big fan of Sim games like SimCity and other sandbox games)

I'd think it would find it's way into Dragon's Dogma 2. The original idea for the tower stuff sounded a whole like what Itsuno ended up doing with the multiplayer aspect of Devil May Cry 5. That game had a tower too, although the multiplayer wasn't just confined to tower like it sounded it was going to be in this game.

Does he bring up SimCity too? I remember A-Train, but it's been a while since I've watched that video. If he wants to do something like that it seems like he'd have room to do so in Dragon's Dogma. It's funny, because this game feels like some level of control was meant to be there with the starting town, and how they talk about making the roads safer, and even that mine you clear out that gets a shop it in. Like, it wouldn't need to be super deep or anything, but I could easily see Dragon's Dogma where you own the mine and after clearing it out you're able to open it back up for work to collect money while also upgrading the passage to for greater use and rent out space for shops to come in and you can upgrade the roads to make them safer and shops to get better stuff.
