This may have already been asked and addressed, but can your main pawn be a hybrid class? Merry Meari, my main pawn is max vocation on warrior and mage as well as some sorcerer thrown in for good measure and I cannot seem to unlock mystic knight for her.

I know the assassin is main player only, but I thought the other hybrid classes were available for pawns.

btw, this game rules. Liberated the shadow fort last night.

AFAIK, they can't. I have only maxed Fighter and Warrior on my main so far, but I've yet to see a main pawn that isn't one of the 'main' six classes and the search features, OTOH, don't include the three mixed classes.

Which is a shame, because I would've loved to have me a Magick Archer.

pawns cannot be hybrids, as evidenced by the fact that you don't get to search for hybrid classes in the rift.
they prolly thought it would make the game easier than it already is.

Hybrid vocations are limited only to the player.

Hybrid pawns would've been cool. But everyone giving their main pawn the Assassin augment that turns you into a murder machine in the night would take all the fear out of getting caught in the dark. Seems like there could have been a better solution than locking three whole classes from pawns.

Ah well. I guess I will move Merry Meari back to mage or a sorcerer then.

I found assassin to not be as good as the ranger. The longbow is just amazing and the shortbow pales in comparison.

does night get more dangerous later on, because atm it's just a bit annoying 'cos you can't see shit and dangerous to escortees but that's p. much all.
hybrids on pawns would also be pretty weird since magic archer gets a skill that kills a pawn as activation price.

It gets dangerous if you walk into two ogres hanging out.

It gets dangerous if a Chimera attacks you at night.

btw, does anyone have any good tips for taking out ogres? I can take out cyclops almost by myself, but ogres are a nightmare. They shrug off damage and just pound the crap out of my party. We can take them down of course, but it is just a slug fest.

I also ran into the dragon again west of shadow fort. He possessed one of my pawns which almost killed me as I ran for the hills.

Fighting the cyclops on top of the battlements at the shadow fort was awesome. I never had so much fun getting launched into orbit.

haven't noticed any difference between chimeras at day or night... double jump+grab, 100 kisses the snake to death (took me a while to notice you can do 100 kisses while climbing), chimera falls and rolls over, 100 kisses on goat, grab onto lion's head, 100 kisses, dead chimera in hardly any time at all.

ogres aren't really hard either, just annoying to wear down (on that matter.. noticed one of my higher level hires spamming dagger attacks on their bellies constantly, maybe that's their weak spot)

yeah, shadow fort is pretty cool.. wonder when you get to return and go past the gate in the tunnel below it...

Shoot fire in the face of an Ogre. Keep doing so and they should either try to hide their faces with their hands in an almost fetal position or drop down completely. And keep shooting fire in their face, or they'll get pissed off.

Edit: And yeah, Chimeras are pretty weak. They seem to be rather low tier monsters. One Gicel seems to drop their HP bar by nearly 50%. Can't imagine what the damage High Gicel would do to them, but we'll see. One more rank in Sorcerer and I'll have that spell.

Well, none of those things kill me, but they are quite surprising.

Actually, the two ogres right next to each other in the Quarry killed me. I ended up just avoiding them, the quarters were too cramped for fighting two ogres at the same time (this is after the first ogre in there).

Has anyone else besides me run into THE dragon just flying around?

As far as ogres go, I've had the best luck jumping on their head and pounding away with fire-enchanted weapons. If you deal enough fire damage, they don't really have enough time to react to you being up there or they just frenzy and start running around. Either way, I can spend most of the battle up there on top of his head.

there's a small dragon south of shadow fort i am fighting right this instant, and pretty sure it's just a dragon, not the dragon given the size difference and the fact that it doesn't speak... or that my hires seem to have some experience fighting it.... haven't seen the big dragon since the intro, but i am still on wyrm hunt, even though i try to explore all of the map before continuing.

Quick question: I'm about to wrap up with the wyrm hunt and I'm finishing up all my quests. Do you think it's worthwhile completing the handful of escort quests before moving on with the story? Unless the rewards are extra amazing or the locations you bring them to are really neat, I'm thinking about just skipping those (and the whole "kill x crows" type quests).

none of the quests are really amazing, but you get to increase affinity which is good (merchants sell moar stuff based on affinity, for example, and max affinity romance changes to realationship in ng+ or something). crows are easy if you switch to magic archer and just visit the abbey twice using the multiple targets lockon shot.

also, dragon just spoke and tried to take control of one of my pawns, thanks for the heads up, anthony. an ice arrow to the heart seems to prevent it from finishing the hypnosis.. or whatever that was supposed to be.

fuck yeah, 22k xp for killing dragon, dragon forged trophy, and it only took all of my spring water, a whole night and most of a day and saw me nearly dead a couple of times, especially when it used to goddamn roar that kills all pawns instantly and then the goblins respawned.....

killing the dragon gives another upgrade step to some of the equip you used....

Guys... you know that pillar of ice spell?

YOU CAN JUMP ON THE PILLARS. Holy fucking shit.

So here I am, fighting a cockatrice (aka demonic turkey from hell). It's down to a tiny bit of health, and decides to fly away.

Got nothing.

My mage pawn casts high frigid, ice pillar juts out of the ground, I jump on it, it goes up again, and I ride the fucking thing all the way to the sky. I jumped, grabbed the cockatrice, and lopped its head off.

Bad.

Ass.

Was Griffith gay in the end? I never quite got that.
Yes, but only for Guts.

You can get them fairly early too, depending on if you can kill an Ogre. They are quite expensive for low levels, but the Guts armor is apparently pretty damn good. When upgraded it's even suitable for end game stuff, I hear.

Edit: I want to add that SuicideBunny was talking about affinity earlier, and how it affects the equipment you can buy from merchants. That's not the only thing that affects their stocks. You have to find idols around the world as these give stock to powerful new items as well. I'm not sure what you do with the idol when you find it, but I think you have to do idol specific quests. I haven't really looked into this much, so I'm not sure what exactly you have to do with them, but I do know that you need them to get merchants to sell better items.

He talked to me. After he killed me he said "You are not the vessel".

He also said "I am your master" when he mind controlled my Ranger Pawn into shooting me as I ran ran away.

Found some more cool stuff. Minor spoilers: I did a quest to hunt down a griffin. At the end of the quest, the dude who asked me to find a magic tome for him showed up to help... using the tome I gave him. Which was a forgery. Oops. Guy spent the whole battle channelling a fire spell that wouldn't do anything, and commented on how strange it was after the fight. Knowing what the real tome did, that fight would have been a cakewalk if he'd been spamming it the whole time.

Also, on the way to the griffin I fought some fucking golem thing. That was pretty badass, though a bunch of the things it dropped didn't go into my inventory somehow. Game needs a patch badly, between that and all those wonky quest/item descriptions.

Also, the sacrifice arrow skill does a fucking insane amount of damage. Took off about 2/3 of a cyclops' health in one shot. Can't wait to get my last vocation level and see if there's a higher version of it, though it's a shame it's dark elemental, not sure what that's even good against, doesn't seem like much so far. The burning arrow skill is also really fucking good, since large enemies like a cyclops can set the arrows off themselves, and they do a fuckton of damage.

Where are you guys finding this equipment?

I found a couple of pieces of Bronze equipment in the Water God temple (what do I do there btw, I got all 6 tablet pieces but was stuck after that).

But mostly everything else I have found was also purchasable.

Still looking for a better Longbow...

I mostly just enhance the crap out of everything.

Still, I would like some shiner gear.

max affinity on armor/weapon merchants to be able to buy better gear, explore the shit out of everything, and i do mean everything. every location has a fuckton of hidden stuff which requires double jump, levitate, or both. bluemoon tower (the tower of babel-like structure you can see to the north of the main city) has some neat not quite obvious stuff and before you reach it there is a cell complex which has cells that can be opened with skeleton keys with very nice drops in chests. other than that, advance story after maxing affinity to unlock new gear at merchants, revisit old locations, rinse and repeat.

He respawns. Not sure what's the rate, whether it's story based or time in-game based, but he definitely does.

He talked to me. After he killed me he said "You are not the vessel".

He also said "I am your master" when he mind controlled my Ranger Pawn into shooting me as I ran ran away.

Dunno why exactly he does that, but be assured that it's not -the- dragon.

Also, on the way to the griffin I fought some fucking golem thing. That was pretty badass, though a bunch of the things it dropped didn't go into my inventory somehow. Game needs a patch badly, between that and all those wonky quest/item descriptions.

Are you sure they weren't picked up by your pawns? Any of them can do it, especially if they've been instructed to pick up stuff (become Acquisitor). Crap that summoned pawns have picked up immediately transfers to the storage once you release them (which makes them perfect packmules for me, even with max-weight increasing Sinew on both me and my main pawn).

Suicidebunny's advice is good, just explore the shit out of every new location (and ones you revisit too, since chests become restocked at some unknown to me rate). The Bluemoon tower, for instance, houses Griffin armor (not Berserk Griffith's, but the monster Griffith). Heavy crap but good for protection. Just about every enterable location holds at least some chests with non-random equipment in it which can be of use (I liked getting the Steel Greatsword in the Shadow Fort, for instance, as the first time this happened to me. Later on, especially near end-game, you'll be getting so much stuff and so quickly you won't know what to do with it).

Also, post end-game spoilers hahaha:

Didn't know what the hell was up with the Ur-Dragon fight until I walked into it. Turns out that, when you're online, you share the progress on its health with other players. So I walked in expecting this ultimate, badass fight and it turns out he's been damaged 34 times before and he's at almost 0 health. Popped him a few times with arrows and he went down, netting me like 100k exp and the usual reward for the encounter: a shitload of wakestones and some of the best gear in the game.
