This looks like a game I would enjoy. I would like to avoid spoilers and build talk if I decide to play it. One question, can you use your shield to block? I noticed in a gameplay video that the character was dodging over and over when fighting even though he was carrying a shield.
Yes, in fact shield guys were a pain to me sometimes before I was OP because blocking in time blocked my special attacks which inflict bleed

The issue with shields is that they deplete stamina based on the damage they mitigated. So, you'll get stunned (your stamina reaches zero) whenever any high level enemy hits your block. Better than dying I suppose.

I've finally joined you brothers, about 3h into game now, mid to lvl 4. So far good, exploration is fun and combat is balanced as I have not gone too far away from starting camp. I went far north and found a cave with a certain cool weapon and beaten a monster there with throwing daggers and a sling :D

Yeah, this is actually a very cool game. Glad I found this thread. A bit disappointed this wasn't on the front page. Interest seems oddly low here.
Jewtron is too busy posting 300 Baldur's Gate 3 ambience videos, to care about putting actually good games on the front page.

Question for people that finished the game or got very far. If I do the quests and join the Remnants now, does that create any problems with Nemeton later or will I still be able to go there and join them as well?

Do you mean actually becoming part of the faction or just completing the quests to get in good standing?

It locks you out of some things like certain people refusing to barter with you, etc.

If you want to maximize quests, xp, etc. just do the quests to put you in good standing with the factions but don't join until you're completely ready

well quest says I need to join so to access the druids, also Nemeton seems to be far away and probably lots of high level enemies to kill to get there so I wanted to farm as much XP and gear from Remenants.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
It's over broskis. They've done and gone and nerfed caltrops.

I hate when they nerf stuff in single player games but that stuff was overpowered as hell even without the reuse.
Well, its cheap to craft and there are lots of resources if you explore right, so not that much of a problem.

I just saw the patch, I hope it doesn't mess with my progress and my saves keep working.
This game is a surprise to me, literally zero advertisement and I accidentally discovered it on steam while looking for games similar to the veilguard.
It's a great game, leaves space to the player to think about his or her moves, exploring the world, using maps, backtracking.
It is a great adventure.
I'm constantly worrying about progressing too fast the story of act 1 and missing out some caves with wolves I have left because I'm not strong enough yet to clear them.
Lack of armour really hurts in this game and the merchant in the town is too expensive, out of principle I refuse to hand him the coins.
Will have to find some other way of acquiring an armour without joining a faction or giving coins to some merchant.
This is what keeps me playing.
Definitely a great game and seeing posts in this thread back from 2021 shows that it had a long development cycle.
And the fact that they keep releasing patches shows how passionate they are about their game.
Definitely worth the 25 euros since I can get more than thirty hours of game from it, currently at 9 without having completed act 1 yet.

Don't be. You literally can't "miss out" on content in this game, save for one area becoming inaccessible at the very end of chapter 3, and for the Pit mines if you join Nemeton. There are also no changes to existing spawns, and new spawns in future chapters are nearly non-existent, and only happen along the roads (not a single instance of it happening in caves, etc.). I also did everything in act 1, and I think I did myself a disservice, as I then had to do the rest of the game in a dead world with no monsters save quest-related ones.

Tbh I was already self limiting with Crow's Feet like that, being able to just craft one and spam it infinitely was far too OP.

It's still OP after the patch, but a lot of consumables are, as long as you can't spam them every single encounter it's ok.

I picked this up and put a couple of hours into it. It's good and really captures the Gothic vibe. I really like how expressive the animations are. The ones for laughing and spitting on the ground always put a smile on my face.

Two things I do not like is lack of companions, there are quests where you get a temporary companion so there is AI for it and ranged weapons mostly being crap. Most monsters are big HP bags and ranged weapons have bad damage compared to how long aiming and reloading takes and how enemies swarm you. You are basically forced into melee playstyle. I try to open all battles with bow or sling and each time notice how little damage it does to monsters around Remnants even with having best bow in that area.

This kills all replayability of this game.

How do you kill the black Bird like creature that shoots 3 projectiles? Or am I just not supposed to kill it at lvl 8 with Remnant level weapons?!
It basically 3 shots my character.
I even tried to use my Magic Missile scrolls on it but even 200 damage missiles only do little damage to it..

You can kill anything at any level pretty much it just depends if you feel it's worth it to spend a bunch of expensive consumables on that specific enemy/area

Just like Gothic, you're probably expected to not kill it until late game, or cheese it with consumables.
