I feel the 2D looks good, moreso in motion than still screenshots. I never really gave much credence to its looks as being a major detractor. It is a bit disheartening to know that might be a reason to avoid. I figure if a game like Rimworld can succeed with the graphics it has, then any high quality game should be able to do the same.

How do you feel about Skalds art style? I do know that Skald was featured on the front page here numerous times. At this point, the lack of front page news about Drova feels more like a standoff.

Graphics is always 10000% going to be main attractor of a video game, and possibly decide entirely on its own how financially successful a game will be. There are games that look great but play like trash and insult your intelligence, and people will still slurp them down because that's just how it is.

The alternative is to build a seriously unique and extremely high-quality game, and even then it will only make up for a little in your deficient in graphics.

Rimworld is a great game made by probably a genius, in a tier of its own. You need to make games like Stardew Valley and Kenshi (both ugly imo) before you get to the stage where graphics don't matter.

Personally I find Skald's graphics hurtful to my eyes in a very literal sense, but that's not a fault of the art style (just too few pixels). As for why Drova's not mentioned in the news subforum, that's probably a question for the administration.

What's wrong with people sense of taste? Drova, Stardew Valley and Rimworld are good looking games.

Drova reminds me of Caves of Lore and Serpent in the Staglands a bit. I like the style, it doesn't feel too childish like the other ones you've mentioned. I can't stand Rimworld's characters.

I just did a 1 second long research and it appears that there actually is a news thread for Drova. Here's the link:

No, it's Infinitron 's trick, he posts news with old date so nobody actually sees the news but he can claim we had one. He already did it multiple times. He posted this one today.

So, does anyone know why Infinitron is particularly hostile to Drova of all games?

I mean the game being made by Germans and all might be a reason. In general nobody likes Krauts and Jews in particular might not be fans.

But still, an understandable enmity towards a nation should not hamper or obstruct the flow of information about a game, especially a good one such as this.

I don't know when it showed up, but it's there. Nothing can stop anybody from commenting it now. Anybody who cares about this news can post now. Doesn't matter if it's 4 weeks after the game's release.

Well if it did not appear on the front page it kind of lost its informative value.

Finished my second run on Iron mode. The secret ending it's actually the only proper ending for the game and it's also the good ending.

The game world is jam-packed with secrets. It's incredibile how much stuff I found in the second run.

What this little game manages to achieve is outstanding:

1. It's the first - original - Gothic-like game which actually feels like a Gothic game. I know Archolos is the other champion but Drova brings a new world to the table.
2. It proves that there is a starved market for Gothic-like games. People want to explore living worlds, people want the hero's journey and all that stuff.

This game is a gem. It's not as ground breaking as Underrail but it's pretty close.

Codexers need to be edgy and they don't like admitting they like any game since it opens them up for attacks from other edgelords.

The game is great and it is evident the devs get the design principles that made Gothic great - all they need is to polish their craft.

The game is alright. I don't get all the excitement though. I mean, it is new and good enough for sure. But since it's indie (not really as it turns out) as if it receives a pass on all accounts. Fuck that. Personally I got bored enough to drop this after 20h or so. I've had my fun for sure and I'm grateful but it was primarily the exploration and testing its limits. Then I realize I'm still in the first act and pretty much explored everything while the quests and the main sequence don't inspire me enough to continue. Abundance of stronk woman don't appeal to me either. The progression system is pretty limited. Idk guys, it's decent but not more than that. Oh and the art style is also far from being awesome.

1. Starts quest, dude tells me to talk to two arena fighters.
2. Talk to first fighter, dude tells me to pick up his food from nearby food wench and get his weapon.
3. Talk to food wench, asks me for 10 meat.

:nocountryforshitposters:

Yeah, I know there's a couple things that make the quest more interesting, but wtf. Fetch questing in 2024 should be a taboo.

You noticed that just there? Game is 80% fetch quests. It is one of the reasons why I gave it 8/10 instead of higher.

I made that chick which takes the player outside the tavern to attack her friend that will later team up with her to attack the player.
We kicked his ass and he just fell down on ther ground, then stood up like nothing happened and then they've just both attacked me.

You cannot beat god (read: the code).

It was funny as hell. I tried to loot that guy, but he stood up so fast. I think it might be possible.

I replayed Gothic I recently so it's fresh in my mind, and this game is 100% a love letter.

Which is great and all, except it also copied all the tedious quest structures from 20+ years ago.

I'm just going around killing things.

Edit: wait, is there no way to proceed faction states without doing things like going around and collecting pig iron? The arena quest I mentioned above has not progressed despite being days after the fight was supposed to have taken place.

You just spend points on midn attribute for magic, all runes for casting are either found or need to be bought. Thunderstorm rune is behind a hidden quest of sorts.
Even with full magic you'll have do some physical damage for faster focus regen.Though you can easly use caster armor and potions for harder fights.

Technically, yes, but you may not have a particularly great time as you'll be running around a lot not doing anything between casts. Magic also isn't available until late into Chapter 3. You can rush for this, but it's really more of an end-game progression path that allows you to really feel a lot stronger.

With enough points in Mind, and some +Base Focus jewelry, you can basically cast any spell once without needing to generate Focus, as you can reach >90 Base Focus. However, generating it back to cast another spell after, without hitting anything takes a while, and getting hit reduces your Focus. It's how I played the game, and there's some potions and food that can enhance your Focus regeneration, but it's probably best to supplement it with one of the physical weapons. That being said, it does very good damage.
