Not sure if you guys saw these :
Do not say I did not warn you. I was not kidding.
Oh god my eyes.

I gather this is the point of the thread but... why in the hell would they call it Ultima then? How ridiculous.

Because it has Lady British.

It must be incredibly demoralizing to be a dev on a game such as this and read the comments here. I saw Trent Oster comment on twitter about reading negative feedback and having it make him feel bad enough to quit working for the night on Baldur's Gate ENCHANTED EDITION. Even Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity have people trolling and bitching about the games. But that taxalot letter was pretty cool.
If it's true they read these forums then why do they keep on making the same mistakes over and over with their games? I just thought they were incredibly ignorant of old cRPGs and had no idea how to design good games, but they read these forums which has good discussion on different game designs and mechanics and they're still making shit RPGs with shallow mechanics. There really is no excuse then for their shit then.

You have never played an Ultima game before?

Because they are ONLY beholden to Shareholders. Not in making GOOD games, but ONLY focus on games that sell. And sell to may people. It's not Rocket Science.

It was a just a joke, and not a very good one :(

And yeah I've played an Ultima game before.

Please I don't believe for a minute that those old games wouldn't sell just as well today. Not CoD well mind you, but they could definitely do 3-5 million copies at least if they actually put in the effort to make a great game. For instance, I bet W2 and PE will do at least 3 million copies each as long as they're good. Judging from word of mouth and screenshots I bet Ultima Forever won't clear a million and if it does, it's just due to the name recognition and nothing else.

U4E is a F2P casual MMO. Nobody needs to "buy" it.

Didn't Ultima 4 already get a proper remake on the Sega Master System? From all that I could gather it's basically Ultima 4 with later Ultima graphics and sensibilities. It even comes everything in the box but the ankh. Too bad it had poor marketing in Europe and not very many copies made it to the USA.

Yeah I didn't really care for them, the same reason the Lazarus team didn't use NWN for the engine for their U5.

Well, let them see how 'ultima forever' does.

Wen it fails horribly, EA will just take that as a sign people just aren't interested in an Ultima. What EA fails to understand is we DO want a new Ultima. A new single player classic like Ultima. But then EA's marketing department will then make their demands for Cinematic Experience™, Romances, AKSHUN COMBAT! GRIM DARK, Multi-Player, etc.... (because that's what SELLS!) All the fucking shit that is wrong with EA.

It's best the series should just die. That or Gariott isn't bat shit crazy and his new Ultimate RPG will actually be good. But I am not going to hold my breath.

Garriott is probably already senile or lost too much oxygen in the space. Isn't his "ULTIMATE AR PEE GEE" basicly MMO but probably for Fecesbook?

IIRC yes, ULTIMATE RPG™ will be done with Zynga. That or I am confusing it with the current games they have with them. I have basically no interest in his game. Again I'll wait for more info on it, but I am not expecting much. I wish he would finally come back to his senses and realize no, we don't want a shit multi-player shitbook game. But that is what he keeps thinking everyone wants. And we don't.

Thank gawd for Kickstarter.

You guys shouldn't confuse it with Ultima just because the names are sounding similar. I'm pretty much convinced according what LB does nowadays Ultimate RPG will turn out to be a new dating network.
