Tonight I went to see Batman and they played the Elden Ring advert before the movie. Bizarre, I don't think I have seen a video game being advertised in cinema before. Looks like a cool game, should I check it out?

Your post makes me assume you never played a Fromsoft game before, so go play Dark Souls 1-3 first.

There is a reason those games spawned an entire genre and every journo makes retarded comparisons to them. It is THE defining games series of the past decade.

Replaying with a melee build and wow this is absolutely infuriating. Why does every random enemy have infinite stamina??
You really need to do some proper spacing in this game, sticking close to enemies is pain inducing (even the rats have infinite stamina, once they started attacking you they will keep going until you die if you don't dodge away).

Most of the time I engage with one of these : a sprinting attack, a jumping attack, or a weapon art that makes you move forward quickly (quickly enough that you hit the enemy before it engages you). That's for meleeing without STR, STR builds also have the options of : using guard counters (R2 after the enemy's last hit will deal massive stagger damage and make it likely you can critical them) and using the long reach of oversized weapons.

Later in the game, you'll also find weapon arts and unique weapons that can give range even to a pure physical build too.

Yeah. On my mage i was using moonveil katana instead of spells and it made everything very easy (it felt like cheating, doing 1500 damage at good range.) On this character I'm using a flail which has terrible range and it makes everything a nightmare. Seems like you really need to abuse jump attacks and weapon arts to play optimally.

This game still seems easy to me. I haven't used a single summon yet. I haven't even tried using summons. I just beat the lava dragon on my first try. In fact, I can't remember the last boss I didn't beat on my first try. I even beat Godrick on my first try (I thought he was supposed to be hard?).

Also, I haven't been using my special attacks either. Ever. I probably should start researching them.

I'm pure dex build, by the way. I've been using that one boss katana that does bleed dmg (can't recall the name, but it's curved). It's great for bosses, although, its wind up can be kind of slow. I sometimes switch it up with the claws.

Using a weapon with a slow wind-up animation is a pain.

The flails don't look like very good weapons to me. They all require either dex or a quality build, despite being a low reach weapon that begs for a massive greatshield type build. The only good flail imho is the INT scaling flail with that delayed explosion weapon art that deals a ton of damage.

Just one thing: When I finished the previous games - almost immediately - I started another run. Because of its size and stuttering I'm not looking forward to start another run too soon.
This is where I'm at as well. I think I'm approaching the end (then again I've been thinking that for the past couple of days so who knows how much I actually have left) and right now I'm not sure if I can see myself immediately starting over to replay the game like I've done with every previous Souls game. I imagine that while this game has a far better 'first playthrough' experience I'm not sure about how good the replay value would be for me. But for what it's worth I think that by the time I actually finish this game I'll have more hours clocked in than I in DS3 despite having done three or four playthroughs in that game. Really speaks volumes about the sheer amount of stuff there is to do in Elden Ring.

I even beat Godrick on my first try (I thought he was supposed to be hard?).

So did I, and i didn't even really try to win. My intention was just to check out his move set and then I just won easily.

Anyone who claims godrick is hard is either terrible at the game or attacked him at like level 14.

Moonveil is confirmed easy mode for the early-mid game. Congratulations lol.
It's also immensely powerful end game. I only started using it very, very late in the game after doing most of the game with the Uchigatana and it has the same moveset (weapon art included, just with the added range of magic) but better. Ended up respeccing my dex into INT and power stancing them together for that regular attack oomph.

The range of the attack of the weapon art made fights that other people complained about like the shitskin duo into a one try win. In melee range, it's also almost as effective as a STR weapon into staggering bosses too. Got 4 critical stagger hits on the end boss.

See if you can borrow or play a friend’s version. I’m a Souls-whore with hundreds of hours and years of play in the older games. But this one can be kind of boring and strangely underwhelming at times TBQH. Approach it with an open mind and try out a few builds.

The trick I've found with melee builds is to get used to rolling into enemy attacks rather than away from. The valiant gargoyle pair in Nokron I found that very noticeable with.

Seems like most boss movesets are specifically designed to punish attempts to dodge backwards.

Has anyone here managed to successfully solo Radahn?
This fight is a complete clusterfuck where it seems like your luck matters more than skill.

Game starts out as a strong 8/10, with its most underwhelming features being the usual culprits present in rest of the games of the souls franchise. After twenty hours or so, the rapid decline onset is upon you, when the "wonder" of the open world bares its true, ugly, generic and repetitive face. 85 hours in at around level 100 (primarily because I try to 100% each area without any guides), I view the game as 6.5/10 and I want it to end so I can be free of this torment.

Solo as in no multiplayer coop. I beat him by basically staying the fuck away from him, riding around and constantly resummoning the warriors (the summoning sign respawns after being dead for approx 20 seconds).

You can either be brave and occasionally ride in when he's distracted and take a swipe, or just focus entirely on staying alive and finding the summoning signs when they get randomly respawned on the battlefield.

Horse archers apparently have that fight super easy.

Radahn was the moment I was 95% close to just uninstalling, to be honest. Not because it's difficult but because I just wasn't feeling any fun anymore. After about 10 tries I memed on him with dragon rot though and that was about it, so I imagine solo is quite viable because it sticks permanently on him.

What you say is valid for bosses but for groups of mobs in the dungeons and the open world you could either dodge an infinite amount of time before you get a hit in or you get smart and sprint, jump attack and use close the gap type attacks instead of wasting your time with nonsense. Particularly in the latter levels the knights are all ds3 lothric knight style of infinite stamina.
