I'm exploring Mountaintops of Giants, starting to feel the burnout due to a repetiteveness, enemy reuse and hp bloat. Then I stumbled upon Stargazer ruins, where you can
help a ghostly jellyfish girl to find peace by using a spirit ash to summon her sister.
That was such a cute moment, it immediately warded off my burnout and gave me energy to continue trudging through.

Exploring Mountaintops of Giants, feeling the burnout.
That area is the biggest let-down in the entire game. It looks huge and beautiful on the map, and once you go there you get an empty wasteland with only recycled enemies and a short unique dungeon with very little to explore. It's a shame, because the area does look beautiful and has many interesting landmarks which are basically wasted. It feels like this game's Lost Izalith.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Another thing we need spell like Fall Control so instead of riding around I would just jump off the cliff I really think there are too many high ledges

  • Grants buff that removes damage and noise from fall

You're going to make these poor overworked japanese programmers cry with a suggestion like that. An army of them had to go around manually placing kill zones down on every single cliff on the entire map that you aren't intended to fall down from. This is why you and your horse will often die from obviously survivable falls no matter how much HP you have.

Haligtree is another beautiful area completely wasted with reused and reskinned enemies. Basically the whole big piece of land in the north is a big let down

I swear the last 15 hours have felt like playing some mmorpg

Lmao all the zombies on the shore in the Weeping Pennisula. What is this, the Ganges?
Probably some kind of target practice for large AOE effects. I've tried cutting down the biggest mob to see what happens, and nothing did. Haven't tried taking all of them out though.

There's more of those mobs roaming the lands though: if you take the road heading east into Caelid from Limgrave you'll run into a mob of a dozen or so of them before you reach the wagon with the Greaswrod.

I agree, but the encounter design and levels are miles beyond the capital people fap to whenever they reach it in this thread (except the sewers, the sewers are great, but I consider them a different area altogether), so it's one of the times where the lack of original enemies wasn't particularly noticed by me. Elphael is an extremely lethal area to traverse if you don't pay attention to your surroundings. And most of the more secret stuff you get to feels legitimately rewarding this time.

In a way I'd say the same thing about the north open world maps. Verticality is better used than in the rest of the open world, the mob density is lower but more lethal (I stumbled upon a few enemies that could dismount me from my horse in a single hit) which makes traversing the area with the horse more interesting, the zone where you can't see past 2 meters and need to rely on small lights to guide you is very atmospheric and overall I felt it was a less unnecessary addition to the game than Caelid.

It's sad it's located right to the end of the game when people are already fatigued with Elden Ring, because I value it much higher than Lyndell, much of the plateau and pretty much all of Caelid.

Elden Ring would be a better game if you excised Caelid off the game altogether and just threw the shardbearer fight somewhere else.

gurranq is maliketh right? Does anyone know if killing gurranq early has any effect on the maliketh fight?

Visited Fort Faroth. A small outpost located in the central Caelid. The chambers were infested with bats and rats and up on the barbican spectral soldiers materialized.

Does power stance really make that big of a difference with greatswords? I went and farmed a second Banished greatsword and I feel like I'm doing roughly the same amount of damage as I was two-handing a single sword. And now I'm fat rolling again because of the added weight. Not really seeing the benefit of using 2 Banished greatswords...

Also my swings are horizontal now. I liked the high slanted swings because it made killing airborne enemies easy.

Up on closer inspection it does do a fair amount more damage than two-handing a single sword (around 100 more). Still not sure if it's worth the fat rolling. Might have to try dumping a fuckload of points into endurance

Yes, two handing lets you wield the weapon with a multiplier of 1.5x of your strength, so the damage will increase significantly based on the Str scaling of the weapon, and will let you use a weapon that you technically don't have the strength for yet.

Space and time in Farrum Azula is convoluted. You're meeting Maliketh of a frozen past in Farum. Gurranq is the real, current state of Maliketh. They don't affect each other.

how did you get that info?
Remembrance of Dragonlord Placidusax
>The Dragonlord whose seat lies at the heart of the storm beyond
time
is said to have been Elden Lord in the age before the Erdtree.
Once his god was fled, the lord continued to await its return.

Old Lord's Talisman
>A legendary talisman depicting the ancient king whose seat lies at the heart of the storm beyond time.
>Extends the duration of sorceries and incantations. It is said that the ancient royal city of Farum Azula has been slowly crumbling since time immemorial.

Time holds no meaning in FA.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Those six Zamora warriors in the first Mountaintops ruins is the first straight up retarded encountered design in my book.

Who the fuck even stays and fights that shit instead of running past? What's the point of stacking six minibosses together like that? Bleh.

The idiotic bleed goblins are worse.

So people have been getting murdered and disappearing in my hold and apparently no body is noticing this except me. I found the cleric guy dead on the floor and the lady in black robes standing over him. Then she said some weird stuff and disappeared. No body else in the hold seems to care that there was a murder...

I love the bleed goblins! The backstab animation that flattens them on the ground always makes me laugh. They also squeak and squeal and have funny hats, so it's even more satisfying to kill them. The enemies in the Zamor Ruins, on the other hand... facing them all together when you reach that area for the first time is textbook masochism.

Everyone is fine with a giant pair of hairy fingers sitting in a throne room, so a murder probably won't attract anyone's interest.
