Another thing we need spell like Fall Control so instead of riding around I would just jump off the cliff I really think there are too many high ledges

I'm ashamed to admit I used shields in Demon's Souls and early Dark Souls back in the day. I didn't know any better back then. Once I learned the way of dual weild/two-handed combat, I could never go back. A true battle hardened warrior fights with both hands.

It's actually fun to use shields in this game. I personally dual wield greatshields and find the playstyle suprisingly fun and viable even though you can't powerstance them and this is me without using any ashes/summons (solo) and under heavy load/fat-rolling and around 40+ hours into the game.

With a pure STR build character, I am using the Spike Palisade Shield on my right hand to attack and Manor Tower Shield on the left to block/defend. Soon, after a few more levels I am going to use the Visage Shield, for its high attack power, as a secondary main.

Here is usually the game plan when fighting tough enemies or bosses:

1. Group/gank boss: put Shield Bash ash of war on my main 'weapon'. For solo, put Shield Crash instead. Barricade on my left/blocking shield for both scenarios.

2.1 Group/Gank boss: Two-hand my main, move around so that both bosses are in front of me, wait for one of them to attack, then use Shield Bash, then move around again or drink flask to replenish FP and repeat the steps until they die.

2.2 Solo boss: focus on using guard counter throughout the fight, activate barricade when running low on stamina, Bash them (Guard Counters) until they stagger, then after they are staggered, Two-hand my main then spam the Shield Crash ash of war on them until they bleed, go back to first step and repeat until boss is dead or when drinking blue flasks for FP.

I am nowhere near end game though, where the hardest bosses like Godskin duo and Malenia are fought. So this kind of shield bashing playstyle might not be tenable all the way through. But until then, I'll keep on playing this way.

It's built into the assassin's approach incantation. Being a sneaky magic assassin type is now a church thing instead of a spellblade thing.

For instance, fuck the flying enemies, especially the goddamned dragonflies. Whoever programmed those should be given a razorblade enema.

Dude, just stand still. If you move they won't stop flying around but you stay still they'll just stand in front of you after they have done their spazzy routine and you can just kill them easily.

That was me. ;) Anyway, that's true, if you want to spend that much time waiting for it and if it's within reach, etc. etc.

So, i killed another one of those guys with the sword and spell that sucks you in, the one in Limgrave around the beach that drops a spell, only this time i fought him on that semi island on the south. He is just a ball of blue light when you approach him and he is surrounded by guys.

I'm asking because this time he didn't drop anything and i'm wondering if i got bugged out of some item.

Also not sure if i messed up a quest or something. When i entered the area i met this blind girl that told me to send a letter to her father in a castle. I haven't gotten there yet, but i went back to her and she is dead.

Is that how it's supposed to happen? I heard you can mess up the quest if you kill a certain boss before talking to her father but i googled the boss in question and haven't gotten to him yet. I guess she just has to die like this?

Well, i always kill them because you can make the anti-poison stuff which is useful, all though i got about 44 heards right now so mostly i've been ignoring them unless their presence is a danger if i'm fighting a bigger mob.

Does power stance really make that big of a difference with greatswords? I went and farmed a second Banished greatsword and I feel like I'm doing roughly the same amount of damage as I was two-handing a single sword. And now I'm fat rolling again because of the added weight. Not really seeing the benefit of using 2 Banished greatswords...

Also my swings are horizontal now. I liked the high slanted swings because it made killing airborne enemies easy.

Up on closer inspection it does do a fair amount more damage than two-handing a single sword (around 100 more). Still not sure if it's worth the fat rolling. Might have to try dumping a fuckload of points into endurance

She's always going to die. Turns out sitting right next to a road full of undead and monsters is hazardous to the health.

To be fair I would have said the same after DS2

DS2 was made by a different team. Bloodborne was made by the same team that did DS1 and while i have no hard evidence for this i suspect Myazaki never wanted to make a Dark Souls sequel but the publisher probably made him an offer he couldn't refuse, so he assembled a different team overnight and slapped DS2 on them, which of course could have only lead to disaster since expecting an inexperienced team to tackle something that big was too much.

From what i understand the same team made Sekiro BTW so they eventually got their shit toghether. Meanwhile Myazaku keeps getting more and more jaded as he CLEARLY doesn't want to make those games but it's impossible to argue against the money. Already in DS3 you can sense a level of fatigue for the franchise coming from the dev team.

BTW guys, i'm SL12!

I'm still waiting for the game to get hard lmao.

forget it
go play Dark Souls 3 or something
there is a reason this game got mainstream success...

Can't wait for you to reach later areas with that tiny healthbar and discover gank squads and spam enemy groups who one-shot you from twice as much HP... :D

But I never got lucky on any of the other fucking bosses, because you can't get lucky against 360 degree 50-foot lingering AoE spam and cartwheels of death with hitboxes the size of a windmill's sails. :(

After Morgott the snow regions opened up. I am finally done with those two and now it's time to go to either Mohgwyn palace or the Haligtree.

Overall the snow zone was the most boring zone yet. Except for the wolf riders I think all the enemies are reskinned here? But they have a ton of HP and damage and it's just a hassle to fight through. I know they have to use reskins in a game as massive as this, but when the snowy land of the giants (that is said to be a forbidden land, cut off from the rest of the world) has the giant bears, the caravan convoy protected by soldiers, the flame themed soldiers/witches found in Liurnia/Altus, wolves, crystal snails, reuses minibosses as regular enemies, giant skeleton/dragonkin spirits that appear on top of you... Then it's maybe time to rethink if you really need another region? There was even a cave where they reused the eldritch abomination you fight as part of Rannis questline. I thought that was a fairly cool looking, unique fight. Now another one appears in a random cave only way harder. I am playing meele no shield and it really felt like this guy is designed to punish me hard. If you are close to him you sometimes literally cannot dodge some of his attacks. I just summoned my spirit and said fuck it.

The fire giant was a very epic boss though. I like the visual design of this game a lot. Finding the bloodied portal is cool. But as a whole these two zones felt really underwhelming. I never cared for all the reskins all that much, but here it is just too apparent and it really felt like the zone needed different, more themed enemies. Onwards to Mohgwyn palace I guess.

After 3 days of numerous hours and attempts and godly patience and perseverance, the dunes glow red with Radahn's demigod blood beneath the alien sky.
Due to the glass cannon char that I made, I fought him with base vigour at 10 I think, every attack a one hit kill and no summons (well I did summon an NPC at the start to rush Radahn and get him to switch to melee instead of having to deal with the arrow bullshit) after which the NPC dies leaving me to one vs one melee the general.
From a spectacle point of view this boss is incredible. The music, the visuals, the sound, the moves he pulls as the fight advances, the lore, all very impressive. And he looks intimidating on top of it. A boss that lives up to its lore. Overall fantastic, easily the best boss so far (again, from a presentation perspective), followed by Rennala, Ancestor Spirit, Margit and crucible knight (which I appreciate for their specific combat encounters).
The actual fight itself against Radahn though? Disease inducing, pure illness. Very, very RNG based and a specimen of the same design of almost every other boss fight: 180, 360, 720 degrees attacks, AoEs with explosions and or shockwaves, fast and delayed attacks because fuck you, jumping and flying all over the place, 7 hit combos, non stop attacks. Felt like I was fighting the same bosses from before but with different shapes and names.
Meh I expected this since we first saw gameplay as the design is from BB seeped into DkS3 and that was used as foundation for ER. Anyway I will go do some farming so I can put points into vigour because unless you do a level 1 run, more HP is absolutely essential no matter the "build" you're going for. Currently at 122 hours and exploring and still have 3 more demigods to go through plus I didn't fully explore the legacy dungeons from before although I was under the impression that I did but after some YouTube videos on the matter it turned out sometimes I just have no idea what I'm talking about.
The underground areas are absolutely incredibly good looking. They went all out with the design of the world both aesthetically and vertically. Will update more later.

What the fuck, man. What the fuck. I salute your effort, but why would you do this to yourself?

Getting at least to 30 Vigor should be a priority for any character. After that, one should try to get to 40 as soon as possible and then slowly dump points every once in a while to reach 60 by the endgame. If you're a coward like me, adding heavy armor, the Crimson Amber Medallion +2, the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, and Morgott's rune allows you to survive 2-3 hits against anything.

Doing anything with 10 Vigor in this game is an impressive feat.

Because I wanted a hybrid as well as a glass cannon. I literally put no points into vigour or endurance. I have a talisman that increases all my stats by 5 but I take more damage. That's the only HP increase I have. I didn't realize that it was so important. I only put points into intelligence, faith, mind and arcane. I wear the twinsage crown that gives 6 extra int but reduces my HP and stamina. Oh well. I have a few farming spots I'll try to rush early. I'm also hunting some big bosses that give tons of runes to get some extra levels. I'll attempt Mohg the Omen in the capital sewers next. And I'm doing the putrid tree whatever in the War Dead catacombs but that sucks massively.
