Who's willing to bet that they took on board the criticizm about enemy level and equipment scaling, and now there will actually be some feeling of progression as you level up?

Perhaps even the odd respawn, so you can level above the expected paygrade if you want to reload less often?

No?

That's funny, because I don't remember them getting any criticism for level scaling.

What. The. Fuck. Is there some sort of conspiracy to prevent games from raising the bar or even evolving?
:x

The conspiracy is called "multi-platform-development".
As long as they are restricting themselves to more than 5 year old console hardware, we are not going to see any revolution, graphics-wise.

As for gameplay, they develop games mostly according to what they think will sell best.

Sure, but signs of life? Random quests...if there is opt to turn off quest compass etc.

Btw one of the best Quest compasses was shadows of the colossus. Press a button and you would hold your sword up, causing light to reflect off it in the direction of your next spot. Was very natural for hmmm...where was that mountain again? And yet not invasive for when you were riding across the plains.

I like it. The trailer itself is good, from cinematic point of you.

The game itself is another matter. Most of us will play it anyway, simply because we like action-rpgs and this one, coming from a big company promises a polished experience if not, depth.

I know, I know, I hate Oblivion with a passion too. But also I loved Morrowind.

What troubles me most with this game is:

a) Uninspiring setting - dragons... really? Same old mountains, caves, rivers, villages... and even if they are represented better than Oblivion this time, they are still pretty generic. Morrowind raised the bar, why can't Bethesda stand up to their own standard with this?

b) clanky combat - this dragon shout mechanic is silly. What's wrong with good old weapons and magic? Another matter is the "epicness" factor, you simply can't fight the same way against bear/bandit/zombie and Dragon. WTF is this sword-hacking against the flying dragon... I don't think both kinds of combat could be implemented well in the same combat system. In any game. It will just look silly for one of the two, in this case - the dragon fighting.

Btw, the environment looks good even if it's generic on concept.

You are mostly right.

Thing is, it's not the /concept/ of Dragon Shouts that I dislike, but more the presumption that Bethesda is using it simply as gimmick. As if the marketing team said: "You MUST include something in the game that has never been seen before (no matter how stupid it is)" - you know, you can still make original weapons, and much more original spells. What's the point to have dragon shouts, if the spells in the game are going to be same old fireball, cure, stone skin..

Also, Dragon Shouts are known to come as collectible element which is.... meh. And that implies that there be MANY dragons from whom to extract said dragon shouts and that's even more meh.

I've tried to read some lore basis for what Beth did in Rimjob, but it almost instantly triggered my anti-derp shield, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details.

Rest assured, though - the RAEP continues and it's bad.

Anyone cancelling a game that looks *half* as good as that Project Offset clip (which was probably barely in alpha) simply has to be retarded beyond drooling vegetable state. And then they do it without really explaining why.

They got criticism for it (magazines stopped slurp slurping it once fans realized petty thieves clad in daedric armor doesn't work very well), which is why Fallout 3's scaling sytem worked differently (raiders would eventually get access to heavier weapons, but would still be shitty raiders).

would it even matter if they were designing the games for brand new console tech? it's still targeting ADHD faggots who won't cross the 20 ACT barrier.

Looks a hell of a lot more varied and interesting than Oblivion, map design appears to have improved (more detailed environments) but everything else seems the same as before including combat. Regardless, even if it's as dumb as ever, it looks to be enjoyable for exploration and atmosphere alone. Just hope for once there won't be a ton of lazy copy-paste work which mainly ruined Beth's last few games on top of their other problems.

I only got hyped once as Oblivion came, if this comes from post Morrowind Betsoft it's shit no matter how nice this trailer looks. I won't even torrent it. :smug:
