Releasing right after Elden Ring truly is a bad call though. I've still pre-ordered ELEX II GOTY 2022-3022, but it's probably going to be sitting on the digital shelf for a month or two until I'm done with ER and I'm sure it's going to negatively affect their total sales.

PB are dummies for releasing right now anyway. Nothing will be lost by holding out a few more months. Same thing with Cyberpunk -- this is a brutal month for new releases.

Imagine being the Cyberpunk devs, stoked that people are going to finally get to play an upgraded version of your game. Maybe this is it! This is your second chance! Redemption! Player counts will go up, and you will have salvaged the name of CDPR. Maybe some game journos will take a second crack at the game, and write a glowing review.

Then Elden Ring comes along and shits all over your hopes and dreams, just covers them in slippery, gooey poop. The Japanese man has crushed yet another eastern European under his heel, demonstrating his contempt for your craft and showing you no mercy. Pole or German, it makes no difference. The samurai has killed you on the battlefield and will go collect his glory from your household.

ELEX had their worst combat system since Gothic 3 (not an easy feat, coming from Risen 2 and 3) and I have yet to see anything that can convince me that ELEX 2 will be an improvement.

Risen 2's combat was possibly one of, if not the worst combat I've ever seen in a ARPG. The combat in Elex was bad, but at least it didn't feel like an afterthought like the one from Risen 2.

I'll be honest: I like even current Cyberpunk more than Elden Ring.

Ambition is good. (They just needed to spend another 2+ Billion after the 300+ Million they already spent and it would be perfect.)

The reason is simple. I, sir, am a graphics whore.

(I even like the latest Horizon for its graphics.)

Boss battles with good but not amazing graphics are just not enough anymore.

Edit. For those downvoting, let me tell you, I played Serious Sam and Final Fantasy and seen every kind of big huge monster getting kicked in the shin. It's something I've already seen. SINE - Size Is Not Enough.

I need the dragon boss to look so good that even Hollywood can't render that shit. It's gotta be better than a movie. In direct proportion to how much worse the story is, multiplied by the price of my graphics card, multiplied by console generation.

So at this point, that big dragon boss needs to be not only big and huge and shiny, but look more real than reality itself. The gameplay may suck, sure, but who's playing games? Isn't everyone is just watching lets plays?

If we can't have gameplay that is amazing, then the animations and visuals gotta just MUFFIN - Make Up Fucking For It Now.

Edit. Elex 2 out and it's also merely okay-ish. Like the formula but still needs better graphics and loot. Well, waiting then for whenever Cyberpunk gets fixed.

.....And the fact that both Elden Ring and ELEX 2 are 3rd person action RPGs with weighty, lethal combat is another problem with such a close release date.

Elden Ring I'll probably buy in two-three years, with all dlcs on heavy discount.

Elex was great and I generally enjoy all of PB's games. That said it ain't even close...Elden Ring looks to be a masterpiece and all the previous Dark Souls games are just amazing. From Software is simply operating on another level with their games and crafting some of the finest experiences imaginable. That's not what I'm hearing. From all the play tests my understanding it is more manageable (easier) now, but still has a good difficulty and certainly isn't "casual". It's not like Elex is difficult anyways except the first 5 hours or so which indeed are brutal...after that though you basically steam roll the rest of the game. Shit, my Elex playthrough it was already pretty easy after 4-5 hours, and once I got that blackhole skill I literally rofl-stomped the rest of the game including bosses.
