I suspect that Outlaws are severely handicapped in this game. Because neither bleeding damage nor radiation works well on robots which happen to be one of the two main enemy types in the later part of the game (and mutants are immune to radiation I guess?). And except for the flame thrower all the heavy weapons are ridiculously underpowered.
Choosing Clerics is probably the easy route, at least it seems so if I extrapolate the damage from that already very cool Energy Regent Sword that I found.
...
This would be really shitty design if I'm right btw.

Outlaws are micro/crafting reliant, but not weakest.

Playing on Ultimate full melee no companions and trying to facetank shit while being underleved is closest to what I would call masochism in Elex. I was ok with Difficult (but I did no-elex run, and was wearing tier 1 armor most of the game), since what, instead of being 1-2 shotted, you'd rather be 0.5-shotted instead?

On Ultimate as Outlaw with chainsabre I meleed + drugs + elex to get all the drugs and perks I wanted (and 90 con for flamethrower during endgame cause fuck endgame, although I did smash endboss with just chainsword spehhs marine style easy).

And yeah you can win easy even without stuns.

I was often able to knock Molochs dead without getting hit once I had high stamina to string together quick attacks. They are one of the trickiest enemies because they have relatively fast, abrupt attacks, but honestly I think the knockback / knockdown / stun effects the player can have are so reliable that if anything players are too overpowered. I hate just saying git gud because I don't think you're doing anything retarded & I have no way to be sure, but it really does sound like you often spent way too long fighting enemies above your level, and then at higher levels you often fought in a very 'honest' manner, combining to make the game far more difficult, for better or for worse, than other players.

Clerics is super easy mode but not because of the regent sword. As everybody keeps saying, black hole or plasma = win button.

Jet pack attack works better against bigger enemies as an initial attack from far away, you can close the distance fast, sometimes it bugs out but it's rare. You can do it from very far away.

Moloch and mechs shouldn't be one shotting anything, but I only played on normal, still I'm guessing ultra isn't much different. Considering there are only about 5 mob types and they all only have one or two moves or movesets, I don't see the point in playing on higher difficulties. You're just going to have to hit mobs 4-5 times more to kill them due to HP bloat. Better to just get the fights over quickly.

Also, did anyone go the outlaw route with guns? Seems like most are going the laser cannon route with the clerics.
Tried some peasant weapons (all tier 3, Ultimate diff)
Shotgun
+ none
- no dot, no aoe or stun, poor range, seems to pass through enemies and miss all the time
Crossbow/Heavy crossbow
+ Easy to shoot, can get early, has explosive bolts that knock back and bleeding bolts
- weak, hard as fuck to craft enough bolts
Rocket Launcher
+ knocks back
- can't run or jp when carrying, heavy, barely more damage than other weapons (125 vs 100), super slow moving missiles, hard to get missiles, hard to aim right
Grenade Launcher
+ it's actually a light weapon - you can run and jp, shoots fast, fast projectiles, good range, knocks back . the unique version shoots 3 grenades at a time, lol
- no DoT, prepare to waste lots of grenades
Flame Thrower
+ i has become death. the destroyer of worlds. unique version does 83 damage and can be stolen in Hort for freeh. versiom B does ~100 dmg, version A does 125 dmg (whatthefucks). 1 elex per fuel.
- heavy, can't move or jp.
Chainsabre (Bleeding)
+ low stat requirements, easy to find, bleeds everything to death.
- Fire&Energy DoTs are more reliable.

tldr if you absolutely need to dodge use grenade launcher, for everything else exists napalm.

Outlaws have the highest damage dealing melee weapons in the game. Scrap hatchet for one hand, Slaughterblade for two hand. They also have that stim that doubles damage. When everything dies in 2 or 3 hits, DOT damage doesn't matter.

Arcania Gothic 4 was not developed by PB. big Deal.

Sounds like a big deal to me. Just because Gothic 3 hurt your fragile feelings you find that it's somehow justified to heap blame on PB over something they had no control over. Gothic 3 may have not been the best shit ever, but it certainly wasn't as crappy as Arcania (which isn't Gothic 4 anymore btw, they dropped the title when PB got the rights back to the Gothic series).
But since PB got the rights back to Gothic. Arcania Gothic 4 can be considered a PB product. :smug:

I wanted ti rate your sperg post both butthurt and shit.

Combat is a fucking chore in Elex. Something as ordinary as hitboxes cannot be done compently by present day PB. Just because you get used to clunky shit doesn't mean its ok. its still shit and you have lowered your standards.

You need ultra uber vision to find out how broken hitboxes are.

The only good part in Elex is exploration; but every other facet of the game is splattered by massive turds of incompetence.

Area transition shouldn't induce eye blinding rape which cannot be turned off.

Shit GUI and Inventory management isn't a deal breaker by itself, but just adds another dollop of incompetwnt shit to the above two glaring flaws.

And why exactly is the save system such console grade shovelware? Can have max 100 saves and your windows username xannot have special characters. Don't germans have lot of those special characters in their name? like ß or è or whatever.

dragonul09 look at this Kyk Von twerp; At this point I am not even sure that he is on the codex hype meme train or is genuinely brainwashed into thinking elex is next best thing to sliced bread.

Really, the best tactic against molochs or say PexesKekekeKexes and any dangerous enemies is to prep-attack while they are running into you right away and be as agressive as possible. There is no reason to roll and, pardon the pun, :shittydog: . Just constantly :shittydog: means you'll get hit. When hitboxes and enemy patterns are either nonexistent or unreliable, being agressive and as damaging as possible is the best thing you can do.

And exploiting invul frames and monsters being dumbfucks and hitting each other.

(The guy to the right who chose concrete as best resting place for his head was still alive there... don't know what he was doing there. Taking a nap?)

Also for pure melee I'd go with 2-handed weapon. Earlier to get with extra damage, and weird hitboxes which make no sense, but extra range so you end up killing things by using compressed air from your strikes. Sky Dragon Slash 8 Falling Leaves Autumn Sakura Bloom Jax Sama Technique and such. I think.

Also kudos developer for that spawn there. I didn't even notice half of them until I dropped from some random building. If that was placed by hand then designer was a sadist, and if not well thank you spawn system!

Scrap hatchet? Nah, I prefered the chain sabre with its quicker special attack.

And you're right with the mind changer stim of course. I used that all the time near the end.
And it probably more than makes up for the shitty DoT effects. So forget what I wrote about Outlaws being underpowered. Their big guns are shit and the DoT effects are underwhelming meaning it's not much fun to build one but they still manage.

"Everything dies in 2 or 3 hits" is an extreme exaggeration though, with this stim active I still need 5 or more even for puny combat robots.

Maybe on higher difficulties sure, You can one shot a mech robot with a jet pack attack on normal after taking that stim.

Pick me up and Mind Changer can be taken together if you upgraded your chem capacity.
Together they made combat much easier since animation ends faster and you dealt twice the damage per hit.

I seriously don't get the "problem" with 100 max save slots.
It is a problem for whom exactly - the mouthbreathers who manually save their game into a new slot every 5 minutes?
I've played the game for 50+ hours, quick-saving it every couple of minutes and manually saving it to one of 3 save slots every 15-20 minutes or so, and I don't have any issues.

Is it like complaining that Fallout has 10 save slots, and your retarded ass can't deal with the game because of it?

Stepping on a landmine scared the shit out of me.

Also, did anyone go the outlaw route with guns? Seems like most are going the laser cannon route with the clerics.

I didn't exactly "go" the outlaw route, but I did explore all the weapon types.
Basically, each faction gets a good 2gp/shot weapon:
Zerks = bow - strongest per-hit damage (120 damage for grade +++), very slow speed (compared to other weapons), long range, firing arc and slow projectile speed makes for harder accurate fire, strong dps alt fire mode if you're a zerker, high dex req (71 for grade ++, 78 for +++).
Outlaws = shotgun - 96 damage for grade +++, medium range, easy to shoot, moderate stat requirements (66 str+dex for ++), unimpressive (also expensive and hard-to-get) alt-fire modes, average fire rate, small clip size.
Clerics = lazor - 94 dmg for grade +++ (can find stronger unique variants with much higher non-standard stat reqs), medium range, easy to shoot, average fire rate, generous clip size, high dex req (73 for +++), can't really comment on alt-fire modes.

All in all, there's no significant difference between shotgun and laser, while bow is somewhat differently balanced.
These weapons can be reliably used to pick off pretty much any (single) enemy in ranged combat without engaging in melee.
Overall, shotgun and laser are stat-balanced for each corresponding faction, making them easy to pick up and use even if you specialise on different things.

Regarding other weapons:
crossbows - haven't found any to play with. I suppose I should go buy and upgrade one, and see if the damage is up to suff. I expect it to be a "reskin" of laser/shotgun.
harpoons - too fucking rare to care.
flammenwerfer - fireball = cheat mode, disgustingly cheap (if hard to get - like 2 sellers in the game) ammo.
plasma - relatively expensive ammo, emp is useful vs robots, explosion - cheat mode, though less than flamethrower's (no ignite).
grenade launcher - annoying targeting interface makes some getting used to, otherwise a decent (expensive) alternative cheat mode compared to plasma.
missile launcher - same as grenade launcher, but easier to shoot, higher damage and stat reqs. Again - cheat mode.

Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
But since PB got the rights back to Gothic. Arcania Gothic 4 can be considered a PB product. :smug:
Kindly elucidate how a game formerly known as Arcania Gothic 4, as developed by Spellbound Studios, and now known merely as Arcania, since PB has the rights to the Gothic IP, can be considered a Piranha Bytes product.

The hilarious thing is when people claim to hate the game AND they want more save slots. It’s like saying “I hate being sodomized with this dildo... get me a much bigger dildo.”

BTW, How good is the best fully upgraded laser rifle compared to the best plasma? And if you use any other mode than laser single fire.

At the end of the game I used the lazer III almost exclusively without ever reaching for the redeemer. That is mostly because I had 2k energy cells and just kept burst firing everything to death before it could reach me. The plasma gun's juggling and 7 shots/clip actually made fights last longer than going full retard on the laser gun.

And they really really have to do something about these hitboxes. At least the ones for thrown rocks need to get a lot smaller. Also rocks shouldn't be allowed to be thrown in the opposite direction as the giant hand movement.

if after 67 hours you still complain about the fucking troll rocks, which are just about the easiest thing to evade in this game, you have only yourself to blame

hint: use jetpack :shittydog:

Game's not worth playing more than once imo. There just isn't enough reactivity or C&C that matters in the game. Being in a different faction or picking different dialogue options doesn't really change anything that matters as far as I can tell. All those so and so's death will affect the story or your decision will have far reaching consequences messages don't affect anything most, if not all, of the time.

Was referring less to whatever C&C there might be, and more to just going full retard with elex drinking and heavy two-handed weapons instead of lazer spam.

They never "lost" any in the first place. It's even on my retail box of Arcania Gothic 4 I acquired day one. Says that "Gothic" and "Piranha Bytes" belong to Pluto 13 GmbH (that is - Piranha Bytes).

Troll rokks are designed and animated badly just like many projectiles in the game. It doesn't matter if you learned how to evade them, they're still bad.

One of the most unintuitive things about rokks and many projectiles is that you can make a perfect evade by rolling the moment rock basically connects to your face and almost does the AoE. Yet it will miss due to either invulnerability frames if these even exist, or... just vanish without harming you.

And yes enemies can shoot backwards, animals can shoot projectiles in homing arcs a-la amazon from Diablo 2 (due to projectile homing while you're already behind cover or something like that), and they can even shoot while knocked to the ground and some other stuff.

It doesn't make game more "hardcore" or players who dislike it "bad". It's a valid criticism.

Oh an using JP against troll rock can actually make rock still hit you due to ...not sure what really, but sometimes it does indeed.

Mastering bad combat system doesn't turn it into a good one. I don't understand why some people just repeat that same shit over and over again like it would suddenly morph into a valid argument for a system.

also, i wake up today and i'm still amazed how terrible the main storyline is :shittydog:

It's like they put in a dozen connected subplot intrigues but forgot to finish any of them or ran out of time to do so. Srsly:

- Evil dad. Evil dad suddenly appears in converter, then just as suddenly vanishes, and finally conveniently leaves you 4 audiologs to explain his evil and even then it remains really dumb. Wut.
- Zardoz. Zardoz gets himself a mutant army that he never uses, then suddenly trololo kidnaps Caja, and by "kidnaps", I mean "dumps her in his not-exactly-secret-lair so that the playa might come in and say whatho whaddup im here to rescue you".
- Zardoz again. His sudden-ass teleportation to Thorald and Caja and the massively tardo orion jackal shapeshifting are off the charts dumb and outside game logic (must be forbidden ancient ELEX magix).
- Speaking of, wise sensei Thorald who knows everything about everything including alb tech is... :M
- And then there's the pointless Thorald "ritual" whose only purpose is for Caja to get kidnapped, see prior point.
- "Yuo are a berserker, Jacques, and so is Kallax!" uhhhhh okay, what about it?
- "Jacques, there's a mind control device in ur 'ead!" uhhhhh okay, what about it?
- Elexetor Tarek the guy without purpose. Yo whaddup homie why you kill muh alb army in front of palace? O ok imma just stand here and pretend nothing happened then while i tell u about evil dad.

I can see where they might have been heading with some of those subplots, but really, without any proper closure or fleshing out, the majority of them just should have been cut. Remove Zardoz, remove evil dad, remove mind control chip, remove berserker origins, almost nothing is lost. You'd just have to somehow come up with a different culprit behind shooting Jacques's glider, but you might just as well put that on the separatists and say they shot you down to stop you from carrying out the hybrid's eevul schemes.

what a silly game :shittydog:

Try not saving Caja

You can don't rescue Caja, and you'll still find her in the post-game visits ... alive and well.
They even have a dialogue about how she asks for an update on what's going on.
Zardom screams cut content all the way.

Is the huge variance in felt combat difficulty a factor of stunlocks? NotAGolfer's experience is strange to me - Molochs are powerful but they were never a threat beyond level 25 or so, and combat mechs become trivial after that as well. Hell, with plasma rifles you can easily stunkill Cyclops! Late game battles were either fun in the "I finally get to roflstomp these fuckers" way or boring in the "meh nobody poses a real threat" way, and I wonder if that changes if you refuse to use any knockdown of any kind.

Yep, I was also surprised to read about struggling with Molochs and such at level 40+. With a solid two-hander I could reliably stunlock them at level 12 or so. As long as I dodged the initial charge (which was 1HKO), they were among the more sluggish and easy large opponents. Easier (or rather faster to kill) then trolls.
Unlike the Chimera (lots of HP, its aggressiveness leaves little room to disengage and recharge Stamina between combos) or the combat mechs (die quickly, but deal a lot of damage in melee).

Now at level 17 and at Legate rank, btw. The armor looks very cool. Cleric and proud! Needed to spend all my reserves to buy it though and it's not a huge survivability boost I hoped it would be.
Oh well, neither was the Power Armor PSI skill... but between that, new armor, armor skill, Bone Marrow Soup and Last Stand (1 off, but can be recast easily), at least its no longer possible to 1HKO my Jax when prepared. And that was the most frequent cause for reloads.
Oh I also got the Phasing ability... the one that leaves a decoy whenever you dodge roll. Will need to play a bit with that.

Unfortunately, choosing to that dialogue option understandably cockblocks Caja from any romance opportunity. So I don't know How It went with her. How's it?
i’m still upset about the threesome of the witcher 3.
