still not worth it :(

missions are incredibly bad (a lot of mission types are even completely broken), NPC spawning is some of the worst ever conceived by men, factions are absolute garbage, trading is literally "find profitable ABAB route and milk it", there's no proper economy as all the commodities exist just for trading (nothing is linked/ connected, nothing is consumed and nothing is produced, stuff just replenishes out of thin air), and no, missions don't offer even basic exploration stuff that you ask (they're either simple fetch quests, go kill x dudes, or go kill that specific dude, with Horizons adding "go kill that base" which is fun for about 2 times), and despite the amazingly fun flight model, the AI seems to be getting progressively worse for about 2 patches (after getting better for 2), so not even combat farming is satisfying any more

actually, with the 60 bucks separated expansion and lack of proper content, *now* it's not worth it anymore.
before it, it was worth on the basis of a decent simulation and many hopes and dreams, now that those hopes and dreams have been crushed all it's left is a wasteland of missing content.

That's the biggest problem -- the cash grab expansion system. Hopefully Braben takes a step back and fleshes out all the promised content before he charges for yet another expansion. Assuming he doesn't I would still wait for Horizons (which includes the base game) to be 50% off or more.

even at 50% is still not worth it (and i'm saying that as someone who paid full price for ED and Horizons [well, full price minus the pitiful "loyalty discount"]). considering what they announced for "Season 2" and what they delivered in "Season 1", the game will be half-decent and worth the 50% off by the time Star Citizen will be out

yes and no. i mean, when you're actually near the planets (the ones you can land on in Horizons), they're definitely massive and scaled properly. otherwise, they feel kinda small as you're always really really far away from them (most stations orbit their planets in really high orbit, like moon-orbit) and travelling in supercruise (which is really really fast). people say that everything feels properly scaled in VR, but for us plebs without 700€ spare change it's meh

Hours to drive through lifeless space and maybe you'll find a space barnacle on a random far away space rock. No incidence on gameplay , a miserable profit , how excited am i to play horizon again. No one will even know i was the first to discover a new species of space barnacles....

Space LARPers paradise.
Thats what the guy says in the video, they cater to "roleplayers" , listen to them and he praises them on that . That makes senses they will not lsiten to a guy like me , the only thing redeeming can find is it uses my hotas setup.
Look at empyrion, a minimal budget, ridiculously low price, with russian devs alpha . You can already, build your own ships, build base with auto defense and explore by foot many worlds with alien life. Its not looking nearly as good but its a lot more promising than anything horizon plan to offer.

Elite Dangerous Arena Out Now, Aims To Be “In The Mix” With Call Of Duty

By Graham Smith on February 16th, 2016 at 11:03 am.

Elite Dangerous: Arena is out. It’s Elite Dangerous’s existing Close Quarters Combat (CQC) mode re-packaged as a standalone game and being sold for £5/$7.50. Frontier hope that it’ll act as a new entry point for players intrigued by Elite but intimidated by its size, and David Braben says he hopes “it’ll bring a different audience to the game as well.”

“We’ve done an awful lot of shows now, and what we’ve found works best is to actually set people up in Arena around a table against each other, either in teams or as individuals,” says David Braben, Frontier’s CEO. “They get into it really quickly, even people who haven’t played the game at all.”

Although Arena has been a part of Elite Dangerous since last year, Braben says that a lot of players skip straight past it. That’s not a problem except that it can be a valuable step on the learning curve, giving players an opportunity to become accustomed to piloting ships and managing their power in a low stakes environment. For starters, if you’ve played Elite proper, you’re not bringing your hard-earned ship into the combat arena, but instead are given a choice of four of Dangerous’s combat-style ships. When you get destroyed, it simply respawns.

“It lowers the entry point,” says Braben. “There are a lot of people who wouldn’t play [Elite: Dangerous] who would go, ‘Oh I’ll play [Arena].’ And there will be some who will want to carry on to Elite: Dangerous, and we’ll have an offer where you can get your money back if you want to buy the full game.”

Ah the good old classic! Going for the CoD audience.
I don't think it's working.

According to the Elite Dangerous: Arena community page no one is currently playing the game - I think that means that there are at most up to 100 people in the game at the moment.

That's pretty... sad.

I don't know what they were thinking when they did this.

Launch is my birthday and I just got some hot ass myself. Thinking about picking up some virtual pornography.
