Maybe playing a boring game in VR makes it all better? Or maybe you just get eyestrain along with the boredom.

How do you use the HOTAS with VR on? Just remember where all the buttons are?

Then again E:D is designed for xbox controllers, so there can't be that many controls.

That stick is the actual stick in the ED cockpit, and hand motions in game mirror button presses 1:1

I play with a m+kb and it's ok. I wonder how it is with HOTAS gear. Is it comforable to play using the extra stick axis for yaw? What is used for lateral thrusters, the "hat"?

HOTAS is perfect for VR because you have a ton of buttons and good analog controls, and you never have to move your hands (minus some switches on the Throttle base for stuff like landing gear).

Loving this game so far. Got into my first dogfight last night with some random guy in the same starter ship as me, BTFO'd him :smug:

I got some rudder pedals since the Warthog stick doesn't twist. Works perfect - extremely comfortable and accurate. Yeah I use a hat for lateral and vertical thrusters, but I only really use those for take off and landing.

Man, with a good hotas and VR you will own a lot of regular players. Not saying that it replaces skill, but it helps a lot to be a good pilot.

Did they added any new ships/stuff to do recently, or the game is still dull as fuck?
Still dull as fuck, there are a few new ships and some new mission types (go to x, then go to y etc), a separate deathmach mode with small ships. Nothing special...
Then there's the Horizons add-on with planetary landings and some new stuff but it's not worth the money from what I heard (it's supposed to get new content though).

elite is designed for this http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x52pro.html
literally this. this stick.
They can say whatever they want but it's designed for whatever is the weakest controller that is supported, which for E:D is a console gamepad.
You can control the game with a gamepad, that's true, but only through manually toggling every function in the 2 side panels, which takes a lot of time. If you have a joystick, keyboard or a full HOTAS setup, you can control the game quicker and more efficiently.

So I would rather say that they forced the game on a gamepad, but they clearly designed it for joysticks.

So basicly, if you don't have that shitty expansion you can't "specialize" your ships.

Wake me up when they add some kind of quality content.

Well, yeah. They made it pretty clear that all the new stuff released this year was for horizons only. Jews will have to wait until november to get the shekel-saver edition.

It really takes effort to make up such disconnected and nonsensical gameplay elements... At least they have some fluff now I guess...
Wow, I bought Horizons at release and have only played for 15 minutes without any motivation to jump back. Now it's summer and on autumn I have no time. At Christmas we will see a new expansion release with "something". Regarding how often I have played Horizons I guess I can skip the game and play I-War 2 and Oolite instead. Or a fully modded X3. Or some Star Citizen beta (maybe).

same here... the only game purchase i have regretted. even after seeing this i just can't be arsed to play this boring ass game. only the flight model is good (excellent, i'd say), but that only goes so far... meh, i guess i'll wait for another year or two when most of the competition will be out if ED will still be around

If Frontier is to be believed, we're getting character face generation (same tech they're using for portraits in this upgrade) in late july, more crafting in late sepetember and multi-user ships (one guy piloting, another manning turret or piloting a ship launched from hangar of a bigger one) with all people visible on the bridge just before christmas. Next expansion will focus on ship/station interiors with walkaround stuff. No word on whether we'll get FPS too, huehuehue. :p

I'm not interested in multiplayer (I guess you can't hire npc crew for the ships nor do I want to constantly have to switch stations like in I-War 1 to fly effectively). The face gen is nice but not really a reason to get excited for me.
Walking around stations and stuff I guess they will have a hard time to make that interesting without a serious rpg/fps environment ongoing (missions, reasons to leave the ship, station variations, unique stations etc.). Maybe making it Privateer style with set scenes to click around.
My biggest problem is actually the gameplay mechanics which disqualifies the game for me in most parts. The buggy gameplay with the mining of "micro" ressources is just stupid. Why create an extra ressource gameelement instead of making it normal sellable cargo to collect? Especially if its just natural minerals to collect. Alien artifacts I could understand.
Then I predict that the Engineers with it micro-pimping stats will require you to mine/farm ressources just to keep up with other people.
And unlike - which seems to be the majority or at least the loudest majority - I don't like the flying model of the game, newtonian physics aside or not. I think the handling of the ships is just abysmally slow past a Cobras maneuverability. It feels like flying a capship in X3. But yeah, it's still tolerable for me because I will just stick to the Cobra but it literally limits my selection of ships.

I think one of the biggest problems this game have is the size of a fucking galaxy. I remember Freelancer (yes, I know it sucked at many levels) server with Discovery mod where I've been constantly seeing other people.
ED? I got fully upgraded FDL and I've met maybe 10 players (and some more at stations) playing online all the time. Interactions were totally minimal.
Missions suck. PvE is boring. Powerplay suck (altough, it was promising when they mentioned it first) and doesn't work they way it should (Again, minimal interactions with other players), exploration is mostly boring.
Mining? I don't even have a word. It's not enjoyable and doesn't give you a profit it should. Hauling stuff is much better paid.
And now we have new "content", which is driving a buggie across almost empty planets. So much fun I'm fucking speechless. Have Braben even played his own game?

I have absolutely no hope they can improve it. The only sane thing they probably won't do is to make this game extremely moddable and give people abillity to create their own servers (possibly, with their own, smaller galaxies)
But first, Braben needs to milk it for 10 years.

I think the main problem of the game is the grindy mission design, which are taken from the MMO design book. I don't really care if I don't encounter other players, I don't play this game as an MMO.
