Pencil. Paper. Everyone has been bugging FD for a navcomputer (or just showing a list of systems you need to jump to in the small monitor between the pilots legs) for ages. :M

being able to set up a manual route would be pretty awesome. doing it manually for each friggin jump is fucking annoying.

I end up wasting too much time and effort effort trying to determine the best jump towards my destination in the galaxy map. For long trips, a lot of it is just guesswork.

In the Galaxy map, be sure to change it from showing most economical route to fastest route.

Looks like the Big Money™ are in rare goods. Each rare good is only sold in one station and becomes worth more the further away you go before selling it. The prices on thhis graph are a bit out of date, but the curve is pretty much the same.
5C8puVv.png

So the trick is to find several systems with a rare good, 100+ light years apart and do a circuit of them that takes long enough for the first station to replenish its stock.

I tested it today.
Cobra. 34T cargo capacity.
15LY jump range. (More than 15ly actually, but 15ly was the longest jump I made).

Eranin (Azeban City): Fill cargo hold with Eranin Whisky (rare good). About 60k cr for a full cargo hold.

Jump list:
Eranin -> BD +47 2112 -> DG Canum Venadcorum -> Wolf 424 -> DEN 1048-3956 -> LTT 3572 -> L 32-8 -> LHS 160 -> L 17-428 -> Chi Eridani

Chi Eridani (Steve Masters Station): Refuel (~6800 cr). sell Eranin whisky for ~320k cr (260k cr profit). Fill cargo hold with Chi Eridani Marine Paste. go back to Eranin.

Depending on interdictions, time spent in stations and how long you take to jump, a full circuit takes 30-45 minutes and netted me about half a million credits.

They're probably going to tweak the prices or commodity availability before release, since th emoney are ridiculously good atm. That said, once you get a hauler or cobra with a rating C, B or A FSD, hauling rare goods in a multi-station circuit is probably going to be pretty profitable.

That is one sexy beast... Here's hoping they release some more flyable Empire ships in the future.

There's 2 at the moment: Imperial Clipper (Light warship) and Orca (Passenger liner/cargo hauler).
Other imperial ships devs said would be flyable in the future: Dolphin (Orca's little brother), Imperial Courier (Scout), Imperial hunter (Short-range fighter).

I wouldn't mind one of these in lieu of a sidewinder:

We're significantly increasing the bounty value for murder (by a factor of ten) as it has become increasingly out of step with other values (including the values of pre-assigned bounties on NPC ships). Assault stays the same though.

We're also decreasing the cost of most ammunition (by around half).

We'll be keeping an eye on how these changes pan out, and reserve the right to tweak further if necessary

Has anybody managed to find a fuel tank upgrade? So far I've only ever found C rated fuel tanks.

Is there a way to set up a travel route in Elite? I mean when I want to travel to a distant system, and I set it up as a destination on the galaxy map, it shows the route I have to take on the map, but when I'm in the cockpit, I only see the final destination as a target. Which is obviously too distant to travel there. So after every jump, I have to go into the galaxy map, find the next system on my way, and set it up as target. EVE Online did this very nicely. In that game if you set up a nav route, the game switched to the next system on your way after every jump, until you reached the final destination.

What I do for long trips that are beyond your nav distance, is rotate the galaxy camera until your current location marker is on top of the destination marker. Then zoom in on your location from that angle, and zoom out until you can spot the system that's farthest in the direction of your destination. If you do it enough, it takes about 10-15 seconds to plot the next hop.

So you're the cunt who's been draining my Lavian brandy run! :x

Fuel tanks all have the same rating. But you can downgrade their class if you want. That'll make your ship lighter at the expense of having to refuel more often.

As for routing, I do what Brady did. Line up current system+destination, set routes to fastes instead of most economical, zoom in unti I reach the edge of the ~50LY bubble it draws routes in. Write down jumps on a piece of paper. Repeat when I reach the edge of the bubble. Once I've one it once, I just use the route on a piece of paper.

There's an ongoing effort to crowdsource the system coordinates in a public database. I found a python scrip the other day that uses it to help you get a jump list from A to B given a max jump range of X. It even allowed your jump list to be displayed on the MFD of the throttle in the X52 HOTAS setup.

If you run borderless window mode like I do you can just alt+tab to notepad and not have to use any pen or paper.

I'll lay off of Lave as well. For a while there Ethgreze had a stock of 4000 plankton paste. I thought about carting it all across the galaxy in a Lakon 9 and got a boner.

Don't get too excited. When I checked it yesterday it was already down to 63, before I loaded up my Cobra that is. :smug:

Ok, got some free time to play, and I've deleted my last save (because I fokked things up, that's why)
What's the best way I can start now? From what I gather, hauling rare commodities nets you a great profit, but takes a lot of jumps. Still, before I can get something with a nice cargo bay, I probably have to grind some missions, yeh?

Sell off your freagle if you can and use it to buy a hauler. Run courier and trade order missions around your "home base" until you can swap out everything with the biggest cargo racks you can fit. Then fill up the hold with a cheap rare good (anything below 1000cr, Thrutis I think has some). Then plot a destination that's roughly 160-200 light years away and go on your money making journey.

You will have to make pit stops in your hauler since you won't be fitting a fuel scoop, and traveling without a shield while carrying high value goods is crazy dangerous. Avoid all combat and do your best to evade interdictions. If you do get interdicted, put all blips into engines and boost as much as you can while spooling up the FSD. Don't worry about overheating in that situation, because damaged components are better than blowing up and losing your cargo.

Once you work your way up to a cobra, all the risk is eliminated since you have the fastest top speed in the game so far.

From the latest update:
Hengist has been not involved himself in politics for a long time, relying on his Chancellor, Senator Blaine and has taken a laissez faire attitude towards a handful of increasingly powerful and ambitious Senators whilst Harold, the current heir, quickly made a name for himself as a feckless playboy.

Well, I've just played a build that has some route plotting, so hopefully that should be in a build soon. It has a range limit due to technical constraints, but for reasonably short journeys of several stops, I know I'm quite happy with the result
smile.png
.

How does it work?

Well, you lock a destination in the galaxy map and use a "plot route" option.next to it. As well as show the route in the galaxy map and a marker on the next step, it automatically targets the next step in the journey when you go back to the cockpit view.

However, you can deselect it and find it again because it has a cute little "plot" icon next to it (I love team GUI - they rock).

Once you jump, upon arrival the next step is targeted, and so on.

at least it's something...

I don't see it being all that useful if the plot range is smaller than a 40 lyr bubble.
It will be useful even in 15 ly. Even jumping 4 times is annoying by the constant switching of the galaxy map.

comments like yours make me glad that my starter ship has a 19ly jump range
