So, I'm gonna eat my words now and say: fuck this always online bullshit. I hope the servers will be solid after launch, because this shit makes my piss boil. I have 30K worth of mission to deliver, but I can't, because there is no connection to the server. Fuck this shit. And after I logged out and relogged, the misisons waiting to be delivered also disappeared from the bulletin board.

and people were laughing at me when i pointed out that if the situation was wonky at the gamma launch, it will only be much worse at release... we're not even there yet and there's already plenty of complaints about connection problems. can't wait to see the clusterfuck this tuesday

elite: fun with disconnects.
i especially love it when i plan some nice route going 100ly and then get a critical server connection on first jump after spending a minute watching the jump animation.
"you want me to save your route? fuck you, player."

Theres new missions opening up with rep but they arent worth it either, collect black box, artefacts etc.. I get it theres not much to do atm and l the asp will drain my credits right, but how does it fare ina fight at least compared to a cobra ?

The Asp can dominate a Cobra 1v1 through sheer firepower. All you have to do is reverse your thrusters and keep whackin 'em. Sometimes human pilots aren't that smart, though, and certainly not the NPC ones.

Yeah, because the alternative would be much cooler. Making a slow, silent trailer, which is boring and nobody cares about, so there are no influx of players of any kind.
Biatch, they made better in-engine trailers before.

Sure, but as far as grabbing people's attention, the new one surves its purpose more efficitently.

It does? The trailer looked boring as shit to me, but the one bonescraper posted was actually kinda interesting. But what do i now, i'm just a guy who actually happened to have played the original to death, and not, say, a CoD fan, apparently the intended target audience for this game (according to the trailer).

So theres no reasons to not upgrade, bigger is always better in this game, theres no ship specialization.

And now you are also a wanted criminal as the goods you agreed to deliver are considered as stolen .

The only time there wouldn't be a reason to upgrade is if it's not in fact an upgrade. The Asp and Cobra are the same class of vessel. They're both multirole. The Cobra is also more nimble, faster, has a smaller target profile, and is much cheaper to risk destruction. The game allows you to retain multiple ships anyways, so there's no reason for you not to keep a Cobra for when you feel like flying it instead of the Asp.

The Asp is a superior workhorse in terms of trade and 1v1 combat, but the Cobra's agility makes it more survivable in large engagements and better suited for mining & exploration. The Asp becomes a superior explorer for its range if you're heading beyond habitated space.

Interesting info on wear and tear from one of the developers.

Hello Commanders!

Wear and tear (Which is going to be renamed and slowed down) represents your ship suffering long term damage that results in a reduction to maximum hull health (so even if your hull says 100%, if you've suffered wear and tear, that 100% will be lower than it could be). Wear and tear never reduces your maximum hull health to 0 (I think the cap reduces your max hull down by 70% - we might tweak this).

I believe there will be a nominal fee to buff up your livery, which will become its own separate thing, allowing Commanders tomake their ships look nice even if they are starting to rot on the inside.

So, at any rate, this game is going live in a few days? How is it really? Shit, good for what it is, actually decent? Not sure if i have enough zogbucks to pay for a game at full price though. Will probably wait.

do any of you know the average black market price for rebel transmissions, prototype tech, black box, or trade data?

I think if you are not super excited about the game, then just wait a bit. Just to see out how does the always online turns out, how will Braben and Co support the game and to iron out some features.

Give it a couple weeks after launch once they've ironed out some kinks and gauge the reaction. Right now the Gamma is still not feature complete. No guarantee at this point that launch day won't be the same thing. If we can even play it on launch.

So, today I decided to put this baby together:
125ndc7.jpg

The ED head tracker costs about 15 GBP (if you buy the components and assemble it yourself). I'm a complete N00b in these kind of things, my soldering is awful as the picture shows it, but even I could assemble it. It works like a charm in ED, tracks head movement perfectly, which makes flying more comfortable. It is not a necessary accessory, but it really adds to your comfort.

Looks like Version 2.04 has some new graphical settings that go all the way up to Ultra. The only difference I've noticed so far is that there's quite a bit of improvement to the texture work. I'm getting 35 fps idling at Knight Dock, so this kind of fidelity is strictly Rich People Only.

The improvements to the Galaxy Map look pretty great too. The galaxy map no longer stutters even with the settings at Ultra any more, so no more low quality map game for moi.

Edit: changes to the map interface too. Trade Routes now has a Show All and Clear All button. :greatjob:

Native Borderless mode too. Lot of great graphical and interface updates heah.
