Been plenty of good and better remakes like Sid Meier's Pirates, Front Mission 1 on the DS, River City Ransom EX GBA, et cetera. Countless NES/SNES era games had their best version on GBA/DS. I know in current year the odds of remakes being better is less than 1% but it doesn't mean there should be no remakes.

Yuzu just released their newest YCS project aka rewrite of rewrite of shaders. Apparently 50% speed up in almost all games + better accuracy at just normal gpu accuracy than before at high + a lot of graphical bug fixes.

Downloading it right now to test stuff. For an example previously in in Xenoblade 2 I had around 30fps with my 5800X3D with some stutter in cities.

yup. now i have 50-60fps in Xeno2. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge jump in performance. Xeno 2 was one of the worst performance games.

These are mostly cd games and if you find anything in chd you have to convert it back to bin/cue because none of the emulators support that format.

Also Citra has Vulkan now, at least the canary version. It is better then opengl but nowhere near the performance of the unofficial vulkan build from a year ago. Gj, citra team.
Also, xenia has broken lost odyssey graphics again, they do this every couple of months.
Edit: Added other non rpg-strategy games mentioned by Duraframe.

Using the steam controller touchpads for touch control in DS games is just about the coolest thing ever.

Several adventures released on it can be played in English as well. Sometimes their arguably best released versions. (Like Loom or Zak Mckracken)

Though of course those you probably play via ScummVM.

New Patches interface is coming for PCSX2. Didn‘t really have one before . (Except for activating Widescreen/No interlacing patches via the menu)

What's the best way to play Metal Slug nowadays?
I've heard you can extract the rom from the GOG/Humble version and play it in MAME and supposedly it's as good as it gets.

Ok, I figured it out. The OSX version found in the extras has both "neogeo.zip" and "mslug.zip" ready to be emulated.
I used RetroArch with the FinalBurn Neo core and it runs like a dream (for a 30fps locked game).
All you really need to do is set the neogeo cpu overclock to 200% to eliminate all the slowdowns and uncensor the blood in the dip switches.

Ar tonelico 1 autistic stutter analysis:

1.4 with EE cycle rate overclock: 70 frames stutter
1.4 with no EE cycle rate overclock: 90 frames stutter
Nightly with no overclock: 107 frames stutter
Nightly with overclock: 88 frames stutter
Nightly software mode no overclock: 96 frames stutter
Youtube video #1 (real hardware, 60 FPS): 99 frames stutter
Youtube video #2 (real hardware, 30 FPS): 43 frames stutter

Conclusion, use 1.4 if you want a console like experience for one specific game and potentially other gust ps2 games.

Yesterday I found out that there's a great port of Forgotten Worlds, one of my favourite late 80s/early 90s games, to the PC Engine CD.

240.jpg

The PC Engine version has much better sprites and backgrounds (much closer to the original arcade version) compared to the Genesis/Mega Drive version, which is what I played as a kid, and a kickass remixed soundtrack. In addition, you get the voices samples from the arcade (although they're mixed very low in this port).

As the original PCE controller only had 2 buttons, you had to use the Run button (akin to Start in other consoles) to rotate your pod left, which is a little awkward. However, there was a 3-button controller called the Avenue Pad 3 which works flawlessly with this game.

There was even a cool bundle that combined the game and the pad.

The only drawbacks are some pretty egregious slowdown and sprite flicker. Definitely worth checking out. It's very clearable too - this version gives you two continues and 2 lives per continue.

There's some funny arcade pc engine cd ports if you look up information online on the older blogger sites or just looking at footage of the games, it was that kind of time where they lopped on cheap compressed PCM music tracks and fmvs to justify the disc space.

The MD version has a continue option with the second controller but there's a bug where it'll give you a game over screen if you use a 6 button controller, I remember it being that way when I still had the cartridge and thought it was broken.

If anyone willing to share their 3ds emulator files and maybe games i will appreciate, mine it's all screwed up after some hardware issues with the computer and last time i had to config was a pain in the ass.

There is not really much to mess around with.
You get the bios and the citra installer which gives you the options of stable or nightly installation. The only major differences and what you can actually change is the Vulkan backend in the nightly version.(not very stable yet)
Everything else is easy. One button control config and you only really mess with clock speed if a specific game needs it.

As for games, well google solves that.

Was using citra, but it keep crashing on me, whence asking. Yuzu it's on a similar boat but that may be because wrong config. (I'm kinda of a noob when it comes to the newer emulators)

Why is Spyro green? Is that his "special needs" cousin Sporo?
