Is it worth it for anything more than mainstay games like Persona and Final Fantasy which were the main reason people bothered making the emulator for in the first place?
Wat? Last time I tested my ~200 games, 99% of them were working fine or perfect.

But if by "plenty of fiddling about" you mean checking out compatibility list and changing 2-3 options once in a while, maybe you should go back to kitchen.
Glorious PC master race...

I was actually primarily referring to PS2 Suikodens running like ass, but I guess I'll give it a go. Thanks.

More testing ;)

1) Silent Hill - Origins

Previously totally unplayable:

Now works, but with heavy flickering (not visible, of course):

^ Native resolution

^ Non-native res (auto)

2) PoP - Revelations (AFAIR it was broken on jpcsp):

^ Yeah. FMV are so low-res it's not even funny

^ Ingame graphic are shit as well. When compared to PC version, of course.

3) PoP - Rival Swords

^ Shitty FMV again

^ Textures are terribly low-res, so the game looks shit even on non-native res.

^ Internal res looks slightly better, imo.

Unrelated to ejaculation discussion above, but how is good old PCSX2 doing these days? I remember plenty of fiddling about was required back when I tried it during the 9.0.something and this shiny 1.1 version kinda has me interested again.

In 2008 I could barely play any of PS2 games on my comp, now most of them runs 40-60 fps except for most demanding ones like Killzone, comparing to the earlier versions PCSX2 of 2013 offers HUGE speed boost.

PPSSPP seems to be coming along rather nicely with all these updates, hopefully everything gets ironed out in the next year or so.

Mednafen is getting a WIP update soon that will fix some PSX bugs and also incorporate per-system configs like RetroArch, which will be really nice when it comes to keybindings (i.e. having rewind binded on controller for NES, not binded for PSX). Once save state support gets finally added in, it'll be time to say good riddance to ePSXe and the like.

WinUAE has a new beta release as well, check that massive changelog.

The only games that I've had trouble getting to run properly in PCSX2 are the Snowblind engine games (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1/2, Champions of Norrath, etc.) and Primal. That's it. Everything else I've chucked at it runs flawlessly, and my processor is just middle of the road (I5 3570K).

Its DRM is very effective at preventing running testing programs so there is no point - the keys haven't been hacked, so no test programs can get signed to run.

I warned you about hardware DRM. I told you bro!
This btw, is the future for pc too. Intel is a early adopter.

Hmm how do these piracy-enabling flashcards work then? Or is that the question

They work only on FW version below 4.5 , they dont work for all games, and recently started to brick consoles at random

circumventing the protections for the using digital exact copies of the official games on another medium is not the same thing as being able to create new software that will be accepted by the public keys on the console (i believe all 3ds games are not only signed but also encrypted by that private key, unlike the PSP for instance, where only some games were encrypted).
That requires the private keys, which aren't on the console, but rather on a vault in nintendo HQ. Without the private key only a hack that bypasses all the verification would be able to run 'homebrew' programs, which i'm betting they didn't.
The only reason that the PSP/PS3 keys are known is that Sony used the same seed when signing software for the PS3 console, so a differential attack with the signatures of many games was able to recover the private key, and funny enough, the PS3 had the private keys of the PSP on the hardware, protected by the master key (dunno why).

Probably also why Sony can't wait to kill the PSP and replace it by the Vita.

Well, I've just stumbled over something wierd and interesting.

In looking for an update on the translation for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (itch has creeped back up), I found out that HD remake* for the PS3 is able to be run in PPSSPP. Not only that, but for a time (maybe still is, just glossed over the details tbh) it was easier to get running than the PSP version due to it having different kind of library files (or something.)

Seems I have a good reason to use PPSSPP other than testing & bullshit grindan' now. :smug:

*Note: remake is actually the original game coded with a PSP emulator & better textures/graphics. PPSSPP cannot magically run PS3 games just yet.

Anymore "remakes" like this working on PPSSPP ?
I wonder if this could also mean that the HD remakes of final fantasy X(and X-2) would be emulated on PCSX2... that just wishful thinking, right?

I guess your right :)
In the case of FFx-2, it has some interesting content which will be in english. Seeing it was originally a PS2 tittle, I thought it might be easier to be emulated just like the remake of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

The PS2 remakes on PS3 are basically upscaled versions of the exact PS2 games. No new textures/models, no new content. You can easily produce better results with PCSX2.

It's amusing how Sony first removed the downwards compatibility to PS2 and afterwards they're selling them the same games as PS3 "HD remakes".

...

On another note I can report that the ppsspp emu on android has gotten pretty good. There was a problem with in-game saving on some games that was resolved with the most recent build. I've been playing the shit out of it on my tablet.

I finished the Persona 1 remake without any problems and persona 2 and 3 look fine, though I havent tested them extensively. I also finished Corpse Party without any problems. I only wish it was possible to be able to save a different configuration for each game.

I'll probably start Tactics Ogre again at some point.

There's one special thing I love in Retroarch - the original Gameboy graphic filter that finally brings back to these games their proper look:

Damn, why haven't I heard about it earlier :/

That space is important. Without it, the images are effectively a different colour. A decent artist accounts for the imperfections of his medium while making the art. Removing those imperfections would fuck with the art. Imagine 'fixing' an oil painting my removing all the texture given by the brush so the entire image is perfectly flat and glossy.

Gentlemen. I've a hankering to play some of the post-PSX UFC/MMA games, more specifically Pride FC for the PS2 or anything beyond that. Is this possible to emulate correctly using today's emulation technology? I'm using a fairly OKish laptop running Windows vista 64.

Any advice on whether this is possible using modern majigal teknologee? Where should I go for emulators n' shit? Never emulated past PSX before.
