OK I will do it like this: If they significantly improved the networking I will buy it now.
If they didn't I don't.

Jokes on me of course, cause the demo does not contain multiplayer. GRRR PARADOX

The save converter means I'll have a potentially infinite number of alternate history set-ups

The multiplayer is significantly improved because of Steam. :troll:

Not sure i want to start with my best CK2 savegame, with Portugal controlling Iberia. From what i can see from the campaign map in the demo, i enjoy the distribution of power as is, will make for some challenge.

Nice preview, but i'm waiting for the end of the summer before jumping in, enough time for some of the mods to mature and iron out the kinks.

You are too optimistic. Half of month is enough for some fixes of game mechanic to appear, but it is not a good idea to play in major mods in this year. But if you want to help modders with beta testing, then it would be a very respectable decision.

As idea it looks very interesting, but converted game would not be so developed and balanced as normal game. And with mods gap will only widen.
But maybe in some far away future we will see that feature in full potential.

Also changes from demo. Most notable in my opinion:

- Overextension is now triggering bad events when you go over 100%, and its more frequent the higher you get.
- It is now possible for some provinces to be impossible to convert religion in, without special ideas and abilities.
- Improving stability beyond +1 is now more expensive.
- Death of a monarch is now always -1 stability, -2 if it happens in combat.

First three looks nice. But I doubt that second one prevent muslim Balkans and Catholic Ukrane in first 50 years of game. And last one seems as very lazy attempt at balancing stuff.

This is off base here, but I can't stand people who play games like EU like they play Starcraft. Constantly clicking and opening/closing boxes and selecting units and then doing nothing, like they just drank five cups of coffee and have to be doing something. Aside from annoying, it looks totally inefficient. Sorry, just watched some of the only "et's plays" of EU4 on youtube. Anyways, I'll be up for some EU4 multiplayer in about 6 months

I'm pissed off. Bought CK2 on Gamersgate and EUIV on Steam (Because what's the point of buying it elsewhere if it has to go through Steam anyway?) and naturally I can't save convert. The free copy of CK2 on Steam doesn't have all the DLC, only the converter, and as a result I can't save convert. (Export button doesn't even work.)

Christ, this pisses me off.

Sure it works. Just start the steam version of CK2, load up your save, select a christian country to play, start and then select "export game" in the menu.
The "export game" button on the game over screen doesn't work, for some reason.

Well, at least I'm enjoying the normal game. Just subjugated the fuck out of the Teutons as Poland. It seems odd though, it looks like Poland and Lithuania aren't in a union.

I can't believe I didn't think of that. Good thing I preserved a few Christian kingdoms, they're almost extinct.

Thanks bro, I owe you one.

I never touch the major mods, usually just stick to stuff like CK2+ for example. The only overhaul mod that i have played and keep tabs on for Paradox games is the GoT CK2 conversion, otherwise, vanilla is always preferable.

They were at union in earlier state of the game, but users from Poland are very vocal minority on Paradox forum, and it happened that way, that at the moment of game start union between Poland and Lithuania wasn't yet decided matter. Which is not very suprising, since game start right after Varna Crusade, that failed because polish king died very stupidly, but heroic (I guess it's synonyms in that case), so Poland was in period of uncertainty.

CK+ also counted as major mod. But yes, it plays almost exactly like vanilla. And that is the reason, why i don't like it much. Although some features like creating titular titles are very nice.

You can buy it via steam, then uninstall steam, and game will still work fine, fyi.

Can you confirm it? Their previous steam releases worked this way, but I could not find any definite information about EU4 except that you don't have to be online.
Anyway, game should be released now, so it would be simple to test. I won't getting it until sale at the least, and it would be great if someone prove that EU4 can run without Steam after install.
Just checked for you bro, and EU4 does NOT require Steam to run. Really surprised me since it has Steam achievements, Steam Cloud save support, and Steam multiplayer, but it absolutely runs without Steam.

Well one of the selling points is greatly increased networking. Haven't tested it yet though.

Game looks good so far, if this holds up codex MP gaem is a must.

I played a bit with glorious Poland. I can already see a great potential here. Game is harder than vanilla eu3 and harder than most mods. AI seems improved too, plays way smarter. Expansion is harder and wars can be extremely punishing due to how manpower works. Religious conversion is extremely slow unless you specialize in it. Cultural conversion is too easy on the other hand. Can argue with some design decisions but overall its WAY better than eu3 at start and seems to be at least equal to eu3 with all expansions.
