Spent half a day reading the shaders line by line, found no differences, just a super minor one
But now the issue is that the mouse clicks aren't registering in the game? If I try and start retroarch in fullscreen, then the game, the mouse isn't visible and clicks don't register either.

I've been futsing around with WinCast, Bear's Gate 1 and shaders a bit this week, myself
retroarch-2024-04-18-20-38-04-20.png

There's some information about this in the readme for wincast. When you've got the core loaded and have run the .txt file, hitting ctrl+alt+T will put retroarch 'out of focus', while still being in-focus visually and let you manipulate the program as normal. The readme recommends running games in windowed mode. Also for this to work I had to go into the general retroarch settings and make sure it didn't 'pause' when out of focus.

there's a combination of hotkeys you have to press to redirect all input from RA to the desired window, it's something like shift+something+something, it's on windowscast's page or its bitbucket page somewhere
Yeah I finally got it to work. The shaders are a bit iffy for it though, not quite sure it's working, and it is finiky I'll give you that.

So, links to links led me to the three games on myabandonware you have to purchase now but have been delisted everywhere; Shannara, Death Gate, & Companions of Xanth. I found a few copies but I have to wonder if they are really the full game. These were on cds after all.

Companions of Xanth 5.7mb zipped
Death Gate 10.1mb zipped
Shannara 68.8kb 7-zipped

They look like they're dos. Supposedly cd had voice so I feel something is missing. The purchase link goes to https://www.ziggurat.games/games. Clearly not there. Have these been put into the exodos archives?

Well, Shannara had a link to a magazine iso and there is this blogsite called The Collection Chamber. Yeah, the iso seems to have about 700mb data.

I have no clue about exodos, but quick search on archive org showed me they supposed to be much bigger in size.

Shannara (1996)(Virgin) Item Size 649.8M
Death Gate (1995)(Legend) Item Size 607.9M
Companions of Xanth Item Size 142.3M

I was looking at prices of hard copies. A bit all over the place. Novels that came with some boxed sets are usually missing.

Death Gate (1995)(Legend) Item Size 607.9M
Companions of Xanth Item Size 142.3M

That is about what I finally found on the archive. Another old nail in the coffin is HOTU. I loved that site.

Is this free? I need to check the size (I assume it is just one huge download) and what is in the library of it. Likely a library trip. I'll be there in November to get my DLC for Elin.

Yes free.
Size should be less than 1TB. When I downloaded mine it was I think around 700GB, with manuals, screenshots, soundtracks etc...
Maybe you can reduce it down to 500GB if you strip and keep just the essentials.

I'm a completionist so of course it'll be the 700GB. I wonder how long that'll take though. How did it take ya'll?

Ya'll just leave your computers on? This doesn't come in smaller installments that fuse together? And when a new version comes out do you have to do it all over again?

I always leave me computer on, last time I restarted it was 2-3 weeks ago, and that was just a restart, not shutdown...

I believe it's got an update feature where it downloads the new additions etc... though I don't use it since what's there is good enough for me.

Well, I have a Raspberry Pi box running Linux with a torrent client which is always on, so I don't have my main PC on all the time.

There's also the "lite" version which is just 5 GB but doesn't contain any games, only metadata. Then you can download the games you're interested in one by one. But that approach kinda defeats the purpose of such an "all you can eat" / "kitchen sink" collection. I like to just fire up the full collection, the LaunchBox frontend, and just browse. It has that kid in a candy store feeling—all DOS games available at your fingertips :)

You can grab the lite version's torrent from their website too (search for "lite" on the page):
https://www.retro-exo.com/exodos.html

I'm pretty sure you can update it by just downloading the difference, but you need to keep the original files you downloaded via the torrent. I haven't tried that yet, but I will soon (there's gonna be a major update in a few weeks).

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
Just to be super-duper in the clear on this: eXoDOS 6 is virus-checked, right?

Because I'm making a backup copy of it, and two games were flagged down for allegedly containing viruses ('Les Manley 1' and 'Sid & Al's Incredible Toons').

I've decided to allow them for now because I believe they're false positives, but a confirmation would be nice.
