I'm looking hard for the arrows that show you have more then 3 dialogue options to choose from. Needless to say, so far I haven't found any...

Todd's terrible humor? I'd rather watch a Steve Carrel adaptation of Family Guy.

"It's the enclave. They've spotted us! These guys are pretty though so I'm gonna pull out my Fatman. [Jedi Mind Trick]: Every kid wants one these under the Christmas tree!"

What are you talking about man? This is good humor. Todd's a genius!

But seriously, I smacked my forehead when I heard that line at the E3 demo.

More than 3 options? Heck, if there were always only two options but leading to genuinely different results from time to time, it would still be miles ahead of Oblivion and I guess of what Bethesda's planning now.

the people's faces look horrid beyond my wildest nightmares.

You're trying too hard. Seriously. They aren't that bad.

I hope you won't actually buy the game and support it with your money.

Why? I don't have some misguided sense that maybe Bethesda will go under and then the license will go back to the "real developers". If they make a game of Morrowind quality I will buy it without hesitation. I enjoyed Morrowind. Oblivion was pretty meh, but mainly because the setting wasn't nearly as interesting and that dragged down the dialogue and quests (What, demons invading? Heavens no!).

This setting is more interesting than Oblivion by the look of it, so exploration should be funner. Which is a big plus for me. And I also don't find VATS horrible. So I queue up an attack (after pausing and considering which action is best) and then watch the animations play out? Sounds pretty similar to turn based to me. At least I can choose not to do it against hordes of trash critters this time, so it probably won't be as annoying in those cases.

So if I like it, if it entertains me, I'm buying. It may not be Bloodlines but it isn't Rise of the Argonauts. :P

In fact I hope they make more money with this game than with Oblivion. Send them the message that people like original/different settings rather than happy-cliche fantasy land undergoing scary demon invasions. They seemed to be getting that message with Shivering Isles.

I meant to ask you whether or not you will first pirate the game to try it out, or will you buy it as soon as it hits the shelves, thus supporting Bethseda. I have no objections if people are buying the game after trying it out, but buying a game only to try it out and then realizing it sucks is something that should be avoided, especially in this case! Fallout is more than a game. It is a symbol of what RPGs should try to be. By everything we have seen so far, Bethcrap is destroying not only the genre, but the very foundations that have made RPGs so special and unique.

PS. And by everything I don't mean these screenshots with dialogs, which are still a huge improvement over Oblivion dialogs and to me are something that made me actually feel good about FO3, although you have to admit the writing is horrible.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
Actually, you should download this game millions of times illegally. Each illegal download means theft from Bethesda, so if you download it billions of times they will be bankrupt.

Somebody back these up, so Bethesda can't destroy them by making NMA puss out to lawsuits.

Not a chance. They have no legal basis for that. This issue is between them and a journalist who broke his NDA, we're not involved in it.

edit: Well, the game takes place in America, stupid. Therefore black people are "African American."

African American is not a "race" in any sense of the term, it's an ethno-cultural identity (horrible a term though that may be), and one tied to a geographic location at that. To separate "race" choices into the ethno-cultural one of African American on the one hand and Asian, Hispanic, Caucasian on the other might well be one of the most racist things I've ever seen in a video game.

I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
Seriously, that "African American" is a huge fuckup. Goddamit, Beth. *Think*

Two faces look copy + pasted from Oblivion.

Otherwise, it looks a lot better than I thought it would. Actual dialog screens, normal ghouls etc. All the people with guns are always in the same position when shooting, which means that there isn't much variation in animation, not that its a surprise.

Goddamn, man. If the picture is huge, then put it in a link like everyone else. Don't post it directly and fuck up the entire page.

Hmm, looks fairly decent, honestly. I'm keen to give it a try.

And cool, so I can make an avatar who looks like a human being now.

I admire your hope. It reminds me of myself during certain times back in the days of Oblivion. It will, however, lead only to despair.

I'm hoping at least this time, they'll get some flank for shitty graphics. It's long become the standard in first person graphics but still no shadows cast by statics/world in Bethesda games. Gameworld looks like garbage without such little shadows, with objects kind of floating on the surfaces. They've only been increasing polycount with the latest shaders with the same shitty old tech. Without those two, both this and Oblivion are as good as Morrowind. And this time, there is no speedtree to save face either.

They didn't get flank from NA media for violently shitty animations either, so don't expect them to get burned for no shadows. I bet that most of the so-called reviews won't even mention it.

Looks like they got a better build of facegen, maybe with the "make everything look like an agnosia nightmare" lines commented out.

Clearly we need to petition them to change all the races to match "African American". So "Asian-American", "Caucasian-American" and "Hispanic-American" would all need to be in there. Also for PC-related reasons we'd also need to have "Native-American".

The naming scheme is all sorts of fucked up. Caucasian includes hispanics, and is a buttfuck old term. Adding American to the end of everything does make sense, I doubt a green card would get your ass into a vault space. Also, they forgot the jewish race.

It should be even more of a slight to not download it at all. Since you don't find it worthy to play at all. I'll be in that group.

The African American thing is certainly pretty dumb. I'm not sure about racist, but it feels wrong.

In the UK, and I imagine many other non-US countries, if you're black, you're black, if you're white, you're white. Is African American supposed to cover all black people, or is it referring to a specific group? The latter I could at least stomach, but then it begs the question why can't you be black without being african and american?

Fair enough. I prefer not to pirate a game, but I've been bitten by buying a game without playing the demo first too many times now, I'm wary. Oblivion almost got me, but my computer was too crap at the time to play it. By the time I had a decent machine I had realized it wasn't great and just borrowed a copy from a mate.

So, to answer your question, since I believe there won't be a demo of F3, nah, won't buy it until I know it is alright. Either by acquiring a pirate copy or a friend's disk.

Well, it's not great. But I don't remember the writing for Might and Magic 6 as being spectacular and yet I enjoyed that. I don't think this is worse, honestly. It looks like it might be fun without being, you know, a memorable classic. Which I'm fine with, I don't consider that to be destroying the genre, there have been plenty of RPGs like that which have given me entertainment.

I do understand where you guys are coming from however, seeing a favorite series altered heavily. I imagine I'd grind my teeth if someone took the Thief license and turned it into an action-combat game, and I disliked what they did to Dues Ex 2. But, since I don't have the same attachment, I'm just going to take it for what it is rather than what it "could have been".
