Is it me or Fallout 3 looks more and more like a Mel Brooks movie ?

I wouldn't be surprised if Chuck Cuevas will be on the credits list.

Not that I intend to find out.

Leslie Niesen would have been more appropriate.
Funny or not, I don't remember Fallout to be goofy at any time, except for the Alien UFO easter egg maybe.

Bethesda totally don't get the Fallout humour.

Portable nuclear shelters looking like phoneboxes isn't Fallout humour. There's nothing Fallout about it. Fallout is a 1950s look of the future, its retro-futurism. Nuclear shelter phoneboxes don't fit in with that, they weren't in either of the prior two games (I don't consider Tactics or BoS to be proper installments of the series) and they have no place in Fallout 3 either.

It's just like this stupid nuclear catapult gun, it's something invented by Bethesda and all of the retarded game journalists immediately say its typical traditional Fallout when it ISN'T.

I suppose what I mainly don't understand is why they still claim this is an RPG. Their main audience prefers FPS games to RPGs... just take a look at Gamespot or the Bethesda forums, where people who like Oblivion and F3 are wetting themselves over Halo 3 and Gears of War. They know the games they make now are not proper RPGs, they know (despite the retard journalists telling them otherwise) that their games are not hallmarks of choice and consequence.

My point is, why must they continue the facade of declaring Fallout 3 to be an RPG when from all the previews we've seen so far, it is evidently not? To be honest I don't think a game where the emphasis is placed in combat and BIG GUNZ can be rightly called an RPG. Do they really have so much contempt for RPG fans that they must continue to lie?

If they came out tomorrow and said, 'Ok, ok, Fallout 3 is a first-person-shooter.' They wouldn't lose any of their fanbase; a Fallout FPS is what their fanbase wants.

What about Chuck Norris?
I mean... it would totally fit with the phone thing.

Maybe you can order plane tickets in there...

Pong is also turn-based

Liar. It's real-time with pause. In pause-mode, you can go drink a cup of tea to restore your lifepoints...

I'm depressed. Someone give me a cookie...please.

It takes skills and dedication to develop stupidity to such epic levels.
I don't usually visit any gaming media sites, but I've been reading through the shitstorm of previews and articles about FO3 that have come out over the past couple days and I've been struck by how insanely moronic the majority of the writers seem to be. I don't know how you and the other news-posters can monitor this drivel constantly and not be driven mad; it's almost as bad as surfing the ESF.
agreed -_-

BTW, I have three interesting (or not) articles concerning the "journalism" we have in my site (see the sig).

:P One of the is related to this news, actually...

So how does the hierarchy of gaming journalists work you ask? Well you didn't, but let's pretend you did. First of all, picture this guy:

...but instead of cigars, you have the cocks of developers. I know I once lent my gnarled member to the cause. You are then assigned your ranking, and expected to perform accordingly. It's not uncommon for the most eager of aspirants to remove portions of their brain in order to widen their gaping maw to be more "accomodating".

I don't get this. If turn-based is so trendy and cool it's worthy to pretend your new game is turn-based, why not make a real turn-based game?

LOL@ Phone booths. They can't be that stupid, can they?

How do you get a job at a games magazine/website and not know what turn-based is? Seriously?

One thing I like about the writers is how often they claim to be huge and long term fans of <game> but you never see them at the fan sites and they never understand or agree with the fans or have great knowledge of the games they claim to worship.

Den of stinking evil.
I'm not sure I understand the whole VATS v. real-time thing...
If you get all your action points at once and spend the second half of combat in real-time while they regenerate then the system is a joke. It's just a gimick.
On the other hand, if it gives you a few seconds worth of points to use and then allows the enemy the equivalant "real-time" while your action points recharge I think it's close to a bonofide turn based system. The game handles the timing and divies out the actions. For me this would be the ideal.
The third option, which seems to be what Fallout 3 is using, would be some sort of take a turn at will system (real-time). You can either pause the game to attack and then dance around until you get enough points to do it again or get fed up with the pause/dance BS and play the game in real time.
Is this it?

Not only writers, devs too. Then they say rat scorpions, call bloody mess a perk and mispell stimpak, adding a C to it... Great fans I say...

No. Everything happens in real time. EVERYTHING. You queue your actions, you don't perform them in pause mod. If you DID perform them in pause mode, then THAT would be intersting if well applied (hell, if they'd let you move in pause mode, I could call that innovative, and if it was point and click, it would probably be a hell of a system!).

Bethesda scores yet again.

At one point we set one of the exploding nuclear cars on fire and then hopped into a portable nuclear shelter (which costs a quarter to use and looks like a phone booth) to avoid the blast

I think I have it figured out, Since Fallout was originally intended to use GURPS, the folks at Beth decided to use the logic of Toon for F3

This has all gotta be one big joke, surely. I mean, no way. Bethesda are retarded but this is a "Retards of the Universe" level of retardedness.

It's almost as if they are completely full of shit.

One would think "playing video games" would have been on the resume to get their job in the first place.
