There is no inherent superiority of any combat implementation. And fallout 1/2 is, case in point, are good examples of that. As both have a somewhat bad and uninteresting combat. Whereas, let's say BG2, has better, realtime combat.

Jamming? With guns being easy to find and easier to fix? And where those retards defending :bounce: over F3 came from? If I want a decent shooter with story line and post ITZ feel I play CoD 4; F3 is shit not only as RPG but as FPS too.

you'd also get appropriate reactions in conversations in fallout 1 & 2

Almost makes me want to put INT back into Shelter.
do eeeet

Unfortunately I think this is an attribute that needs to go away, because nobody really plays with low int (crap, forum upgrade destroyed poll results ) ... and because high INT is just a stupid "win" button.
sure... on the first playthrough i usually take high int, i do try out low int characters on subsequent playthroughs, though. adds to replayability.

It's really hard to spot the shitposter shihonage. What's next. Arguing with Volourn?
Are you calling me the shitposter? Because I haven't been doing that in this thread. I have been arguing with a willfully-blind grognard though.

Man, you are reacting like I insulted your mother. It's called videogames, and if you are a grown man getting your panties in a twist over them, you should seek help.

Ah, the old "you are crazy if you take video games seriously". What can I say, you win.

No really, that's gotta be one of the stupidest complaints I've ever heard about any game,

Yes, complaining about immersion and writing when the game (or at least its fanboys) claims to be immersive and have good writing is stupid.
And it was just one example right at the start. That's why I mentioned it. Because it hits you right from the start with its stupidity (the whole dialog with the doctor is stupid, not only the sex part)
Maybe you want more examples, though? Or all of them are stupid just because I'm an immersion fag if I complain about them?
And get it through your head, fucktard. I was replying to the "LOLOL GAEM HAS GOOD WRITING" posts to show an example of how the writing isn't actually good. I wasn't whining randomly that the game isn't "immersive" for me.

Fallout 3 is fucking awful. The textures are awful, the animations are awful, the acting is awful, the writing is awful, the shooting is awful (which is a huge downfall considering Fallout 3 isn't an RPG), the guns sound weird (pistols don't sound like pistols), its buggy, there's literally no Fallout lore outside of The Brotherhood & Set the World on Fire, there's no humor or color (while I understand its an apocalypse, but Fallout 3 is literally just brown and gray), the decisions are arbitrary (it always dissolves in to "shoot everything" anyways), the level scaling removes the need for role-playing, & the stats feel "last minute" (I believe Menckenstein provided a good example).

New Vegas suffered from engine issues but it kept true to the lore, the writing is better, there's no more level scaling, the stats have meaning, you can get out of situations with conversations, there's color & humor, & the faction system adds a lot; as for the bugs, the only bugs I've had is a radscorpion getting stuck in the ground, getting stuck in the environment 2 times (though in Fallout 3, it happened to me constantly), & freezing on me 2 times.

Bethesda should hand the Fallout IP over to the brilliant guys at Obsidian and let them self publish Fallout games so A: bug testing considering Obsidian's bugs are the result of publishers rushing them and making them use shitty engines (Bethesda) & B: we would get a turn based, party based ("companions" =/= actual party members), isometric RPG since that's clearly what Obsidian wants to make but publishers won't let them and use the bullshit excuse of "because it won't appeal to everyone".

Too bad that'll never happen... :(

Nice summary though!

yeah, fallout 3 is such a fucking chore to play with the dumb slowmo shooting speeds. i remember going through the first bit of the game with the hunting rifle and watching people just move out of the way of my shots ffs

what was that drug that made everything slow down in NV? i had the perks and traits that increased chem length coz i was a hard fiend, broke the game

Oh FFS, I see that the butthurt over F3 is still strong. Just get over it, Fallout is dead, better hope for a completely new franchise, or that Fargo will deliver with W2. Because you can bet any money that with F4 bethdesda won't even pretend to try to appeal to fans of the original by having fallouty references like "Nuka Cola" and "Vaults". Why should they, their new consolefag audience is more than enough to bathe them in precious metals.

What are you talking about, Fargo is our only hope, nobody except him and indies wants to make isometric turnbased crpgs... :( "Big" developers and publisher will probably never make games like that anymore...

Truthfully, I never really felt that a third Fallout game was "right" or necessary for the advancement of the series (or genre as a whole). New Vegas provided some refreshing glances over the state of the wasteland after FO1/2 and tied up a few loose ends, but I think that it's just not in the nature of this sort of series to continue on forever. Don't mention Van Buren either as I never really liked the feel of that either. Fallout 1 (2 to a lesser degree) is an exceptional game that stands on its own merits, and it's indicative of an entire era of CRPGs. Fallout NV is about as close to "perfect" as you can get in the modern age whilst playing by the rules set by an impassive, mass-market multiplatform publisher like Bethesda.

Bethesda will probably resolve to treat Fallout like TES - that is, a series that just "has" to have installment after installment because it does. Hell, I'm eager to see if they'll even continue to honor the SPECIAL ruleset in FO4 - now that they're touting the "elegant simplicity" of Skyrim's nonexistant ruleset, it would probably upset a lot of TES fans from the Daggerfall/Morrowind camp if they realized Bethesda can still do things like attributes and skill checks but simply choose not to for their main series. SEAL, perhaps? Strength, Energy, Agility, Loquaciousness. Skills will be "MELEE" and "GUNS."

At this point I'm more interested in what becomes of Fargo and Wasteland 2. Fallout was never meant to go on for as long as it has. And the longer it continues to do so, the more errant fanservice and retro-futuristic Nuka-Cola circlejerking is introduced into the fanbase with every installment.

i dont want them to do away with it completely ala skyrim, but i do wish it would be slightly revamped. the skill cap for the gamebryo fallout games sucked, and half the attributes felt totally pointless

My main problem with Fallout universe is that every new game goes little further in the future so at one point wasteland will cease being exactly that. While I see the reason of continuation of of the games I would prefer that games are set in the same time but following different characters in other parts of the country.

I don't have a problem with Fallout universe, except that Bethesda is now owning and making Fallouts. :troll:

There are many ways for Fallout Wastes to remain Wastes, so no problem there. Problem is it's a console FPS (and a bad one I might add) and has almost nothing to do with earlier Fallouts. Well New Vegas was nice story wise, but the horrible engine ohhhhhh. :hearnoevil:
