Holy shit, I didn't realize it's so bad really. I've watched videos but this texture pop-in is something new for me. People actually pay real money for this...

Same as Fallout 4. There, sometimes the game doesn't replace the far LOD textures. That gets difficult if you walk on an elevated highway 30 meters above ground with holes in it that the LOD model doesn't show.

My prediction which I wrote in the NMS thread (so Im moving it here for posterity) is that F76 will do fine in the long term.

It will be a slow burn, and just like the NMS/Destiny 2 debacles, given enough time you will start to see the apologists swing popular opinion. Currently its trendy to hate the game and youtubers/journalists are like sheeple/sharks (sharkles?) that swarm when they smell blood. But you can already see the groundwork being set by guys like CohnCarnage as I linked earlier. He is "having fun playing the game", and its problems are only due to bugs and a crappy launch.

For evidence just look at NMS, they "fixed" the game when they launched "Next" and youtube went into orgasmic hysteria about how great the game is now. Even though the only thing of value they added is multiplayer. The actual game loops are still shitty, tedious, grinding for the sake of grinding in an infinite universe that all looks exactly the same. But you can do it with friends so thats enough to get the morans flocking back to NMS.

Clearly Bethesda did underestimate how much half assery they can get away with on launching a new game, surprisingly you cant just slap multiplayer/co op onto a hollow shell and expect it to do well. But I will bet in a years time when they bring out their version of the "Next" dlc, patch whatever, we will see this exact same apologist process begin.

I agree. We'll start seeing '10 REASONS WHY FALLOUT 76 IS THE BEST FALLOUT' pretty soon.

At the very least I think we'll see '10 REASONS WHY FALLOUT 76 ISN'T AS BAD AS YOU THINK' appear on the major gaming review sites.

It will soon become trendy and cool to like the game rather than hate it.

All this hate for Fallout 76 has me wanting to buy the game. It looks alright. All these e-celebs circlejerking each other does the exact opposite of what they intend.

Wow everyone is talking about how bad the game is. It must be secretly good - let me buy it.
What's it like being contrarian to the point of retardation?

I have a sneaky feeling most of the people hating on this game haven't even played it -- they just watched some youtube e-celeb faggot and decided to parrot their opinion.

I have seen this cycle happen with a lot of games. A game comes out, people either piss on it or are not very enthused about the game, several videos and articles come out criticizing the game. Then some years later, you see videos and articles suddenly defend the game, like it was much better than people made it out to be. A lot of the times it's just for views or clicks, just to be controversial.

Or it's because countless people parroted each-other's opinion without actually playing the game because it was the current cool thing to do ..... then someone that was unbiased played the game and found out it wasn't as bad as it was circlejerked to be.

When you have IGN, fucking IGN, give a 5/10, which in their scale it might as well be a 1/10, you know something is wrong. Same for Gamespot giving it 4/10. This is more than "people parroting other people's opinions". When you have sites that are known to give ridiculous ratings to a lot of games rate your game so low, something is up.

What, are now IGN and Gamespot parroting other people's opinions? These sites are known for some of the most controversial reviews in the internet.

You're going to make a mistake here, but I see no point in trying to dissuade you. Might be how you prefer to learn.

IGN and Gamespot are not immune to parroting popular opinion, especially when they risk looking like complete jokes (which they are). Just look at some of their 10/10 titles: Witcher 3, Undertale, Last of Us, etc. If IGN gives something a 5 I guarantee you it's probably closer to a 7 or 8... and the opposite is true as well; if they give something a 10 it's probably closer to a 5 or 6. When RPGCodex starts agreeing with IGN there's a huge fucking problem. You should feel ashamed for even entertaining the idea.

Yes, but the problem isn't with RPGCodex or (surprisingly) IGN in this case.

Still, continue. I look forward to you telling us all about how not-bad F76 is.

It's not just Gamespot and IGN.

You have to be extremely naive to even think people are just parroting other people's opinions at this point when you have this many sites heavily criticizing the game.

But by all means, buy the game. No one's stopping you.

I'm not actually going to buy this game. I just know Reddit circlejerking when I see it. Out of principle I refuse to pay more than $20 for a video game.

Yes, since a lot of people say something it must be true!

That wasn't even your point. You were saying that people were just parroting each other's opinions, now you moved on to "if this many people say it's like that, then it's true". Two completely different things.
