I don't get it, why is blowing JE considered a bad thing? He's a good looking dude. Better than what most of you guys could pull on the average Saturday night.

im sure he's one of those dudes that fart while you are doing it, and then slabs a 20 dollar bill on the cum on your face and leaves you to cry in shame.

The real concern is whether Obsidian knows how to make a game with challenging combat. And I mean the whole game, Obsidian, not just the last boss fight.

The things we've seen so far say 'no'.

I'll just repost this:

Who's willing to bet that New Vegas will be criticised for having crappy animations, a shoddy engine, bad AI, ugly models, half-assed combat mechanics etc.?

Not me.

I bet.
I also bet Obsidian will receive shit from journalists for "well, they're not as good as bethesda".

I assume it was "we" as in multi headed dick. I don't think there is "i" there.

Bethesda lights up the Codex once again!
This time in a slightly more positive note than at the announcement of F3.
And I predict a slightly more positive outcome.

It won't be Oblivion with guns, but Fallout in first person/realtime.

Lol @ "we".

Lol @ your reading comprehension skills. Are you implying that you don't care?

Why the hell do we even care, then?

Because it might have good story, writing, dialogues and C&C?

Too bad the gameplay will be tainted by Bethesda's questionable design decisions, which Obsidian's apparently forced to follow.
Unless FPP, VATS and simplified SPECIAL are to be thrown out the window, the game will inherit all of F3's flaws.

I assume it was "we" as in multi headed dick.

Jealousy is a natural human emotion, don't feel bad about it.

FPP isn't a flaw, unless you are prepared to claim that Bloodlines and Gothic sucked because they weren't isometric. I prefer isometric view, but that's a different story.

VATS was well designed, but too easy. The only issue with VATS was that it was basically a cheat mode, but that's the easiest thing to fix. Remove insane to hit penalties from the enemies and you're half way there. Again, I prefer turn-based, but well done VATS is more entertaining than a straight shooter.

Simplified SPECIAL should be easy to tweak. A modder can do it, so even if Bethesda says no to such tweaks, Obsidian can do a small unofficial mods for the hardcore crowd.

I'm implying that I find using the word 'we' funny. As if we're an army working together to strike back.

And to be honest, I don't really care about the whole deal. I used to, I admit. But not anymore, games just aren't appealing anymore to me (bar a few).

Last time I checked, Bloodlines and Gothic did not have a GURPS-inspired ruleset - Fallout, being a game strongly tied to the pen-and-paper experience featured an 'isometric' (trimetric, to be more precise) view of the world for a reason. Yes, I'm referring to turn-based combat system, which works especially nicely with the top-down perspective.

There's a solution to this problem, however - making the game fully playable in third person, at least, which would in turn allow for decent implementation of TB combat.

VATS was well designed, but too easy. The only issue with VATS was that it was basically a cheat mode, but that's the easiest thing to fix. VATS goes against the design philosophy which led to the creation of the Fallout series in the first place.
The option to enable the TB mode should be there. It's doable, it's something that can be achieved. Should Obsidian implement it, you'll never see me complaining again.
Will they have the courage to set things right? The decision lies in their hands.

Turn-based would only be an improvement if you had a party to control. I don't think Fallout should be a party-based RPG anyway.

First person/RT is fine, "special" bullet time mode is OK but it shouldn't be linked to Agility but your skill with whichever weapon you're using (maybe perks). So yes, VATS needs to be nerfed, and the system rebalanced (which can be done, there are mods that do it for Fallout 3 already) and it will be fine.

If you want turn-based isometric squad tactics you can play Fallout: Tactics, that's what it's there fore.

Sawyer was a lead designer on NWN2 OC. I can't fucking believe they are letting him near Fallout. A shame.

I think the lead designer during most of the project was a guy who went to work at Bioware almost at the end of the development cycle. Sawyer received the unpleasant task of getting something they could at least ship.

Edit: Ferret Baudoin was the name.

Oh happy day

You may just get that.

Educate yourself, dumbfuck:

NWN2 would've been a far better product had Sawyer been in charge since Day 1, rather than having the unfortunate job of cleaning up a mess and getting it ready to ship.

I realize you have absolutely no idea how software development of any sort works, but it would be fantastic if you could realize that too.

That seems like a silly distinction in light of the fact that Bloodlines was based on a P&P game that featured TB combat.

And it's also silly to suggest that any dev should be forced to strictly adhere to the design docs of a >10 year old game that they didn't develop. This isn't even a remake of FO1. They shouldn't waste their time with TB. That isn't the system that they've been handed, and they've shown no interest in implementing that style in any of their games.

When Skyway posts a "fact" anyone who has been here long enough knows to just LOL and ignore it.

Helll Ultima VII had shitty, shitty combat. But the good writing and quests and exploration still make it a great game.

Looking forward to this. I just hope I don't have to own Fallout 3, because I still refuse to play/buy that piece of shit, or any Zenimax game. Except for this one.

And your point is? Bloodlines wasn't meant to be a game that emulates the p&p mechanics. Fallout, on the other hand...

And it's also silly to suggest that any dev should be forced to strictly adhere to the design docs of a >10 year old game that they didn't develop.

Why, has the concept become outdated in your humble opinion? You're right, they should stick to Beth's ingenious vision.

They shouldn't waste their time with TB.

Todd, is that you?
