Decided to give the mod a shot after hearing all about it. I am genuinely baffled that a team spent so long working on a project that is so heavily focused on the single-worst aspect of the game. And the best thing is they apparently did not build their game around balancing to any one of the hugely popular gameplay overhaul mods that at least make the combat somewhat tolerabe. Got as far as the tank escort quest before stopping.

40gb download for this. Damn.

Oh man, this really is a jumbled miss-match of shit ideas flung at a wall and not giving a shit about what stuck. If it wasn't the fantasy Unity asset monsters, the Call of Duty NCR main quest or the ''quirky'' meta writing then this pushes it to new levels. Going to a space station to fight robots and a NOT-Frank Horrigan look-a-like that ends with an encounter with NOT Scarecrow. Wasn't enough to copy COD, now they're taking shit straight out of Batman.

Though I should clarify, I don't know the context to any of this aside from DeepOceans descriptions of the NCR playthrough but I don't give a shit. I've already made up my mind that this mod is a trainwreck as soon as I saw the Unity asset basilisks.

Speededit: There are dozens of games and other media that does the same thing, but the Batman Arkham games was the first thing that came to my mind as soon as I saw it.

Why would you even go to Spehss in a post apoc?

God, you can really see the lack of creativity. Here I thought that New California was bad. I have a good friend from Pakistan who asked me why mods and games from the West are so terrible now. I think the reason why, and any of you feel free to disagree or rate my comments as shit, is because Western culture no longer encourages creativity or thought. Our current culture just wants us to consume. Most "art" isn't art. It is either fetishistic garbage that is suppose to destroy the concept of what is considered normal by most average people or is propaganda. Look at the shit that is given awards by the elites, TLoU2 and Cuties. Both being degenerate and fetishistic propaganda that destroys the concept of what is considered normal. This was also further exacerbated by Trump's presidency and Brexit. Everything from the past, from Lord of the Rings, OG Star Wars or even old fairy tales and books were considered "problematic" and had to be purged or rewritten. We have to turn any outlet of creativity and thought into a vehicle for propaganda to make sure we recondition people so a president like Trump will never set foot in the White House again or Brexit never happens again because Trump and Brexit supporters are fascist. So we need to use fascism to fight fascism. Great Logic.
Because of this, most people now get their ideas from whatever pop culture crap they consume. People no longer come up with their own ideas either because they are afraid that they will get torn apart by Twitter freak shows or is because their mind is consumerist mush. I mean, look at the endless Steven Universe "art" that plagues the internet or pop culture. No creativity, no thought.
I honestly can not be surprised with how The Frontier came out. It is clear that the mod author/s is/are both a degenerate fetishist and never had a original thought in his/their lives.

On my potato that runs F:NV on max I often have 2 FPS. It's also not that good in terms of writing. The Autumn leaves mod was way interesting.

I have to wonder, did the mod authors have any kind of quality control? Someone like a "lore master" who would have been there to tell them "No, don't add that. It isn't lore friendly" or "It may be best to keep your fetish in check"? This mod really does feel like it combines the worst aspects of first time modders. The "Rule of Cool" mentality of just adding a bunch of crap that you think is cool but makes no sense or fits in with the world or lore. The lack of creativity of just rehashing crap that you consumed from other media. The "We are so meta like Kojima" dialogue. I regret not telling the mod authors how bad their notes and ideas were when I first read the cliff notes all those years ago. Then again, 23 year old me was way too kind and optimistic while 30 year old me is a cold hearted, jaded cunt who is not afraid to tell it like it is. Sometimes telling white lies leads to a bunch of failure. Lesson learned.

I imagine most of these people are too sensitive and insane for that. If someone told them their idea wasn't good enough, they'd throw a tantrum and leave the project. Getting it done requires them to accept any and all ideas.

As someone who is both a amateur modder and writer I always tell people to please give me any kind of criticism with hopes that I will improve with each new project I work on. I always take any criticism I receive to heart and reflect on how I can improve. I used to believe that all writers and artists do that. I guess not with today's snowflake culture. It's "Our ideas are perfect! You're just stupid and don't get it!" mentality with these people. Such a shame.

We went from mods that had dialogue like this:
And that was in the infancy of FNV modding. While The Frontier was marketed (yes, I will use that word) as be all end all of all collective new vegas modding experience, including such experts as weijiesen and Xillandro. I wonder if they saw the damage from juvenile MW2-cocksucking writing coming.

Someguy2000's mods also came out before social justice got big in the gaming scene. Before the dark times. Now we have pronoun mods for Skyrim.
:negative:

What is funny is that he will tell people that he would get complaints from people saying that his mods were too violent and too full of rape. His response was: "Motherfuckers! This is an M rated game! Play something else!"
The exact kind of response one should tell to pearl clutching overly sensitive freaks.

Eh. I ignored the main questlines to just explore with two companions and do sidequests . I haven't hit any showstopping bugs. They seemingly added every custom weapon and chem/consumable from the Nexus, with no real point. I got addicted to one of the new ones, and it wasn't recognized by the doc to cure. Getting addicted to a regular one corrected this. The mods fucked with the lightmaps for a creepy effect, which makes exploration, particularly indoors a real chore. The occult tower quest is retarded and lifted straight from the F4 quarry one. Pass a few speech checks and you can bang the purple haired medic in the base. If you've Lot, the black dude, in tow, he's standing there when you've finished like he was involved as either the bull or the other half of the spitroast. The wendigos are bullet sponges and need limb hits to kill. This is one of the load screen hints. My build had wasted a perk on 'Cowboy'. I'm not sure if all the custom weapons function with 'Grunt' as they should. The level design and voiceacting is pretty good by fanmod standards.

This is what Im going to check out, there is no real level design wahtsoever on the NCR main quest, just badly designed CoD scripted nonsense on top of Gamebryo. Did you find a bigger settlement? So far, I only found Goose Hollow that was very meh and far from being enough to pay back the time I spent on Gamebryo shooting. Even the New Vegas tutorial town of Goodsprings have more tought put on it than this shit.

Did you reach Junkflea? I mean, shit, if those cringy snake people kept on their bunker where they can be safely ignored but nope, every time I see one of those around, I remember how big tards the modders of this thing are. I'm really losing my patience to actually see content that isnt shit or heavily compromised by tardation.

Fallout game in Portland? At least Fallout 3 and 4 were still sci-fi games. This seems just like Vavra for Czech in KCD or Acid Wizards for Poland in Darkwood. Can be good but It will be a documentary.

Nah. Just following map triangles around downtown. Did the sniper and plague quests. Some of Lot's and now the reporter stuff.

There's a tunnel system starting at a Metro leading to an underground power plant of sorts. Again, the dark map lighting makes it a real pain to get around and game brightness in settings is useless. They handwave the lizard people as being sourced from the Unity. Whatever.

Seriously though
Is the mod any good?
It at least seems more original than Beth Fallout's (then again that's far from a high bar)
Well, if you want a New Vegas mod, this isnt one. Yeah, it uses the framework of New vegas and its assets but it is closer to something like Fallout 3 than New Vegas so all the things you liked on New Vegas, they arent here. Sure, there are three main campaigns but as I said before, the NCR campaign at least is extremely popamolified, so dont expect complex RPG behavior and interactions or even good gameplay beyond some basic stuff like you see on Fallout 3. This is Modern Warfare in Gamebryo designed by modders, that alone is enough to know what to expect.

Did you like operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta on Fallout 3? If yes, you gonna get ALOT of that shit. However, we are talking modders here, so expect high levels of jank even if your expectations are below zero on Mothership Zeta levels, they used asset store enemies everywhere with barely any care about their deployment. At this point, if you are truly desperate for this base level Bethesda style exploration and collecting shit on a post apocalyptic landscape... it is better to just install a mod to unfuck a little Fallout 3 combat and play Fallout 3 instead of this.

Generally speaking, total conversion mods are always a bloated mess of conflicting ideas and this one isnt different but on contrary to mods like Fallout 2 mods, where you see the modders are actually trying to bring incline even if they arent on many cases able to deliver. Here, their vision was to turn New Vegas into worse popamole with less features, that is on top of the usual modder mess. They were agents of decline while using New Vegas name and themes to promote their mod but this isnt New Vegas, it is asset flipped Fallout 3.

What is worse is all the people who keep commenting how these low quality mods are "better" then Bethesda. Like Bethesda is shit but who ever unironically says this shit, is a tool that is only jumping on the bandwagon. The same people who would get on their knees and suck Beth's dick again after they release another shallow mediocre game like skyrim.

Play it like you would watch a movie like Sharknado or Birdemic and you will have a good time. Not gonna lie, it growns on you once you accept you are playing a bunch of autistic ideas throw together by modders who just wanted to make something fun and unique. Say what you will about The Frontier, its definitely not bland or forgettable.
