Is it me or does it look a lil bit blurry?
Here's a comparison between fheroes2 (left) and GOLD version (right):

On my main PC I just run it with standard integer scaling at either 640x480 or 800x600 and looks super nice and not blurry at all?

I still probably prefer running it in native res on my old 1024x768 screen the most.

It looks nicer in widescreen, but it didn't went any sharper than in GOLD version. I've already tried different resolutions, but it does not do the trick. It's not a big deal, I still enjoy it.
I wonder, is there any way to use a different scaler (shader?). The default one looks a bit blurry for me.

This is 1024x768 windowed mode. Is it me or does it look a lil bit blurry?

For the sharpest image select an integer resolution that fits into your display, like 960x480. Then locate fheroes2.cfg and change to "nearest" filtering in the bottom of the file from "linear" when opening it with a text editor. Find the fheroes.cfg in ``%appdata%/fheroes2`` or by right clicking a map file or a save game within the app to view the location.

fheroes2 1.1.3 has arrived

Dear players and fans of the fheroes2 project!

We’re excited to announce the release of version 1.1.3 of the fheroes2 engine! A significant portion of this update focused on code refinement and preparing for future changes. However, we’ve also introduced key updates to the Editor, improved AI behavior, and made several UI and translation enhancements.

The Editor now supports translations, allowing map creators to design maps in any language supported by the engine. Unlike the original maps, fh2m maps will display all characters correctly, no matter which language you choose to play in. We’ve also addressed several bugs and improved various UI elements within the Editor.

AI improvements include enhanced pathfinding while using the Dimension Door spell, and faster, smarter decision-making on the Adventure Map. The AI’s overall performance has been significantly optimized, resulting in quicker, more intelligent actions.

In battles, players can now resurrect overlapping monsters, adding more flexibility to combat—an improvement over the original game. Additionally, we’ve refined various UI elements, such as the Hourglass animation, fixed rendering issues in No Interface mode, and further expanded translation support for the engine. Over 30 issues have been resolved since the last release.

Played.
Nice touch the Quick Battle version. It will be useful for modding and testing balance.
When modding and campagn maker will be out? Original didn't have those (could be modded a little with hex editor)

Music has been mixed? Not just fheroes2 but more recent version of homm2 too.
There was a "desert song" shared by barbarian and wizard that now Is played by knight.
Former knight music Is played by warlock.
Barbarian music Is the funeral march that was played for necromancer.
Necromancer has the former music or warlock.
Sorceress music in unchanged but wizard share the music with them.

Btw why have always been 5 musics for 6 factions?

Version 1.1.4 is here!

Dear supporters and fans of Heroes of Might and Magic 2!

We are thrilled to be back on track with monthly releases and excited to announce fheroes2 version 1.1.4! Building on the work of our previous release, this update focuses on refining the code and preparing for significant future enhancements. But we still have plenty of exciting updates to share with you.

This release includes important changes to the game’s passability rules. The team has fixed several places where passability was incorrectly set for certain objects. These improvements bring the logic even closer to the original game and may even unblock specific scenarios during gameplay. Please note: to apply these changes, you’ll need to start a new game on the same map.

We constantly improve the overall gaming experience. In this release, we have added a small but valuable feature for map creators and touchscreen users: Virtual Numpad support. You can now input desired numbers without having to endlessly click on arrows - making the process much smoother and more intuitive.

This update also brings enhancements to the AI. We have improved the logic for monsters evading attacks, refined the retreat behavior for archers, and fixed an issue with incorrectly estimated attack values for hypnotized monsters. These incremental improvements make the AI smarter without compromising performance or logic.

As we look to the future, we are laying the groundwork for a major expansion. With the help of an artist, this release introduces a new variant of the Lean-To object, marking the beginning of new content additions.

The upcoming Resurrection expansion, based on a future campaign, requires not only development work but also significant contributions from artists, UX designers, composers, and map creators. To move forward with this, we will be updating our documentation in the coming weeks to outline clear tasks and goals. This effort will help drive the project forward and provide an even better experience for players. If you are interested in contributing or collaborating, we encourage you to reach out to us on social media.

Thank you so much for your continued support. We hope you enjoy the latest version of the engine!
