It has plenty more features than wow and everything else that is remotely similar is way better. The ignorance lol and all to be a contrarian retard.
I played this game up to level 48 as Black Mage and it was really fucking boring. Maybe expansions make it better, can't know that, but the amount of delivery quests, distance I have to travel to complete those quests, combined with a subpar main quest made me give up.
It's an MMORPG designed for people who don't like RPGs.I played this game up to level 48 as Black Mage and it was really fucking boring. Its extremely railroaded , some would say its a prison. First part is super super slow and plot only get interesting by the end , it improves during next expansions(dont expect too much) but its definitely designed to make you waste the most time possible. Too many cinematics and too little gameplay. However the gameplay part is good when you start doing dungeons and raids, at least for me. When playing a tank its much more playable than something ike ESO, easy to taunt, full aoe to drag everything to you, easy to position yourself. Not playing with friends i dont have any there , but its decent enough.I played this game up to level 48 as Black Mage and it was really fucking boring. Becdause is designed also as Jrpg however there is a lot of combat out there and many many dungeon raids and trials to unlock. They are completely separate from the main storyline and are worth it for the challenge and loot alone. I would not say fetch quests. I had like immensely more fetch quests in wow honestly. Frankly, i enjoy the storyline which is good nothing special in ARR but goes in a crescendo from heavenward on. The stuff that you can play in this game is varied also there is not a single definition of endgame. Its extremely railroaded , some would say its a prison. coomer game for people who want to spend all day ERPing and playing virtual dressupit's a shit late-era WoW clone, which is the worst possible WoW clone. All of the classes except for blue mage are absolutely terrible because "MUH BALANSE!!!!" Added bonus of having one of the ABSOLUTE WORST communities in any MMO ever.
"nooo you didn't play it long enough to get to the good part!"
fuck off, it's shit
I'd say this game is as much of an "RPG" as the typical EA game with tacked on leveling mechanics tbh.
Can't really recommend it honestly unless you're looking for a popamole themepark MMO resembling late-era WoW with all the decline that implies(e.g., no real character customization, attributes/stats dead simple, races that don't matter, etc.,) Alternatively, good game to play if you're looking for an easy way to get repetitive wrist strain injury or really enjoy playing "stay out of the colored areas on the ground"
Yes, it's very polished, and the crafting system is unique and good. But it's not enough to carry the game.
I already know the ffxivtards will come running and screaming about how "you haven't played it for 1500 hours yet! you can't judge it!", yea well, play with deez nutz for 1500 hours you fucking weebs.

and one area it really failed at despite being story-heavy is that all of your choices mean absolutely nothing. Just pick random choices, they all have the same exact result. You're being railroaded the entire time, grab some popcorn.

This is more or less where I burned out too. I got to the last dungeon of Stormblood and was like y'know what? Fuck this. Didn't get to try Shadowbringers, despite picking it up. I hate stupid JRPG battles that make you fight then force you to lose or cutscene lose and Stormblood does it all the time with that faggy gaylord anime guy.The base game is a slog, but the Heavensward was indeed good.
Got tired of the game after completing the stormblood main storyline and i don't feel like ever coming back.
And yet many forget ffXIV has actually 1 only furry race. The MMO with the most furry races is actually one of those that the haters shill for.takes all sorts to maintain a free minded capitalist society. even furrieswomen?i agree. beautiful women in media is very problematiccoomer game for people who want to spend all day ERPing and playing virtual dressup

Wow has Tauren, Worgen, Vulpera, Pandaren now thanks to dragonflight they have a scaly race and what it worse is those races look based on Furry fanfiction in deviant art.
FF14: Male Hrothgar.
I would not say it dosn't succeed at either considering the huge playerbase and people that loves the game. On the graphics of the game i agree it may look dated but honestly in a mmo graphics is the last thing i watch. The problem with FFXIV is that it tries to be a singleplayer JRPG and an MMO, and doesn't succeed at either.
As an MMO, access to almost all content and classes is gated behind progressing through the 400+ hour long story, and the story is almost entirely singleplayer. The vast majority of your time progressing through the story is spent talking to NPCs, running to the next NPC to talk to, watching cutscenes, and doing solo story instances. Occasionally you will get to do a 15 minute long dungeon that can be done with other players, but that's it. Almost every other MMO on the market just forces you to do a 10-15 minute tutorial and then you're free to do whatever you want and play with your friends. Worse, is that if you do manage to slog through the whole story and reach endgame, you realize that there is very little meaningful content to do. Like WoW, only the latest raid tier is relevant, but a raid tier in FFXIV is only 4 raid bosses and maybe a trial boss. Five boss fights to farm for several months on end. At least WoW gives you a dozen bosses per raid tier. Outside of raiding, you have frivolous grinding for relic weapons (that become irrelevant come the next expansion)... or farming for transmog items and mounts. You don't get any of the emergent gameplay you typically see in MMOs.
As a JRPG, FFXIV provides an okay experience, but the game is held back by the MMO format and the clunky engine. Being a story focused game, FFXIV lives or dies based off of its writing, and the gradually declines after Heavensward, with late Shadowbringers and the Endwalker expansion being pretty meh and having blown off a large portion of the fanbase who followed the story since the beginning. If you want a JRPG, you're going to get a far better experience just playing an actual JRPG. Start with the acclaimed ones like the oldschool FF games and Xenogears and Trails. If you are a JRPG veteran who has played dozens and dozens of JRPGs and you're running out of stuff to play, then sure, playing FFXIV makes sense. But before then? Not really.
The only reason why FFXIV was picking up traction a couple years ago was because the video game genre is in such a poor, dismal state, that FFXIV looks relatively good compared to almost everything else, but it pales in comparison to older MMOs and older JRPGs.
I fully agree with you, encoountered the bad guy in stormblood and the fight was unwinnable, thats as unsatisfying as it can get.. I hate stupid JRPG battles that make you fight then force you to lose or cutscene lose and Stormblood does it all the time with that faggy gaylord shitty Japanese pornographic cartoons guy.The base game is a slog, but the Heavensward was indeed good.

Those are not furries genious. Otherwise an orc with tusk a pig nose would need to be considered furry as well. And yet many forget ffXIV has actually 1 only furry race. The MMO with the most furry races is actually one of those that the haters shill for.
