A thought occurred to me. Wouldn't killing Orochi pretty much doom Japan since Orochi is its foundation? Not that that would bother Rance much

If anything, it'd make thing better, since now the foundation will stay still all the time.

I figured the whole foundation thing was metaphorical at first, but the land is literally resting on Orochi.

Japan would completely collapse if Orochi died unless he's just some really big monster that has no relation to the one the land is really resting on.

The battle with orochi is one hell of a fight I can tell you that. On the first playthrough I attempted defeating it I had my ass handed to me at least half a dozen times. - that was on *** difficulty level :(

Still, couple of tips for you WW. I cannot tell if you use all these tricks already from the screenies but if not they may prove helluva useful.

1. Guard shikigami is your best friend. Keep protective barriers constantly on as many strong units as possible - even on the diviners themselves. Yes the barrier protects even against the all-insta-death attack.

2. Refresh your units' action points with monks and in case of Rance - Sill. Do not waste their ap on attacks - it's far better to have Rance or Kenshin hit Orochi 3 times above their ap limit than any of the monks.

3. Items - equip them - every hp - be it yours or the enemy's and its minions counts.

4. Foot soldiers - guard all the time - not much help against orochi but the annoying spirits attacks will be partially nullified.

5. Ninja's your best friend - I don't remember if you have Dungeon Scout on one of yours - it will let you stream through the dungeon much faster losing less hp. Plus, during the actual battle swapping chars with Kentou Kanami instantly without losing her turn is a true ass life-saver.

6. Sending weakling first does not always work. Why? Orochi has a bad habit of throwing that insta kill attack very randomly. It is much better idea to send one strong unit with great ap , healing and protective shikigami support from relatively weak respectively - monks, mikos and diviners. Some good archers to take down that spirits from orochi's back would also be great (e.g. Uruza)

7. Pitty that your Kentarou did not get to fight with that gay demon - I levelled him up that way to lv 71 and netted him Kentarou-kun slash (his Rance Attack) - great help during that particular battle.

8. I would advise you to complete the hades dungeon with the hyper mega boss at the end - if you can defeat him you can defeat Orochi.

9. Whatever happens DO NOT LOSE RANCE!!!

One thing to remember as well - this particular battle is a bitch. You can play it perfectly with all you chars lvl-d up to max and still lose just because e.g. the snake will get initiative before you'll get to heal Kenshin. (Un)Saintly patience is a must.

Fight on brave wolf. Codex wants that supply of snake skin merchandise to itz store before Christmass :salute:

The Hades dungeon is like 10x worse then Orochi. I was joking before when I said to take on Gunagan. You pretty much need to spend an entire game preparing with an entire legion of 50+ level characters, and getting units like Rance/Kentarou/Kenshin/Uruza/Masamune all into the 70s or higher to even stand a chance.

The fate of millions of people resting on a completely untested assumption that could prove false is a bit shaky, to say the least.

Yeah, the supply of ass is running low and my friend, for Rance that is serious concern. IIRC, later on the infected fill all armies, and only three conquest of three provinces net you more +3 notch. Get your 300 rapes score soonest.

Not quite. We do learn for a fact that at least his scales are, or turn into, rocks (or things indistinguishable from rocks). That thing is not rotting away anytime soon. JAPAN should be okay, even better in fact, after the risk of its foundations just slithering away gets removed.

I was about to call saying that defeating the Hades boss is more difficult than Orochi bullshit when I remembered why it was so (relatively) easy for me.

Kentarou is the key. When he gets

turned into a demon

he gains immunity to all energy attacks - including the boss's rays of destruction. So you hack your way with Kentarou from time to time rejuvenating his ap and hp, and shielding Rance as well as Kenshin with protective shikigami.

Unfortunately Orochi bypasses that resistance :(

So we've lived to the day when we painstakingly analyse little details in a porn game as opposed to discussing huge holes in it. It is a truly sad time when you can expect some decent level of quality from an H game only. :(

That would have been nice to know when I did that.

(intelligence) You are saying that other game genres have declined in quality?

I myself learned about it during that fight. One more thing - the boss seems to focus his attack on Kentarou so the rest of the party bar the unit behind Kent is relatively safe.

Edit: Shit I confused things a little bit - I'm replaying the fight with gungan now - forgot that his attack hits all characters. Still, Kentarou is immune to it :smug:

(wisdom) Not only that. Having played Sengoku Rance and Big Bang Age I can say with all confidence that porn games are the only genre that experienced a major :incline: in quality in recent years... But I hear Alice Soft is having some serious issues so it seems that even in this niche a :decline: is going to hit us hard :(

IIRC Sengoku Rance was a pretty big hit in Japan as well. At least as far as the genre is concerned, where selling 100k copies is a major achievement. Would be sad to see such an excellent developer go down in flames :salute:

That would be a real shame :?

But I guess there are enough perverts and sickos in Japan, and since that's the main market for eroge, I think it's a good bet that they will prevail.

Well, they will survive, but... The thing is, "old school" developers, the guys who were there to make the first Rance game, they are fading out. The danger is that they'll be replaced by popamole newbies who don't get the whole "good games with porn" aspect.
