I remember the Win95 evolution called 'Petz'. It had both kittens and puppies running around on your desktop.

There was also 'Oddballz'.

In Monster Hunter: World you have a cat companion that you can customize during character creation (fur pattern and color for example). He accompanies you during the hunt and helps you in combat if you play solo or with only one more person online (the cats go away if your party reaches 3 or 4 players). His weapon and armor can be changed. There are many other cats in the game's hub between mission, notably some adorable cats playing music in your appartment once you unlock it.

Being half a fag I'd recommend Sims 2 with Pets, although I'm guessing 3 is an improved version (never played it).

You play as an adorable slugcat in Rain World, and you can do co-op with your wife for an amazing experience.

It's likely the most hardcore game to have been released in the last decade, though. Might burn her quickly if she has a low tolerance for dying repeatedly, but it should be fine if she played either Hollow Knight or Celeste.

Someone mentioned The Cat Lady, it has some cats and is a pretty cool and creepy adventure game, IIRC the Codex consensus is that it's a good game at the very least.
