Devlog #1 - The Basics

Edit

I had a chance to watch the video. Here is a cliff notes version

- co-op is up to 4 players
- single player offline is an option
- quests and progress saved in world data meaning you can play with your friends and any point regardless of progress
- each ability comes with own taletnt tree similar to last epoch
- cutting down of numerical damage bloat
- combat and crafting willl level up seperately
- more ways to complete quests
- enhanced cutscenes
- origin story during character creation will effect starting gear and unique dialogue through the game
- world events can unlock siege events which can ultimately lead to the destruction of an entire faction
- example of neutral world event was a meteor crashing into the ground and bringing with it a hoard of monsters
- some in-game events will drastically alter zones, wiping out existing quests, but will unveil new challenges.

If I may, the highly saturated colors and the bloom make it almost painful to look at (like eyestrain inducing). And it makes the graphics even more cartoony (on top of the models), which I think would put many people off.

I'll probably allow an option to reduce bloom and image effects, for the people who dislike them, and some visual stuff ofcourse will be improved closer to release

I actually quite like bloom, though I think it only works with a certain "painty" style, something like what oblivion had, fable, etc...

A gameplay showcase.

Some takeaways

- Two Handed combat is headed in a very heavy, impactful direction.
- Dual Wielding daggers is quick and pokey while dual wielding swords is slower but has more force. Different animations for each type of dual wielding.
- Mentioned being able to build player houses with friends.
- A summoned tornado wreacks havoc on the enemies while you cast from the air.
- Summons will go into a fighting formation near the character.
- Showcased how the before and after a dam was broken, and spoke of what effects it had on the world. New mobs, caves etc.

I like the wind effects being able to propel the player for flight, but I was disappointed to see that it didn't fling the enemy. Melee combat looks a bit cheesy though.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Irondust will the horse actually be useful this time around because in the original your character could become faster than the horse so there was never a reason to use it at all.

Irondust In the first game it was possible to swim through water. Unfortunately there was nowhere to go and nothing to find. Do you plan on making better use of water?

Also, I think combat will improved if you don't show the trajectory and impact location of enemy projectiles. I think that made many enemies far easier than they should have been.

Was that true for non-arcanists? As a mage I would scream through the skies like a fighter jet. It was faster and more practical than teleport. Mounts still seemed useful for other builds though.

I just hope that Gedonia 2 will be less wowesque and take more inspiration for the other rpgs, I honestly din't liked the gear dependency in G1.

I would be devoting every last resource I had (the first game actually got some attention and moved a few copies, no?) to finding a decent writer. Key word being "decent." You really don't need more than that, but you need something. The first game already had surprisingly good gameplay fundamentals, if you could pair it with some mid-tier pulp fantasy garbage characters and plot you'd really be cooking.

Yeah, for sure! I plan to add full blown mounted combat, with husbandry skill tree. Mounts will have attacks on their own, abilities, equipment etc.

Yeah that's a good idea, it was a missed opportunity in the first game.

I have two writers I'm working with at the moment. The story we came up with is already miles better than the first game. Can't say how it would compare to other games, but we'll see I guess. But in any case, two additional writers will have more time to shape the world with additional details, which is important too

Hey guys! I've released a demo for the game. Would love if you checked the game and share your feedback!
Steam link

The demo will be up until the end of October. Singleplayer only, it consists of main story intro, one secondary quest and a part of the first zone.

Sounds like fun. I will play a bit over the next few days and take some notes.

i dont remember gedonia1 having this whacky combat? Dual daggers just stop attacking without indication why, then resume after the pause.
Getting specializations on skills is nice idea, but equipping specced ones seem buggy.

EDIT: finished the demo, loved necromancer dungeon.
FYI prisoner background bandit checks seem to be bugged
