Ghost of Tsushima is a typical open-world game, but the Feudal Japan setting and the main character stand out. It’s fun to play as a strong male samurai who fights the invaders while also challenging the traditional samurai ideology of honor.

Other companies would build a series to milk the potential of a good protagonist. Look at how Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio milks Kiryu. It’s a strange decision to replace Jin.

The Tsushima force was just a vanguard, the main force would land on the mainland sometime later. Of course most of their navy would be sunk by the Kami Kaze (divine wind), which would pretty much be a Deux ex moment for a game. But it would look cool.

In any case, female characters are boring because the only things they fight for are validation or mental illness. It is pretty much impossible to make them appealing without big boobs.

I play buff manly warrior dudes because it's metal and cool and I want to get yoked myself. It's the same reason you watch/read Conan. Much prefer to play men over women but if I must play a woman she better be cool like in Tomb Raider or Claire Redfield. I almost view her as a companion of sorts. It is fun to play sorc in Diablo 2 as well, for example. I know plenty of beautiful girls in real life, don't need to debase myself with pixels thank you.

I have been loving Golden Kamuy, although it is more of a cooperation between an Ainu girl and a Jap military man for survival.
EDIT: I misrepresented the manga/anime a little: they are trying to get this golden treasure but they are doing so for their own reasons so they are helping each other because they will survive to accomplish this better by working together. Naturally they bond and et cetera. It is a phenomenal show/manga. In fact, thank you for reminding me to get back to it, arigatou gozaimasu!
