i think level difference still plays some role in combat calculations, just not as significant as in ED.
I don't think so - I'm at level 12 currently and recently got killed up a few times by a bunch of level 7 goblins, when I got careless - which I never should get, as I completely suck at reflexes-based games.

I love the fluctuating difficulty. Keeps things interesting. I'm a bit overleveled already due to powergaming - haven't even seen Maxxos temple yet, level 12, most of the quests still unfinished - and still tend to die from time to time (but please note the above mentioned suckage).

Yes, they did indeed remove the level stat. Enemies that were formerly (in ED) no threat because they were 3-4 levels behind remain dangerous, especially in numbers. On the other hand you can damage higher level enemies just fine. It's really better that way. But - even on nightmare the game is now a cakewalk compared to ED on hard. Mainly due to decreased number of enemies, slightly more XP gain and faster leveling and overpowered loot. I mean really, + 100 normal damage, +100 magic damage on a single weapon (with decent base stats) - such recipes didn't even exist in ED. They also decreased the levels of certain bosses, e.g. the goblin beholders in the mine in the fjords were level 27 iirc, now they're 21. But overall it's a more pleasant experience so far.

Also builds:
One skill which is definitely worth taking (instead of charm) is Blind. It requires very little point investment and is extremely effective in disabling enemies. Bosses are immune though - would be too easy otherwise.

Heh, Skyway likes.

Hang on a sec -- I think I just saw something fly by my window...
He also liked Dark Messiah of M&M.
Maybe there's more to him than meets the eye.

When Skyway likes a game (nowadays anyway) chances are it is really fucking good. There's nothing wrong with his positive attitudes, they are generally spot on. It's his persistent negativity about most other things that is the problem. When he decides to hate and bash something, chances are he's full of shit.

I think he's actually quite often spot on even with his negative attitudes, he just tends to get carried away to the point where his criticism starts to dwell on over-accentuated details, subjective preferences or simply infatuation with his own Grumpy Bear persona. (Plus, he sometimes bases his judgement on assumptions rather than actual experience.) He would make an outstanding critic if he cared to tone down the over-the-top negativity a bit.

Ugh, Ba'al is kicking my arse, time to grind I suppose. Also is there any point in Magic Blast? Just seems like a slower Magic Missile andin fact at level 11 on both MM does more damage.

Magic Blast got nerfed in one of the previous patches. Before that, it was a Win button against any boss.

But it's still useful to interrupt melee bosses that are using Rush attack.

Well you definitely shouldn't choose Magic Blast over Magic Missile. You should probably max it out eventually in FoV when presented with a skillpoint shower. Like MM, it's useful when you have some points in Confusion, because it hits 7 times.

Aside from being one of the best single target damage-inflicting skills in the game (second only to Thousand Strikes with a critical strike specialising warrior)? My mage was unstoppable with the Magic Blast, Magic Missile and Way of The Battlemage combo. The game wasn't even fun to play like this, even on hard.

Magic Blast is pretty situational, though I don't regret pouring 15 points into it. I use it chiefly for two things; taking out a specific enemy quickly (I think you get about 7 hits with fully upgraded blast, so it usually wipes out whatever it hits), or distracting a heavy hitter (say, someone with fucking explosive arrow) so I can close with a rush attack/thousand strikes or heal up.

Maxed Magic Blast + maxed destruction + decent magic weapon kills any single target.

Well I wouldn't call Div2 that. I remember making quite a lengthy post about it somewhere but in short - "it's good for one playthrough but... I... just... can't... stop... playing!"

It also has that long forgotten gameplay element "don't know where that quest item is? Keep playing and eventually you'll find it on the way" which I quite like and miss.

I don't really like MB. It's quite powerful, and hits instantaneously, but it's a pretty boring skill to use. Now if it blasted enemies backwards like it blasts my character when enemies use it it would be pretty fun, but as it is it's basically as interesting as pointing a finger at the enemy and saying "bang!" several times.

That's pretty good analysis, actually.

I tend to agree with most bad things skyway says about, for example STALKER. It's just that he is too butthurt about them to notice the other side of the coin. I could probably go skyway on most of the games in existence including all the better ones and probably all that codex holds dear. The problem starts not when the game has some flaws you can use to tear it a new one, it's when the game doesn't have enough good stuff to compensate for those flaws.

Similar to what I felt on my first playthrough. When I was nearing completion of DKS though I knew I was going to do another character.
Finished twice now, and I know I want to try yet another build. I only want Larian to add one more difficulty level with a patch. That would make the game complete in my eyes. As it is it's a bit too easy to create an overpowered character.

It also has that long forgotten gameplay element "don't know where that quest item is? Keep playing and eventually you'll find it on the way" which I quite like and miss.

Yes, I like how it rewards exploration too.Way too few of these games recently.

Just avoid being hit.
Can't, he has a spell where if you're hit he does 300 damage and with the mobs whittling your life done it's hard to get it back up and if I do, his cooldown on it has finished. And that was on Casual when I faced him.

I'll give it another go tomorrow.

@Satori
IIRC, he has an ordinary Magic Blast with a reduced cooldown. This shit hurts like a fucking bitch and resulted in the only instance where my ubermage was raped repeatedly. You should summon your creature (modify him with the HP increasing limbs) and try to attack him from a distance. This tactic worked for me after several rectal oppression sessions.
