Looks like every other type of this game. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Last of Us, Ryse, etc. Combat and platforming that plays itself, emphasis on a story that constrains the player to a single path, "in-game cutscenes" which just mean you are unable to skip them and have large sections of walking slowly while listening to characters talk without any input, banal leveling and skill trees to give the illusion of complexity, and so on. Who gives a shit. Why do people get excited for this redundant garbage.

This new game has a bunch of stuff that looks very interesting, especially the no loading and one take camera work, the relationship with his son, the crafting and characters progression, but most of wall the portrayal of the norse pantheon as cunts, their world as being one in decay, and how you as a foreign god get to explore and interact with them.

God of War already had the no loading thing going for it, that was it's thing. No loading screens. Dark Souls 1 also has no loading screens, Jak and Daxter games also has no loading screens, Prince of Persia 2008 has no fuckin loading screen at all ever... .. beat that bitches.

We're all impressed at your vidya trivia skills that reach as far back as.. 10 years ago.

Because people enjoy fun mindless games sometimes and take a brake from highbrow experiences like PoE... :smug:

I know that people has turned it into a kind of meme, but I'm concerned about the lost of plataforming and jumping mechanics in this game. I have read a valuable review of this game, and while the review itself doesn't highlight it as a fault it mentions the lack of verticality. If you see an enemy above a rock you can't even climb to it because the fighting mechanics are separate from the exploration ones (You can do it outside combat btwt!). Also the climbing is completely automated in this, you can't even die or fall.

Despite I'm very interested in this game mythology and atmosphere-wise, it looks like a mess in terms of gameplay. Let's see.

No blades of chaos.

Retarded sandbox design.

What still drives Kratos without revenge?

Midgard? I thought the whole game was based on greek mythology.

Nothing is sacred. They are ruining the series.

nonstop whirlwind of emotion and bloody action... hahahah, how cute.

On the other side they didn't even translated yet the new Hokuto no Ken game, I mean it is about a guy that make people explode and become more powerful with sorrow.

As for the one take camera, Dead Space 2 already had that, and prior GoW games already did that shit within gameplay when you fight the big ass monsters, it was seamless integration of gameplay with cinemati-cism, they only used cut off's during actual cutscenes where the camera had to do cuts to look good. Anyway, MGSV already did this shit and got famous for it so what's the damn point again?

Why are you so bitter? :negative:

Probably because he likes this series and it seemingly has had the gameplay sucked out of it in favor of "gameplay", cinematics and story, and despite featuring "gameplay" is getting "10/10 game of generashun" reviews by Low-S/paid off game journos? Same shit as with most long-running game series?

Disclaimer: again, was never a particularly good series, but it was by and large gameplay-first and not too bad at that (mixed bag combat, decent platforming, decent puzzles).

Awesome, all I've ever wanted from a title based on a character who was known for bloodlust, rage, death & slaughter etc. is to spend 25-50 hours as a babysiiter.

He wants to fulfill the dying wish of his wife, only to be messed with by Odin who is obsessed with ragnarok.

Don't forget that God of War the original series also started with simple motivations only to become increasingly more insane in its plot and set pieces.

It's everything BUT God of War

:negative:

Considering that the series was always garbage that can only be a good thing, potentially. :M
Removing your ability to jump in an action-adventure game and having an invicible sidekick along for the ride hardly suggests this reboot was done with the goal of improving gameplay.

These changes aren't driven by some deliberate creative vision, they're there because with The Last of Us, Sony stumbled on the video game equivalent of Oscar bait: a 3rd-person action-adventure game (with the restricive over-the-shoulder view, naturally) starring a gruff dad and a young child on a cinematic adventure through a hostile world.

And judging by the reviews, it's very reliable bait that paid off once again.

I still dont get the butthurt. God of war has always been cinematic popamole mixed with simplistic but decent gameplay.

From what ive seen in game footage the character Kratos also didnt change as much as gamejournalist want it make to seem. Hes still some grumpy dude who tears off limbs of anyone who stands in his way. Sometimes he pats his kid on the back or yells at him and now hes supposed to be a nuanced emotional character?

There's no jump button in God Hand either but that didn't stop it from being one of the best action games of all time. The kid orbiting around you during the whole game is a dumb and bad idea though.

Someone earlier made the point that games like these impact how other games in the genre will be. There aren't many Hack & slashers being released nowadays apart from Platinum's stuff & the new Darksiders. Regardless of what people think of God of War, it was the most popular series in this genre. This new game releasing in this manner and gaining such grand praise will impact how devs later will make their hack & slashers.
Personally, I doubt if the new Devil May Cry will be like this if it is really releasing this year and has actually been in development, same for Bayonetta.
