Great News. I was actually in the mood to play these. After my current FRUA The Real Series East sessions.

I've never played these before *cough*

I still haven't completed Pharaoh. I bought Caesar III a while back but decided to play it only after finishing Pharaoh. Seems to me Zeus is more mythology-based.
Yes, the focus is shifted somewhat from city building when compared to the previous games. While you need to interact with the gods in all of them, in Zeus they are phisically present in your cities along with heroes and monsters, and the objectives are focused on dealing with these. It's a pretty fun game, although somewhat easier than the previous two. For instance buildings no longer need direct access to employees; as long as enough workers exist in your city they run just fine. Still worth a try since it's different enough from the rest of them as to no feel like you're playing the same game over and over again.

Silver has just been released. I remember playing the demo, years ago, and loving it. Couldn't afford the full game. I can now. :)

Looks like it suffers from the same bugs and compatibility issues the CD version did. Plus, they used a version that doesn't support speech+text at the same time. This is very disappointing.

I suppose it is irritating if English isn't your first language, but I don't have that problem. But I've already had one CTD. Since you can only save at certain locations, I think that is going to be a problem.

Anyone knows what's the deal with Syndicate? It has been among top sellers from the day it was released and right now, it's on top again. This game can't simply be that popular. Is this a bug or something. it's weird for such a cult game to be among top sellers for such a long time. Even the new Syndicate game wasn't a huge success. It's really fuckin weird.

I think the depressing answer to that question is that people log onto Gog, see "Syndicate" offered up for 6 dollars or whatever, assume it's a huge price cut on the modern Syndicate game and click "buy" without actually looking at the screenshots.

A fortunate mistake on their part, really, as they then get to play an excellent classic rather than dumbed-down modern crap.

AFAIR the only version that allowed audio+text was the Dremcast release...

i doubt they see it that way

The beauty of it is that once they buy no takebacks :p

I do have to say that I would be hard-pressed to believe that someone wouldn't at least see the screenshots, read the game's description, SOMETHING considering you have to go through the game's page before you can actually take the steps required to purchase the game.

According to GOG forum US version had both, but GOG used the UK version. How's the DC version compared to PC? If it's a 1:1 port might as well play it on an emulator. Should be less buggy too.

Haven't played it for long, but I remember it worked well on NullDC. Big plus: you don't have to rape your mouse in combat. You rape your gamepad instead.

Check videos on yewtube:

Also:

I confirmed that US has indeed an option to use both text and audio:

Underground Gamer said:
On the US version there is a Dialog + Speech. UK it's only Dialog or Speech. Also in the US version was an option to save regularly after you obtain the map. The Chronicler will always be present at the bottom of the rebel camp in Haven after you receive the map.

So, UG >>> GoG again.

There's also detailed info about installing and runing the game on Win7 64 bit:

DK1, but the second one is pretty good too.

GOG uses the DOS release of DK1 under DOSBox. I do not know if the DOS version is stuck in low resolution or if you can use the ALT-R command to switch to a higher one — the screenshots seem to use the higher resolution but I do not know about the release itself. KeeperFX is a mod for DK1 that allows you to run the game natively in Windows, including x64 releases, but it is still in development and may feature a few bugs and annoyances that need to be fixed. Other than that it's smooth and feels like the original game, and according to their readme you can use the files from the GOG release to work with it. Finally the GOG release only includes the original game and not the Deeper Dungeons extension. Since it is only a collection of new levels with higher difficulty without any new addition, it may not be important to you, but you might as well know this fact.

I think it might actually be a decent idea to play DK2 first since there is a chance that you will find it very sucky atmosphere-wise if you play DK1 first. I know I did.

Yeah, I've noticed that most EA games released on GOG don't come with the expansion packs. What's up with that?

Anyway, thanks.
