...aaand downloading some 20GB worth of "updates" for W2...
Check your installed programs afterwards and see whether it has been installed twice.
Nope, thankfully not. I guess the way the program works is: check whether the game is in the newest version, if not, check if it's in any of the couple of latest versions that have separate updates to the latest, if not install the whole thing again.
Did you also look in "Uninstall a program" in the Control Panel? That's where I had all the duplicates. If not, they finally fixed this, which would be a good sign.

That's exactly where I checked. Also, the folders haven't magically increased in size, so that's also good.

Maybe you had a different folder set as the default instalation folder in Galaxy and a different one where the games have been previously installed?

Since you are waving you Steam-peen around like that, can a Level 23 peon ask you what your Steam level is?

I'm only looking forward to the Galaxy client due to the API updates that will hopefully come with it. GOG's current windows downloader is a joke compared to the linux version developed by Sude in his spare time. But there is only so much he can do with the limitations of the API for querying the database. Still, his downloader combined with a cron script to download updates and delete old exes is a million times more functional and robust than anything GOG's software team (a thousand monkeys tied together with a piece of string?) has managed to cobble together so far. They're dropping the ball in pretty much every area:

- want a good downloader? get a third party one (but kudos to GOG that this is even possible)
- want a good search function? use magog (although GOG's new search is a clear improvement on what they had before)
- want a changelog for each update? consult a thread that's updated by users
- want notifications if some extra will be removed soon, e.g. a soundtrack? consult yet another thread
- want a good dosbox setup? better do it yourself (I'm looking at you, Ultima Underworld 1)

It really makes you wonder: patching and possibly reverse engineering some old games to get them to run well on modern OSs is not a trivial exercise and requires a very specialized skillset that's not too common in the industry. So why do they have such a hard time with relatively mundane tasks like a download client or a search engine?

No, it produced double entries despite being in the same location. Which also meant uninstalling one uninstalled the other. But it's good to hear they progressed on this front.

I cannot check anymore as I already solved all issues, which meant lots of re-downloads.

GOG have also fixed the joypad problem that was noticeable when using a Xbox 360 controller.

You mean they installed the official patch that has been available for almost 20 years now? It’s good they included it, but you could have looked for it and installed it yourself before, ya lazy bum.

The client only offers an "install game" option, no "download" option. Does that mean the game gets insta-installed, with no backup of the downloaded file(s)?
Yes, that's correct. You have to download backup files the old-fashioned way.

This, combined with the fact that the client only recognizes very few installations done via the old downloader, makes the client somewhat superfluous at the moment.
Yeah, but no, dudes, make your homework before codexing the shit out of Galaxy

1 You can use Galaxy to download the standalone version : just go to your library, click on any game, click on Download More, click on extra, click on the game,... This is it. Though, right now, I've had shitty download speed with that, but it will be fixed down the line.

2 The multiplayer component of Galaxy is developped separately to the client part and is ready/in advanced stage since sometimes now : witcher adventure game, Alien versus predator and double dragon has been sold with it. They probably thought of putting this with DivOS back then. Now they are waiting for all the package to go in open beta.

3 The client is drm-free : everything you download through it can be launched forever without connecting once to anything ever after. Thus all the point in using it instead of steam.

4 A new account is in preparation for the next few weeks (though garme development...) : manual sorting and all that jazz are in it,...

5 But yeah, it's full of bugs : redownloading full games to have the latest galaxy compatible version, shitty download speed,... That's called an alpha testing.

Library in the Galaxy sucks balls. No manual sorting mode. Searching by genre laughable -- hey, did you know that Ultima 9 is an RPG, but Wizardry 7 isn't?

Looks like unbundled games have not categorized for now. So Ultima 1~6 also are not categorized as RPG for now. Yeah, sucks.

At least I like the fact it has several sorting functions in library, unlike Steam.

Still, the "install" option doesn't yield a backup of the downloaded files. You have to download that backup separately, even if it's nice that that option was added into the client with the last patch.

Couldn't get it to work before.

Or just back up the stuff it downloads. Unless you're really married to having installers.

Rumors has it that there is a "very big thing" coming on GOG next tuesday. If you want some sources : Judas is hyping the hell out of it since a month now and there is this :

http://af.gog.com/forum/general/coming_up_on_twitchtvgogcom_e3167/post605?as=1649904300

GOG twitchers seems to be in the knowing ;)

No fucking clues at what that could be, but thought that was worth to share.

So there was a Big Thing for today, even if it's still a little hard to see how it will go in the future ;)

GOG is launching itself in the publishing busness by reediting in their names two SSI classics : Fantasy General and Pacific General. :bounce:

http://af.gog.com/news/release_pacific_general_fantasy_general?as=1649904300

GOG in publishing is huge : they could maybe have a way to bring back the gold box or others classic. They could even give publishing deals for kickstarting some new entries in those series. :bounce::bounce:

So yeah, it's pretty huge +M

Both games (used to be) freely available from abandonware sites. Potato ruins yet another thing. :negative:

Do you know anything about publishing games on GOG? Like, the procedure and so on. Couldn't find any useful information except buzzwords, but it was quite some time ago.
