So I bought more games on GOG over the last two weeks (thanks Codex) than I'm going to be able to play in 3 years.

Fallout 1 & 2
Heroes of Might & Magic 2 & 3
Jagged Alliance 2
Arcanum
Betrayal at Krondor & sequel
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
Icewind Dale 1 & 2
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
Planescape: Torment
Temple of Elemental Evil
Demon Stone
Dragonshard
Syndicate
Startopia

I have never played any of these...which are good to start my 90s-PC-games-I-missed-out-on adventure?

Play them in the order they came out (by year)? That would be cool, as you watch different mechanics change over the years.

I second that. Also, with so many AD&D games it 's also interesting to see how the rules of the different editions change.

Aight, will do. Here's the order in which I digest them.

Syndicate 1993
Betrayal at Krondor 1993
Heroes of Might & Magic 2 1996
Fallout 1997
Return to Krondor 1998
Fallout 2 1998
Baldur's Gate 1998
Heroes of Might & Magic 3 1999
Jagged Alliance 2 1999
Planescape Torment 1999
Baldur's Gate 2 2000
Icewind Dale 2000
Arcanum 2001
Startopia 2001
Icewind Dale 2 2002
Neverwinter Nights 2002
Temple of Elemental Evil 2003
Demon Stone 2004
Dragonshard 2006
Neverwinter Nights 2 2006

...Codex playground, prepare to be polluted.

For RPGs I would start with:
BaK
RtK optional
BG1 + 2
F1 + 2
JA2
Planescape Torment
Arcanum optional
ToEE optional
It has the allstars and gives a good rundown about what rpgs in the 90's were capable of. I didn't like Arcanum very much but it has some interesting festures. ToEE is an excellent engine but lacks a game most of the time. Maybe Co8 modpack significally improves this. Rest of your bunch is more of the same but inferior or only if you have way too much time.

UncleJimbo : You are in for a treat. Some of those games are the very best computer games of all time. Just be a little bit patient and give them a chance.

Tomorrow: one new game and one pre-order, but both with a retro feel.

Kind of hoping it might be another Wadjet Eye game <3

15 bucks for a 28 MB game. Talking about some serious self confidence.

It actually looks like the worst type of indie trash. Shitty mechanics ripped off from a million other games and an oh-so-hilarious self-referential sense of humour of the type that only LOLcat afficionados can appreciate.

Play some free Flash games instead, or download a NES emulator and one of the much better game RCR parodies.

Well it's a new game, that's why it is more expensive.
Hotline Miami and FLT are both new games, around 150 MB and only 10 bucks.
It also says in the headline that it's a parody ( ) of classic games. It should be freeware already.

We're basing price on fucking megabytes now? So Max Payne 3 should be like $300?

You don't see less than 3 GB games with full price tag nowadays, do you?
Not always, but most of the time, megabytes show how much technical effort was put into making the game. Technical effort includes voice acting, engine, soundtracks, number of people working on the game, etc. 28 MB means no voice acting, MIDI ( or semi-midi whatever that means ) soundtrack, pixel art graphics, few number of people working on the game. Pricing of the game should be directly related to its budget and RCR doesn't look like it had a very big budget. Now the game might be a fucking masterpiece, but we are only talking about pricing here and I think 15$ is unfair for such a small game.

I am generally speaking. So don't throw exceptions in my face.
