Don't you need a copy of the original to play OpenXcom though?

Yeah, but once installed you can bypass the Steam DRM since it has a different exe. I hear they're implementing TFTD soon.

You can play TFTD already. Just download the nightly patches and you are good to go.

Ooh, do they fix the research tree bug(s)?

That I don't know, sorry. I haven't played it much, just testing it out.

I didn't see an option for it in the stable build.

Stable version (1.0) is old now. You need the nightly builds for TFTD. There are other great improvements as well. Like grenades actually have chance of missing now, your soldiers have a diary. It works like a collection of all the missions, who they killed with what and so on. They even earn medals now.

Good point, I didn't see the date on it. I'll check those out.

I'm just glad to be able to finally get Freedom Force on GOG:
https://af.gog.com/game/freedom_force?as=1649904300
I enjoyed that quite a bit back in the day! You can't argue with the $2 price tag, either.

On a different note...

My apologies to the Codexian but I can't remember who, they recommended these two links for getting No One Lives Forever 1 and 2....

Well, I tried it, and it actually worked. The site was a nightmare to work with, so I had to rely a lot on Google Translate (it would have been fine if I spoke Hungarian, I'm sure), but they accepted PayPal so I never had to risk my Visa account on a dicey transaction, and I never got scammed. They charged me about $10 and I haven't seen anything strange since.

As for the games themselves, they're zip files buried in the digital magazine, which you have to read via the web (once again, in Hungarian, so it took some research to make sense of it all). But once I downloaded the zips, they installed just fine. Both games are completely English versions, they run at reasonable screen resolutions, they work on Windows 10, and most importantly, they don't get upset if you don't have an original CD installed. Even my old NOLF 1 & 2 installations from original media would bitch if there wasn't an actual CD in the drive.

So, if you're as desperate as I was to play No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, the above approach works.

:takemymoney:

It kind of begs the question though, if some Hungarian game mag can work out a deal for NOLF 1 & 2, why can't GOG? That's only for the Lawyers to know, I suppose. :argh:

My guess? Various magazines (especially in Eastern Europe, it seems) got 'temporary' rights to distribute certain games with their magazines back in the day. In this particular case, a loophole is probably being exploited that allows them to distribute the game for an indefinite amount of time - as long as people buy a magazine subscription along with it.

You could have just asked the local hungarian retard (aka J_C) to translate you. :P
But thanks for bringing this to my attention, I think I will get this myself.

Whoa, I remember playing a demo of Evil Islands a looong time ago. Reminded me of a fantasy version of Commandos. Anyway here's hoping for Rage of Mages as well.

"Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales"

Wasn't this called Age of Pirates on release? I recall them not being allowed to use "Sea Dogs" for some reason.

Elven Lagacy + Fantasy Wars pack worth it for 5$? I remember "trying" them some years ago, but never spent much time with them, does the "late game" hold up?

Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear released: https://www.gog.com/game/baldurs_gate_siege_of_dragonspear

Also, though they're no longer on the front page, the 2K bundles are still up for four days.

Enhanced Edition Bundle for those that want the other Beamdog games: https://af.gog.com/promo/special_promo_beamdog_games?as=1649904300

Interesting news:
On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.
