I know nostalgia has reached poisonous levels when I start thinking Myst or Riven are good games.

I like the logic based puzzles in Riven and Myst. I wish other companies had done a good job blending those with traditional inventory based puzzles.

Hmm... Eador is a very nice game. I've only played a hour, but it seems to be a better game than King Bounty. It has more layers to it, such as having a wide variety of buildings you can build, conquering local territories for resources, while having to build infrastructure to appease the local populace (like Alpha Centauri in a way), having hidden places you can explore in each territory, terrain actually being important in combat, and your units, along with the hero, being able to gain skills through combat. The graphics is nothing to brag about, but it looks decent in higher resolution.

Make the Codex Great Again!

Yeah you can't save scum, unfortunately. There is a button that lets you go back to the previous turn if you screw up, however.

Heh I was the one who posted that. I think it's a really cool feature that strikes a good compromise - every time you use it, you lose glory (endgame score I think); and, if I'm not mistaken, text-based events (excluding the Explore Province option) are also different every time you use this feature. It even ties in to the context of the game itself. On top of that, the game autosaves for you every turn, so you never have to worry about the game crashing and losing much progress (but it can still be a minor nuisance to crash after defeating a tough enemy like a dragon).

Holiday sale is live, looks like they took a page from Gaben. Daily sales and bundles inbound.

Also Duke Nukem 3D is free for the next 48 hours -- funny enough it was added to the Steam registry about a day ago.

Like most GOG sales -- underwhelming unless you buy massive packs.

Sucks, Baldur's Gate is not on sale even though Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale are.
I'm guessing it's going to be a bundle as one of the daily deals. I wouldn't buy anything for half off until the end of the sale when you know for sure it's not part of some daily deal/bundle thing.

Hmmm, now maybe I shouldn't have bought Privateer solo for $2.25ish if they do a Wing Commander pack. Ah well, guess we'll see.

Almost their entire catalog is 50% off which isn't bad. Only a handful are at smaller discounts or not discounted at all.

Again, it's the same as all the prior GOG Winter Sales (think I've seen three so far). I'm not saying it's 'bad' per se just predictable in that they don't really budge from their sale price points. It's the same strategy they've embraced for years. If you want bigger discounts you have to buy half a dozen or more titles at a time some of which are good some of which are not so good.

Funny thing is you can get better discounts on individual games you want throughout the year.

True, but it seems to be working for them and will probably pull in a lot of new customers so maybe it's a don't fix what ain't broke thing.

And some of which they pay you to take. I got ToEE and MoO3 that way.

I still think I got cheated on MoO3 though.

I suspect that Trent Oster has somehow arranged for GOG not to discount Baldur's Gate.

Oh well. I finally bought "King of Dragon Pass" for 50% off, which for whatever reason I always forgot to buy. That should even run on my old netbook.

That sounds disturbingly plausible, given that GOG have mentioned in the past that they need the publishers permission for the sales.

Yet another reason to burn him in effigy, as if we didn't have enough.

I'm considering buying the Tomb Raider games from GOG.com. I have all the CDs somewhere, but getting them to work on modern systems is temperamental at best. I imagine GOG.com have probably made some kind of wraparound.

I've had my eye on Quest to Glory 1-5 for a while, what's the Codex take on those games?
