Comes more into its own. It's 4X with a story, if you believe it.

I've never played Alpha Centauri so I'm getting it now. Is it Civ in space or does it come more into its own?

It's the best 4X ever

Also get the unofficial patch here

This + DO NOT play with the factions that they were added with the expansion. They are either horribly broken, like the alien races, or are just rehashes of the old ones. The expansion for this game is one of those few which don't make the game better, but quite the contrary. My advice is to just install the original plus the patch mentioned above and you're good to go.

If they added expansions... why haven't they made an announcement? or have the game updated notification?

Huh, and just yesterday I was saying EA must be dicking around with GOG else they'd have the expansion to SMAC.

Will there be new daily promos? This guy on your forums "Enigmatic T" said there wouldn't be, but then he changed his mind about it.

You guys at GOG can be weird. :M

Is the talkie version of MM4&5 worth the effort of redownloading and reinstalling? Will doing so effect my saved games (I just played the first couple hours of Worlds of Xeen)? I also have Alpha Centauri, so I suppose I should reinstall that, but a commentor above said it would actually make the SMAC experience worse if I try playing with the new factions from this update. Would others concur with that statement?

Yes. The original factions are more balanced and together make for a more interesting, coherent setting than the mishmash of sci-fi elements that make up most of the new factions. You do have the ability to choose which factions you want to play with when starting an Alien Crossfire game, though I tend to play the original anyway because I find some of the expansion's other additions to be overpowered to the point of breaking the game.

Edit: If the GOG version works like the CD version, you should be able to freely switch between the original and the expansion depending on which executable you select. So you can always download it, try it out, and switch back to the original later if you prefer it.

I know that you get seperate short cuts for both the speech versions and the non-speech versions of the game. As far as save games go, this *shouldn't* be a problem but I am not 100% sure since I didn't work on those games myself :D.

Just found out that the saves are initially incompatible between versions as the floppy version uses a .SAV format while the talkie version uses the .WOX format.

There is a utility for converting saves, however, from SAV to WOX.

This holiday sale has been awesome. Too bad they aren't offering Chaos on Deponia in the Daedalic bundle, as it's the best game they've made.

I don't know if it affects saves but I do NOT recommend the talkie. Voice are terrible, and not in a good way. The CD version of WOX used to be massive decline because it forced you to constantly switch CDs (the Darkside dungeons were on the Cloudside disc, the WOX dungeons in Cloudside were on the Darkside discs, the end game was all over the place...). The GOG version won't have this problem, but I'm still not sure it's worth it. I played talkie once, and on all future replays went back to my good old regular version.

I have bought most of the games in the bundle for almost full price. I hope the German bastards appreciate that.
