Perhaps I wasn't being clear in my conjecture. There's your answer:The issue though is that there's an entire collection of hentai games already translated to English in Mangagamer, including some Rance games, but they won't show up in Steam or GOG ever except once in a blue moon, so translation is not an issue in the case of Rance games.

It's a japanese company as far as I can tell (Wikipedia confirms it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MangaGamer). I hesitated to use the word xenophobic but that's what it boils down to, imho. "We'll use it if it's japanese because we're proud samurai! Fukku you!" Basically someone, preferably japanese or at least knowing all their customs, needs to be in Tokyo, drink with these idiots and convince them that selling shit overseas is a good idea. And it's been this way forever since at least the 80s and my guess since Japan opened up to international trade. Note how the wiki bluntly says "These early titles were translated by native Japanese speakers involved with parent companies, which resulted in a subpar quality. After complaints from fans, it was announced that a complete re-translation of Edelweiss was in progress. Starting with Soul Link, translation and editing is handled by an international team of native English speakers, resulting in an increased quality. " It took a couple years for them to realize that proud samurai can't translate to english all that well.
