That design was basically lifted off from an early iPhone app that had some nice public domain books that the developers (re)typeset for the phone (it actually influenced Apple's design for the iBook app but IMO they did it worse - and the books in iBooks didn't look as nice). GOG's entire site at the time looked like it was heavily inspired by the Mac OS X and iOS design. Now, it might just all be a coincidence, but not too long after Apple went away from the highly detailed skeuomorphic style with the shiny highlights and shadows to the more cheap plastic-looking one, GOG also changed its site's visual design to something simpler.

The current design does use wooden shelves (though you can change the material from a menu at the bottom right side) but it doesn't have a wooden back or walls.

Unpacking has got great reception by pretty much everyone who tried. It was released ~3 months ago on Steam and has 7631 reviews at 91% "Very Positive" score. It has way more work put into it than some $.99 shovelware game (though there is already a F2P clone on mobile).
