After being wrong about wrpg's, it is only natural to move on to weeb stuff. Also, major negative points for shilling the hardcore101 jrpg book, a garbage wikipedia summary style book.

Wait until you read about the "Untold History of Japanese Game Developers" Book by John Scezepaniak. The first one was great, but the other volumes did not live up to expectations. To me, they felt like someone's diary talking to his best friends. And what's with the obsession with asking developer to sketch their departments?

Japanese anime girl failing at GTA flying school missions for almost 5 hours straight. Doesn't get any better than this (flying school starts at around 2:55 and ends at around 7:15).

The main issue is that he generally seems to have no clue about the topics he presents. He does research with very limited sources and what isn't mentioned in those, simply doesn't exist. As such, apparently JRPGs on PCs only existed in very few numbers in the early to mid 80s, then like 2-3 titles for the late 80s and nothing for the 90s and beyond which is completely ridiculous.
He also doesn't mention that in curent times, JRPGs absolutely profit from also releasing on PC. So citing high sales numbers while omitting that fact...eh.

NKB's early vids are good - about PoE 1+2, the 'Witcher' series, Kingmaker, Lovecraft in games, etc.. He seemed to know his stuff and care about those titles.

Then he got a patreon and let 'fans' vote on the games he should cover and the quality dropped. Neither the 'Elder Scrolls' nor the 'Deus Ex' vids were great - and way too long for what they offered.

Sometime afterwards, youtube nuked his whole channel and after he got it back he made vids defending Emil P and Sweet Baby Inc. What a decline. Sad!

Why did they nuke the channel?

I only heard speculation that it was because of his 'Erotic Games' video, don't remember the exact name.

The video is missing now, so that fits. Nuking a whole, relatively big, channel because of it seems extreme - but it's youtube, so who knows.

Gmanlives also reviewed some "erotic games" and he's still fine.

Some people get preferential treatment and others do not, Youtube is nepotism central. There's also the chance of releasing a harmless video and randomly offending a tranny who proceeds to fuck you over.
Yes.
Small channels have it worse.
They have to go through the algorithm if they hope to get to the top and grow.

That would certainly explain it. Overreaching one's area of expertise is never good when there are people with actual knowledge in the audience. Of course, 99% of the viewers have likely very little clue at all and as such, it works out for him.

You have to think, if organized crime can wipe people out anytime, anywhere, and for any reason at all if it goes against their interests, why wouldn't "the deep state" do the same to Donald Trump if he was actually any threat whatsoever?. Do you really think they would allow anyone to be president if it goes against (((their))) interests?.

Trump's first term was a complete nothing burger, and any "good" that was done was immediately backpedalled by Biden. That's the nature of democracy, impermanence and chaos.

Shame there's not really a good source for the early, experimental stuff. Japan had some interesting-looking games we don't have a lot of info on, at least when it comes to stuff that isn't either your typical SNES JRPG or the more video heavy stuff starting in the PSX-era. I remember one guy on Hardcore101 trying to do Japanese PC games, but you could tell he wasn't putting that much effort in.

Yeah, he went completely off the rails after getting in trouble with the YouTube algorithmoid. It's a shame since the videos about CHYNA and porn games were his most original and best to date. The allegations he threw against PatricianTV while white-knighting Emil were nothing short of mentally ill and I didn't even bother to watch the culture war video.

It is funny how even minor internet success followed by some relatively small hardship or drama makes a certain type of a person go completely crazy. NKB is not the first or last.

Since you brought up Deus Ex, that project is ThreadbareInc's magnum opus and probably one of the best game coverages if you're into that combined LP/analysis format. Rather than present everything as one video he turned it into a series with every entry featuring additional topic that somehow relates to an element of Deus Ex be it themes, technology, etc. I at least enjoyed it a decade ago, but sadly dude has fallen by the wayside with, in my opinion, only Thi4f videos reaching similar level albeit from a different angle. He has probably been mentioned before.

He's a canuck, the fact that a bunch of Belgians buttblasted everything they've ever done in one swoop hurts his national pride.
