Cleve said that with enough speed, spells can be cast before melee attacks, so it probably applies to instruments too. But if your melee people are fast too, probably not.

Points are initially awarded based on the type of attack and then speed is factored in on top of that score. Spellcasters regularly begin to act first when they get speed up to 80. At least in testing.

I might fudge those values around a little more towards speed in the final Grimoire release.

Right now I have several chars with SPD from 75 to 93 (bard) - so far I see absolutely no coherence in who is acting first, all seems random, or perhaps I'm too dumb to see the pattern.

Is the rumour that Joel Hopkins tried to pirate Grimoire using a SNES cartridge and sell it all over Australia true, Cleveland Mark Blakemore ?

Halp pls - got stuck at the bestiary underground (I completed it on one of my multiple previous runs but now I'm stuck and can't remember what to do)

I got the dragon key from the fountain, but it doesn't fit anywhere. None of the doors can be forced of knock-knocked.

ehhh, I've skipped an entire corridor with the room at the end, with the key under the bed and didn't even notice it. Hope it's not an early onset of dementia.

I have done the same in the bestiary because you are so focused on the cages you can mistake an opposite corridor for one you have already explored. This is why it is good to consult the map frequently to see what is left.

Does SPD affects only the attack queue, or the usage of the items, e.g instruments, as well?

My multiclassed bard is sitting on ~75 unused skill poinits and I have no idea whether to pump it into speed, or rather some other skills (dunno which ones - probably some STR, since she's feyfolk).

If SPD doesn't affect both spellcasting (like in Wiz 8) and invocation/instruments, then I guess it's useless for bard?

It most certainly affects item use (or used to before bard nerfs, anyway). The broken party setup was having a fast bard to freeze everyone, then heavy hitters to do damage, then a slow bard to freeze whoever was awakened by heavy hitters back.

That's one more for the Green Hand Gang.

Green Hand Gang Leader : "We're working together now like a well oiled team. We just need that something extra to distinguish us from any other roving band of roughneck bandits."

Reacharound Ricky : "Wait, what if we all sing in chorus some annoying ditty while we're fighting to distract our opponents? Something like ... 'Oh Rahdy Didey Ay!' or something similar ?"

Green Hand Gang Leader : "I think Ricky has nailed it! We're going to need to practice to keep it up for an entire combat, so let's start singing it around the campfire tonight."

(Several members of the hearty band go insane and kill each other that night while practicing the song)

What does the berserking skill do for non-berserker classes that don't have the berserk power?

Does ninjitsu increase the number of attacks a character can make in combat with open hands?

On spellcasting, does INT lower the likelihood to backfire, WIS lower the likelihood to fizzle, and WIL lower the likelihood for the enemy to save against the spell?

Berserking skill doesn't do anything for other classes. I can't remember what Ninjitsu does exactly, but it increases damage and you want it on your open hand expert. As for the spellcasting stats, their exact functioning is not fully understood but you can find some information if you look around:

Has anyone done two complete playthroughs, from V1 to V2? I put over 140 hours into the game from the day of release over the course of a month or so. Haven't touched it since completing it back then. I know Cleve added more content and fixes from the original launch to V2.

I know Cleve added more content and fixes from the original launch to V2.

The locations that were added in V2 (spoilers):

Additional Content in Grimoire V2.0
New location: Tomb of Doom (Shrine, Forge, Oracle) - located on the Harradan Groves map

New location: Theosophy Lodge in the Hedgemaze of Gideon (You get the Patron Argent, with which you can buy a level up at each shrine. You need a figurine and password from Tomb of Doom to access the lodge)

New location: Evil Place in the Raven Wildes (You need a password found in the Necropolix under the Fortress of the Dead)

New location: Swamp Shack in the Wildes of Bahomet (Alchemy Bench)

New location: Tattletale Circus in the Nerukzan Woodlands (Rhattu casino with mini-games. To access it, get the password from Raji Khan)

New location: Fissure in the Nerukzan Woodlands (Boss fight and quest related to Tattletale Circus)

New location: Mount Periwinkle (9/10 difficulty climb) - access on the Dominion Exemplar map
  • Periwinkle Village
  • Periwinkle Laboratory (Shrinecrafts book)
  • Periwinkle Kitchen (Hearth, ACME Vending Machine)
  • Periwinkle Chapel (Shrine, +1 CON & +3 WIS fountains)
  • Periwinkle Blacksmith (Hearth, Forge)
  • Titan Underground Lake
  • Titan Mines
  • Periwinkle Hostel
  • Endworld Cabin
  • Cataclysm (Phased Plasma Rifles and Cells)
  • New optional ending (Using the clock twice to go forward)
New gameplay: Spirit Bar (SPI). Can get depleted when encountering evil monsters, leading to fear. Characters with higher DEV attribute (devotion) have better chances not to succumb. To increase the Spirit Bar again, cast Bless, Cerebral Shield or Miracle. Resting at an activated Shrine or at some of the Safe Haven spots also restores the Spirit Bar.

Thanks, but there doesn't seem to be much info on how spellcasting is affected by those three stats.

Wow. I'm so glad I have not played V2 yet, it means there are a lot of content waiting for me when I do get time for it. :shredder:

Don't other classes like assassin get berserk?
The problem with the Berserking skill is that it can only be used by berserker class, and its not useful until you get it to 100. This means you have to end your class change path on berserker which limits your options and then pump all points into berserk to max it before you stop gaining levels. Only then does it start being useful. Furthermore berserking only increases damage, which doesn’t compete well vs lethal blow in grimoire since most or all enemies are vulnerable to lethal blow. There are some enemies in the final dungeon i believe where stacking mass damage can be useful, and berserkers and backstabbers shine a little more but thats it.

This is sort of an odd end in Grimoire.

Starting as a Berserker and pumping points into Berserking means low level characters as Berserkers can start to do awesome damage before you find better weapons. Unfortunately, once you have changed classes you may no longer have the Berserking special ability and can no longer go berserk. I knew it needed work but I ended up with Grimoire having some of these unpolished fringe skills that did not take class changing into account. It's not so much a bug as an unpolished feature. Class changing affects many different variables in a game as complex as Grimoire and this is one of the loose ends I let stay in there.

(In STONES OF ARNHEM which I am working on now, the Barbarian gets the Berserk ability permanently, even if class is changed the ability remains. (Have not even got to class changing yet but I know the new engine will work like this. Special abilities won't be lost at a class change.)

The Grimoire engine did not turn out perfectly. It's got little bugs and glitches and unless I get the time to finish up a V4 Ultra Fiasco edition it is going to remain as it is. Sometimes when playing it I often see things I'd like to improve but I am often proud when I see little features hardly anybody knows about working quite well.

One of the best last minute changes I ever made was to make the magic screen enable you to hit monsters with non-magical weapons.

Have you considered letting characters retain their berserk power after they multiclass out of the berseker class if they have enough points invested in the berserking skill? If the skill were only obtainable through the berserker class, this change would make the class a unique and valuable option for multiclassing. This also makes sense from a roleplaying perspective.

Is there a way to negate
Necroshroud's
H-, V-, M- effect? Is it supposed to weigh 22.5 lbs? Late game armor for warriors weigh less than that.

Is there a reason for making musical instruments non-rechargeable?

Music instruments have unlimited “charges“.
There are instruments like Coronet of Chaos or
Flute of Oblivion
that have limited charges and can't be recharged. Since extremely strong swords like
Vorpal Blade or Excalibur
can be recharged, it wouldn't be overpowered for these instruments to be rechargeable, unless there are reasons I'm overlooking.

Lady Error or mondblut or Dorateen, I could use a little nudge.

I've got a hankering to spend some of this gold I've been hauling around but I don't know which direction to go in for the next vendor up on the list. Obviously I don't want to go back to Crowl, I want actual upgrades.

The three choices of directions I have to go in are:

1. Try to get in to Waterport, but I'm assuming there are no vendors there?

2. Continue exploring in the Gideon area and on from there

3. Climb down the cliff into the next section of the game, the one that does 10d6 if you fall

Last one might suck because it's going to need a lot of climbing grinding to get back up.

Is there some other direction I missed or should go in? I want to easily come back and finish up in Crescent Valley, etc.
