Sleep with the Avian Helm at the Eyrie's Circle on the Northeast. You will be transported to a Barge.
Didn't work.
I don't know the exact requirements, but I had the helm equipped on my frontline character. The place is not required for progression per se, but it gives experience for discovering it and
excellent mage gear along with a magic bag

No spoilers please but a small nudge to the right direction. I am in the catacombs faced with a locked door, one riddle and an inscription on a lake about sorrow or something. I assume from my journal I should be here to find a way to open the seal and enter the black lich dungeon. I have the things in correct order or should be somewhere else first?

Door locks with letters and "?" checkboxes: to find the whole word
Do NOT click on the center of checkboxes - where you write "X" -, you could spring the trap!! Instead:
If you gently click on the narrow pixel edge of any "?" checkbox it might reveal its letter. You can then guess the whole word much easier and avoid setting off the deadly trap.

There is a ghost in a door asking for a reason you to be there, that inscription on a lake has the answer for it.

It worked now. It requires on char wearing the helm. Thanks.

Since my save games are apparently no longer compatible with future builds I am grudgingly going to re-roll. My first party was kind of gimped so I'm only half mad.

In light of this, can anyone tell me what the difference between novice and veteran is ? Mechanics wise or even just speculation is fine.

Keep in mind that I will not use NPCs at all or bards or any music instrument.

Yeah, each starting area has its advantages - except maybe Midnight Gardens. It's just like Briarwoods Shrine, except no owl, no Aquavia loot and no Rosy nearby.
Can anyone list all the advantages? I'm thinking of making a short Guide for the first few areas on Steam. Mondblut?

So far I've got:
"The Shrine" / Briarpatch Woods
  • Owl Statue --> Leading to Secret Area in Shrine of the Raptor
  • 9 Lore Entries (Thanatos, Gorgon, Scylla, Aurora, Arachne, Atropos, Megaera, Nemesis, Lachesis - Possibly Later Bosses?)
  • ID Owl Statue
  • Shrine that heals Disease and other negative Status Effects
"Sanctuary":
  • Xenomorph Keycard for Endgame weapon
  • 1000 Free XP (Bringing some characters to Lvl2)
  • Terminal that lets you train “Iron Fist”, “Accuracy”, “Firearms” on all characters to +12
  • Terminal that reveals the maps for Village of Crowl, Briarwood Forest, Gardens of Midknight
  • Statue to Identify items
  • Ranged Star Gauntlet Weapon with 99 Charges that is helpful in early tough fights
"Imprisoned" / Crowl Prison:
  • Moravia Key
  • 1 Hard Chest with 12 Items (Armor, Helmet, Random Weapons, Bow, Arrows)
  • 5 Easy Early Chests with 7 Items Each in The Armory (Arrows, Scrolls, Sword, Axe, Maces, War Axe, Lance...)
"Wilderness" / Gardens of Midknight:
  • Key of the Ancients
"Eerie Wastes":
  • Skull of Hathor Sogg

I wonder if I should keep playing on 1.2.0.1 or update and restart using all the knowledge I have now gained.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
So what are some of the essential phrases for talking to NPCs? I wanna know how to get quests.

Asking Rosie for "job" doesn't make her tell me if she has a job for me, but makes her tell me about her job.

"You" makes people tell you who they are.

"Why are you here" also makes them give you a short job description.

Obviously "rumors" makes them tell you about rumors.

Anything else?

A phrase that helps with NPCs that you suspect have quests for you is "Can we help you"

Fuck it, I'm starting over in 1.2.0.7. Too many wasted level ups on shitty spells and reading the description of the Sanctuary immediately pegs it as my new preferred starting location.

Why does my version still says 1.0 ? Where can I see the real version number?

Cleve hardcoded the version number that shows up in the game until whatever patch was after 1.2.0.1. 1.2.0.1 still shows it as 1.0 in game. If you've never uninstalled and reinstalled the game, it's likely that you have either 1.0 or 1.2.0.1 depending on when you bought the game. If you want to get adventurous and start updating the game now, BACKUP YOUR ENTIRE GRIMOIRE DIRECTORY FIRST.
