I'm trying, for the second time, to finish Dragonfall and it's painfully bad. I really don't know why this game is so highly rated. And I found Battletech very underwhelming, too. I think I'm done with this studio.

I enjoyed the fuck out of Battletech but I couldn't bring myself to do a second playthrough. Not even with all of the new dlc. I kind of understand this sentiment but I'm not ready to give up on them yet

Fuck'em.
They lost all their credit with the whole Battletech fiasco.

I put up with the mediocre Shadowrun games because the setting was awesome but Battle tech felt shallow, boring and that full sjw storyline was the last straw. I just wanted to join her uncle and fight her. I left the game unfinished and felt I didn't got my money's worth and this rarely happens with me. The only other instance I recall was with Dead State.

The battles were always the same. The fights I had on that Mechwarrior strategy game were so much better. Everything was better anyway.

Anyway who goes after HBS after all this faggitshit is a decline lover faggot.

Honk-Honk has very nice visuals and slightly more complicated plot. Still boring as fuck as all Shadowrun: Returns are.

I finished DMS and HK. I thought HK was ok.

It is. It is just very boring and repetitive (cyberlevels especially).

dms and hk suffered from giving too many skill points

The entire series suffered from ezmode nu-com combat and was completely braindead outside of it.
These guys should just focus on making visual novels with nice looking backgrounds (and get a fucking editor to cut all those NPCs giving you their life story)

God I cannot agree with this enough. The fucking NPCs are mind-numbingly boring

Playing on hardest difficulty with enemy AI un-nerfed was a good challenge. You use consumables, party members die, it's the right balance against the skill point bloat. I just wish that runners you hired could actually die, and that weapons/armor were less cut and dry in terms of one being better than another. Shadowrun with infinity-engine levels of itemization is :fabulously optimistic: but sure would have made for a more compelling experience.

People only tolerated these games due to the lack of cyberpunk games at the time and also because Shadowrun setting is awesome. In other words, the bar was low and we were starving. Also, HBS marketing is good (well, they had to be good at something). But now that the glitz faded and the sci-fi genre is full of competent games, no one is falling for this hoax anymore.

The shadowrun games were indeed rpglight in terms of mechanics but Dragonfall specially had very varied encounter design, they are basically the opposite of something like PoE, mechanics heavy but filled with trash mobs. While the mechanics and itemization dont get anywhere near the complexity of the tabletop (it is a shame, they didnt need to simplify things as extensively as they did), what is in there is enough to keep things interesting. They are the best RPGs around? No way (actually they dont get as bad as something like numanuma, that is already an achievement) but they are the best shadowrun RPGs.

The varied and interesting encounter design was enough for me and as a fan of the setting, they did a decent job. Was what I wanted? Nope but they were decent enough. I just don't know about HBS after Battletech after they hired that tranny and after 2016, they seem to had gone libcrazy as other libtards, so I'm expecting SJW inanity from them.

Genesis Shadowrun was great, especially for a console game, but let's not pretend 80% of the game didn't consist of doing the same escort/kill/fetch mission over an over again to grind for karma and money.

not in terms of npc purple prose, sadly.
...says the Disco fan.

Disco's texts are indeed suffer from political agenda (I admit, towards the end I've barely scrolled the "thoughts" about class struggle and such) but still it is not the purple prose, it is just overstuffed with content. Again, Disco is the FIRST game of Kurvitz. What about fucking Obsidian?

Disco texts suffer from a complete lack of flow and style, first and foremost. They're simply awkward. Compared to that Shadowrun's prose is a masterpiece.
And Kurvitz is supposed to be a published author. Not that it means much though.

And in HBS Shadowrun you spend 80% of your time reading bad fanfic.

I prefer the Genesis missions.

It was this but also not great given its terrible realtime combat and incredibly routine matrix (matrix gameplay has always been bad regardless of implementation).
