Any advice for soviet union in black ice at barbarossa?basically when the war starts i have zero org and my divisions route really quickly.
I did the same as in hoi3 black ice, creating a defence line behind the dneiper in order for events to fire to restore my org before the germans reach my lines but it seems this isnt the case in this game.

Bomb the infra back to the stone age so they dont get any org either and suffer attrition.

Of all of Paradox's modern games I've struggled getting into HoI4 the most (even though I started with HoI3). I think the new Spanish focus trees are going to finally pull me though. It still suffers from the same core issue that defines EU4-orientated Paradox, but there's so much of it you can forget for a bit.

Not to mentoion the whole spies and subterfuge element – although honestly, it seems weird that it took this long for this to get any meaningful amount of attention.

Shame the politics of average HoI4 player has them shouting about minor shit like the Al-Andalus tag, even though this is arguably one of the best updates the game has got. The culture wars get mirrored in people who want 'history' (except Hitler wins) and people who want to live out alt-histories.

How actually good is strategic bombing right now? Has anyone tried winning a war through it? Say, playing Britain and bombing Germany into submission?

The problem with telling how good anything in the game is that you really don't get any direct feedback.
All I know is that when you face an army, and hold them back with your own - and meanwhile you send bombers to turn their industry to ash - they will indeed start to reinforce (and re-organize) slower and slower after a while.

So it does work, yes, but "how good" is a question of how fast you expect that to happen...

I've done a few planes-only games. It works for sure, although Germany has such an absurd IC you can't shut them down entirely. Also as UK you'll have serious fuel problems if I remember correctly.

Just seen TommyKay who was playing as Spain. He was saying sentences like: "This is actually difficult." Or, "They send German volunteers, German volunteers are murdering me. German volunteers recovered organization in microsecond." Or, "Who needs guns?" Or "Who needs manpower?"

Collaboration seems mighty fine.

Should actually allow minors to be a lot more viable if you can get at least some noticeable manpower from conquered nations.
Until now, you basically got nothing from that except factories - and factories alone without manpower are kinda useless.

I can't help but laugh that within like minutes of it being launched, there were people whining on the official forums about the roughly 50:50 gender ratio for spies. Paradox's userbase is sooo damn predictable.

the historical sources for the dlc was ALO ALO,they even copied michele.

They should also copy, this day will not be any covert action because I need to visit hairdresser. And shooting matches between them and other factions.

Sadly my first try at Anarchist Spain hit a dead end when I realized that two of the manpower upgrades to the national spirits didn't kick in (also didn't get cores on Portugal, but that I figured I could live with).

So how's Compliance work? Just a waiting game, or is there something more that can be done to get it up faster?

EDIT: While I was a bit disappointed the anarchist spy agency couldn't have some sort of lulz to it, it seems Pdox is continuing their little Senor Hilter funny funs that can happen after Hitler's ousted, this time with spy recruitment:

Word is that it's a tiny tiny chance to happen when either recruiting spies as Germany or spies of German nationality for Achim or Andrea Hund (both?) to show up.

First impressions - the most pointless DLC so far. Spying adds colossal amount of busywork for little gain, while the new focus trees are so bloated and convoluted it's laughable.

I'm seeing mentions of "Carlist Spain". Did they do the same thing they did with the American Civil War and just lift some "Alternative history" from Kaissereich that makes sense in the mod time line but is absolutely idiotic and nonsensical shit in the historical context of the vanilla game?

Ah why the fuck am I asking questions I already know the answer to? This is Paradox we're talking about.

Carlism was a fairly big deal in the Spanish far-right circles since 19th century up until the civil war and Franco era when they were subsumed. Overall the Spanish focus alternatives are pretty in line with historical possibilities and events.

No it really wasn't. Carlism was basically over by 1840, all that remained were a couple of rich old geezers not even the catholic church took completely seriously.

The idea of carlists having any kind of political or military infrastructure in 1936 is completely ridiculous, they were a shambling zombie of a bygone era, and their "pretender" was an almost 90 year old mummy that didn't even have a heir and everybody treated like you treat someone with alzheimer's.

I'm afraid you're the one looking silly here. Not Paradox. Carlism was at least as important as falangism, and you'd know that if you even made a minimum effort of research. Not to mention their long history before the war.

For a long time I had no idea why so many HoI4 'fans' complained about the ~dreaded alt history~ options when you can literally force the UI to take historical focuses and only pick the historical pathways yourselves. But it turns out it's because the people who like to complain about this shit just don't know anything about history so they whine when it goes against their pop-historical 'understanding'. The fact you even rated Vaarna_Aarne disagree is just laughable after that post of yours tbh.

I truly have no time to discuss this, so suffice it to say, carlism attached itself to the National uprising the same way it attached itself to Catalan an Basque nationalisms, to cantonalism, to federalism, and in the middle of the XX century, to socialism (¡!), and basically to any political movement they found that didn't immediately tell them to sod off in a desperate attempt to keep themselves relevant, in which, I admit, they succeeded, albeit always in a completely secondary role that allowed them no real power whatsoever. They got cucked out of the spanish throne because they were just that risible, and Franco ended up giving it to the son of a man he completely despised, and who hated him, because the carlists where no alternative at all, and they had never been.

As for the research I've done about it, let's just say that carlism's "long history before the war" is what my PhD was about, and that I am a historian that specializes in Spanish counter revolution and its international relations with other far right european movements in the XIX century.

I realize that anybody can say that on the internet, and I may as well be some basement dwelling Quasimodo that has never seen the light of day, much less know what carlism is or was. I really have no interest on proving myself to you, and you are free to believe whatever you like. Of course if your main source of research is the Wikipedia, you'll excuse me if I'm not particularly impressed. But you laugh all you want.

Good day to you sir.

I wasn't using Wikipedia as a source, so much as that from wording of your original post, you came across as though you barely know who the Carlists were. My point was 'could you not have at least looked at the first obvious Wikipedia page before posting this?', I'm not saying it's a good source, very far from it. At the time I posted, your reply to Vaarna hadn't come through, just the rating.

I've absolutely no reason to dispute or doubt your PhD, even if I don't think the idea of the Carlists becoming a primary focus was an impossibility (or at least nowhere near enough for Paradox's purpose) — civil wars always being a clusterfuck and their outcome being no obvious thing, especially with Franco's ... odd position at the outbreak. You obviously know your shit.

I apologise entirely for a complete bitch. I'm just tired of the inane things Paradox's fanbase comes out with, and the ~historical realism~ crowd is often indistinguishable from the Deus Vult crowd who make it such a horrendous place to be. In your initial brevity, you superficially came across as similar. But I was being an ass and I mean that only as an explanation, not an excuse. Sorry.

I for my part, apologize for getting way too abrasive.

I just get frustrated by the, in my opinion, completely lackluster DLCs Paradox releases, which are I think very lazy an uninspired. They already did this with Man The Guns, and now they seem to do exactly the same with La Résistance: they add a new, small, not that well designed in most cases, mechanic to the game, and then they glue to it a couple of new focus trees and some alternative history to justify asking 20€ for it. For that price, the least they could do with the alternative history is to sit down and think about what they are going to do about it, instead of looking at a popular mod and basically copying the idea: The second ACW for Man The Guns, and now the Spanish situation, again basically copied from Kaiserreich.

Kaiserreich deals with the ridiculousness by completely dispensing with the original context: There's a new timeline going all the way back to World War I, so they can come up with things like Carlism being the only refuge for the right wingers discontent with the Spanish monarchy, since fascism is not as popular in Europe as it was in real life, but that is clearly not the situation in 1936 and Vanilla HOI IV. Or a bloke that believes himself the second Gengis Khan.

I admit I haven't got the faintest idea if Paradox actually try to explain how this could happen, how Carlism could present a serious alternative to both liberal democracy and fascism in 1936, seeing its steady decline for all the XX century, but knowing Paradox, they probably don't, they just put the button there, and collect the 20€. They don't even try to hide it any more.

Let's see how long it takes them to add the Mongol Empire as alternative history to the vanilla game.
